  • So today was a shorter 3 mile run. I'm ramping down the training as my half is in less than 2 weeks. I had cross train Monday, and rest Tuesday. Tomorrow is more cross training and then a shorter 5 mile run on Saturday. My half marathon plans changed because the Savannah Rock 'n' Roll sold out so I got moved up from…
  • My husband is also Navy.
  • We learned in our complimentary medicine class that actual flax seed is better than the oil. There is a lignan fiber in the flax seed that isn't present in the oil that has most of the cardiovascular benefits.
  • This week was awesome. I'm getting a better feel for how heavy I need to go on the weights now that I've done a week of it. This was week two. I think I'll have all the kinks worked out by next week. I ran for my cardio but did do the ab burner video. I'm not sure it's hard enough for me. I really want a challenge. My abs…
  • So I think I'm going to jump into your group. Today I did my long run, 11 miles. It was awesome! I've had a couple bad long runs recently and was feeling like quitting. My last two have been fabulous and I'm really looking forward to my first half on October 1st. I had planned on running the Rock n Roll Half on Novemeber…
  • I'm running my first half on October 1st. My longest run so far has been 10 miles, last week. I have 11 planned for this week. After that I'm not sure. Should I go for 12 the weekend before the half or should I taper and take it easy? Also, I was thinking of doing another half on Thanksgiving. How should I train in between…
  • I just found several that are actually closer to me than the one I was looking at. There's one October 1st and one on Thanksgiving Day. Three weeks is really close. I won't be able to run a full half distance AND taper down. What to do?
  • Oh no! I think I'm going to cry. I just went to register for the race, and it's sold out!
  • Do you guys think I should just stick to a couple of 13 mile runs, or should I keep pushing my long runs to longer than that? I still have almost a month and a half, as I started training really early.
  • My race isn't until November 5th, so I'll be up to a full half marathon training run by then (actually I'll get a couple in). I'm super excited!
  • So I completed my first week of CLX. I'm loving it so far. I've never lifted heavy and I'm really excited to start seeing some muscle! I bought the Select Tech weights and they're awesome! Sometimes it takes me a little longer to get everything dialed in though, so I've been missing the first rep. Also, I feel like I'm…
  • I started CLX this week. I've done Burn Circuits 1 and 2. I was really disappointed with the beginning measurements. I used the calipers and got a low body fat percentage, so I checked it with the Navy method where you plug your measurements into a formula and got something more realistic. I just got so excited to see such…
  • I use imapmyrun. It seems to be fairly consistent, but my same run varies from about 4.15-4.3, so I don't get the exact same reading every time, but close. I really like it, it also has a website you can sign into to see all your runs. You should check it out.
  • That's a pretty good burn! i can't wait to start!
  • Once your blood glucose gets low enough from using all of your carbohydrates from food, your liver starts breaking down glycogen to release glucose or even starts making glucose from other substrates. As long as that energy source is around your blood sugar won't get very low unless you're injecting insulin or taking other…
  • I'm in pharmacy school and our asthma instructor said that for a majority of people, 2 puffs of albuterol before you exercise should prevent an attack. If this isn't working there are several other longer acting medications that can help prevent an attack (Singulair like another person mentioned, but taking a long acting…
  • Does everyone have a HRM to get the calories burned? I don't have one and have heard that they're not good for strength training anyways. I was just going to log it as strength training or circuit training, depending on how my exertion level seemed. Does anyone else use MFP to estimate calories? What do you log it as?
  • I'm starting on the 5th of September. I have my videos, but I just finished up finals at school and now I'm moving. But I should be all settled in and ready to start in 2 weeks. I'm really glad I found this. I also found the other thread, but didn't get an answer to my question. Are you doing the meal plan with it? I was…
  • So I have a question for those of you in maintenance mode. What are your typical carbs per day that keep you at your weight? I'm considering looking into Atkins, but I'm trying to figure out if it's something I could do long term. If the carbs are reasonable then I think I could do it. I think it would be hard to give up…
  • Did you follow her calorie recommendations and use the meal plans?
  • I'm going to start in about a week or so. I have the videos, I just want to order some new weights. All I have are 6 and 10. What weights are you using? What are you goals? There's another thread on this of people doing it, you should search for it in the forums.
  • Headache is actually a sign of hyponatremia (low sodium). If you're drinking too much water you are diluting out the sodium in your blood and that may be causing these symptoms. You may want to check with a doctor about this. I'm not saying this is definitely it, but it's a possibility.
  • That was hilarious! You made my day.
  • I am also a pharmacy student and I took a look in our pharmacy resources at whether birth control pills can cause weight gain. It listed "weight changes" under the category "considered to be drug related". Sounds like the association was weak, but there. We learned that the birth control patch and the depo-provera shot are…
  • Silk and Almond Breeze actually have calcium added and have 50% more calcium than milk.
  • This is totally off topic but the thing about starving people in Africa having big bellies is incorrect. I'm studying pharmacy and we learned about this while studying parenteral nutrition. It's called Kwashiorkor malnutrition. It results from an inadequate protein intake. The liver can no longer produce albumin so the…
  • Yes, calcium carbonate absorbs best with food. You can take calcium citrate without regards to meals.
  • I think you may be mixed up about this. Your BMR is how many calories you burn in a day doing nothing, just doing basic bodily processes. Your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is what you need to be eating less than, not your BMR. Your TDEE is how many calories you actually burn in a day doing the normal things you do…
  • You should check out his bio on his page. He's actually legit.
  • I've been looking into this program. I've been doing Jillian Michaels videos and I'm ready to move on to something more difficult. Is there any cardio involved? How long are the workouts?
