  • I like seafood. I love fish. We have seafood at least 4 times a week. And you are absolutely right about sardines. I like sauteing them in garlic, onions and tomatoes. For spanish sardines, I just simply serve it along with shavings of manchego cheese drizzled with olive oil and bread slices. I craved exclusively for…
  • I always eat late at night. I workout at around 930~10pm so I've starving after a rigorous workout. I do what cmriverside does. I plan for the snacks beforehand. For tonight, I will have 4 oz. of nonfat plain greek yogurt mixed with trail mix. Last night, I had yogurt, 1 sheet of graham crackers and 2 squares of Lindt…
  • Great ideas from everyone! Like some folks here, I eat it with veggies or spread 'em on a flatbread. I also throw a couple of pieces in my backpack for when I get the late afternoon hunger during the commute from work to home. I brought 2 pieces from home today and I may eat it with the fuji apple later as a 2pm snack.…
  • BMI is body mass index which measures the ideal weight based on the height of the individual. It is a good measure of one's ideal weight for most people but may be an inaccurate measure for people who have more muscle mass. To calculate: (weight in pounds) x 703 / (height x height) = BMI For example, your numbers show a…
  • Sushi, the purist sushi, is really not bad for you. The nigiri kind (raw fish on mound of rice) is meager in calories compared to rolls. Tuna nigiri is about 60 calories/ 2 pieces, salmon nigiri is about 68 calories/ 2 pieces. Or if you want to be more adventurous, you can get sashimi and a side of 1 bowl of brown rice. A…
  • You look awesome. Congratulations on your milestone!
  • I'm sorry to hear about your back. Have you tried water aerobics or lap swimming?
  • I'm in! It's getting harder for me because I'm well within Normal BMI. Currently, 114 lbs. and hopefully 109 lbs. by end of February or sooner.
  • I think you'll love Trader Joe's. Besides fresh produce, I always stock up on these: TJ's brand hummus (lower cals than Athenos) 100% whole wheat flatbread Spinach lentil dip their lines of simmer sauces like masala sauces they always stock up on their greek yogurt section (their own brand and other brands) ready made…
  • I have these on standby in my fridge and/or freezer: Orowheat Sandwich Thins - 100 calories / piece Flatout Light Spinach Flatbread - 90 calories/piece Trader Joe's 100% whole wheat flatbread - 130 calories / piece
  • www.weightmirror.com is one site.
  • I second that. I would like to recommend black soy beans as well. Low carb, high protein. I always have a few cans in the pantry. Here's a link to a brand I use. http://www.amazon.com/Eden-Organic-Black-Beans-15-Ounce/dp/B000GZS9Q6
  • I have Fage NF yogurt every night. I use it as a side dip for Medierranean dishes. I sometimes eat it with lowfat honey grahams and dark chocolate to replace marshmallow. It's my own little s'mores. And I've used it to replace whip cream and mayo. More often though, I just have it plain with some cut-up fresh fruits.
  • I posted this link in a similar topic thread: http://espn.go.com/trainingroom/s/1999/1112/166818.html
  • You need to eat before and after workout - an hour before and within an hour after. Good question, btw. Here's a good article on the subject. http://espn.go.com/trainingroom/s/1999/1112/166818.html

  • I go there often for lunch. Today, I had their You Pick 2: Thai Chicken Salad (200 cals) and Black Bean soup (110 cals). 310 calories for lunch. Yuuuummmmy!
  • I have to second this post. I have an easier time allocating the rest of the calories if I have breakfast of 300 calories or less. The most common combination for me is a tall NF latte (100 cal), banana (100-120 cals depending on size) or a NF plain yogurt or NF plain cottage cheese. On rare events that I have a bagel or…
  • 4'11". Normal BMI but trying to lose more for a mini-triathlon in July. :glasses:
  • LJS has some good choices such as grilled salmon and tilapia. Like lilchino4af mentioned, their Freshside Grille Smart Choice Salmon is only 280 calories, tilapia at 250 and shrimp scampi at 330 cals. (according to the website's nutrition pdf). I think every relationship should be a give and take. So next time, maybe…
  • Fage nonfat plain yogurt with trail mix or fresh fruits. Dark chocolate covered almonds. Sometimes, though, I crave the Haagen Dazs coffee. So I keep single serving cups of those in the freezer and I make sure to work it out the following day. Those single serving cups are 260 cals. each.
  • Congratulations on restarting your weight loss program. Here's something that I do, it's a little anal but it works for me. Maybe it will work for you. I log my food for the next day or so. I am not beholden to the numbers but if I log that I will only have a turkey sandwich and an apple for lunch then I somehow make that…
  • I hear ya. I think my best dieting tool is my husband. He babysits our son while I go to the gym. He encourages more leafy greens. He only purchases dark chocolate treats and is also an avid nutrition info reader. Gotta love 'em.
  • Congratulations on your success. You clearly know what works for you and what will work again. But I think this time, you have the right to have fun with your achievement. How about going for an activity goal this time? Say, train for a half-marathon or a mini-triathlon? How about signing up for an advanced swim class? You…
  • I have not seen Siggi's in Trader Joe's. I'll check out Whole Foods this weekend. Thanks for the tip!
  • Love the Greek-style/strained yogurt. Like someone else posted, it has a different consistency of traditional yogurts. It's so thick that if you get a spoonful and flip the spoon upside down, the glob won't fall off. This is a different consistency than American or Australian-style where it's more fluid. The nonfat plain…
  • Ooh, good post. I put nuts and fruits in Greek nonfat yogurt. Alone, it's a little "uninspiring". I also like to use hummus as veggie dip. For quick meals at night, I put chicken breast with Trader Joe's masala sauce and put about 2 cups of frozen edamame to give the meal texture and added nutrients, not to mention the…
  • How about leafy greens as part of salad? fish fillets canned tuna eggbeaters - great for low carb, high protein goto food bananas whole wheat bread quinoa fat free salad dressings nonfat plain yogurt (recommending Greek-strained style)
  • Baked salmon, mixed greens with hearts of palm, tomato, feta cheese, flax seed and shredded carrots. Greek nonfat yogurt with 1 sheet of honey grahams for snacks later in the night.
  • I can't function without my requisite morning nonfat lattes. Dark chocolate is also a good one. I also refuse to give up rice. I haven't really given up on any food. I just cut back on the portions, ever mindful that once in awhile is acceptable but too often will destroy everything I've worked hard for thus far.
