I used to jump rope in my apartment. A jump rope is about $3 and it's some great cardio. Add that to a little yoga and some push-ups, and you've got yourself a workout.

Sweeet. My friend got his for this weekend, but his Grandma is turning 100 and he has to go to Indiana. I've never seen him so upset. lol!

You look wonderful!!! What have you been doing mostly?

Anyone who thinks it's easy hasn't seen the side effects. I don't believe it's a long term solution, personally, considering the nutritional deficiencies a lot of these people face afterward. It is a tool. It can be a lifesaving surgery for some. But if you can go it without, it's best for you long-term.

It might be a good idea to start him off slower - Set MyFitnessPal to .5 lbs loss per week. That'll give him a more realistic cushion rather than setting up to fail. My favorite healthy snacks are carrots, nuts, apples, etc. 100 calorie packs are a great idea for someone who isn't used to exercising self restraint…

Those who only diet and do not exercise have difficulty shrinking their waists despite losing weight elsewhere. This is because once you've built a store of fat cells, they don't just go away - only shrink. You have to exercise to slim your body too. http://calorielab.com/news/2006/08/17/fat-cells-never-say-die/

^ Sure! I hadn't heard the Dr. Oz one. Most of what I've read has stated that morbidly obese people don't really fall under most BMI calculators because they can stand to live on fewer calories (and can healthily lose weight faster than just 1lb per week). Not sure how accurate that is, but I figured that's why MFP does…

It all sounds good except for calculating calories.. I haven't heard that one, and it definitely gives large people too many calories and small people too few. Why not just link to a calorie calculator?

Nothing to add than the chime of TONS of H20, but for those recommending painkillers before bed? You're still drunk at that point, and alcohol + painkillers = stomach bleeding. I know because I did it to myself. It was one of the worst memories of my life. I try to drink at least 3 glasses of water before I nod off when…

LOVE IT!! :) Congrats!

Those days are in the past, it's best not to try to yo-yo your body and mess with your metabolism - you should always net at least 1200.

This is my favorite motto for nutrition, by Michael Pollan. Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/28/magazine/28nutritionism.t.html

Upset stomach can be caused by sooo many things. It's best to see a doctor to discuss your diet. You could be gluten intolerant, allergic to something new, stressed out, eating too much of a good thing (some veggies give me upset stomach when I overdo it), could be ulcers, stomach inflammation, infection, hell, the list…

Congrats!!! What a great story. Isn't health amazing?? :)

Nuts. Preferably unsalted but no one is perfect. If you're not banning eggs those are very high protein and nutritious too!

The biggest piece of advice I have is to learn to cook BEFORE you get hungry. I think the downfall of many students is that they start to cook when they're already starving, which limits you to processed options in most cases. A nice solution to this is to make BIG batches of homemade things so you can have healthy…

Now THAT is a success story!!!!

1 pound a week is what doctors recommend.

YES!!!

I read a study that women on birth control prefer skinnier, paler men while women off birth control prefer muscular heathens. Over time, of course. It's been true for me!

Holy cow, that was fast! You are amazing!!! :D

My preference: - Water - Rice - Butter Lol. I LOVE plain rice.

If I had to decide... ONE thing... JUST ONE... My favorite Thai dish from Sri Thai - Pad Woon Sen. Or maybe some pulled pork sandwiches. Runners Up: - Chicken Alfredo - Bottle o Pinot Noir - Gnocchi Carbonara - Pot Roast - Thanksgiving Dinner - Enchiladas - Crab Legs - Honey ham with homemade mac n cheese - Garlic mashed…

Trail mix! Granola! Few things better.

Too much of anything is bad. Don't discourage yourself from making healthy choices.

Anyone on a calorie restricted diet normally can't meet their daily vitamin needs without supplementation. You need 2000 calories to meet RDAs.

Not exactly, but an addictive substance is an addictive substance. My mom took YEARS weaning herself off of caffeine in soda, unable to take even mild withdrawals.

Pre-Natal vitamins have some of the vitamins you need for healthy hair/skin, but you can also just take a regular multivitamin. GNC also makes a specific hair/nails formula. Hair loss happens when you are low on a HUGE number of vitamins, and also when you are high on some. Yup. So it's hard to tell which ones, but any…
