Super rude.

Truth. Building muscle is HARD.
-
jzammetti nailed it. The most immediate down side of sever calorie restriction is that your body will selectively hold onto fat tissue, and will instead burn muscle tissue to make up for the difference between caloric intake and the requirements of your organs and regular body functions. So while the *weight* will come off…

For me it's like a science project. I weigh in every morning, and have a spreadsheet where I track my rolling monthly and weekly weight. There can be major day to day shifts, but the monthly weight is the important one for me. It's also been interesting over the last couple years to see what causes me to retain water, and…

The best change you could make is to move toward loving yourself. Cheesy sounding, but true. It was the biggest epiphany I've had. You have to stop the cycle of self hate, because how can you be expected to care for something that you don't like? At the end of the day health is about looking in that mirror and seeing the…

Like others have said, 2 pounds per week is too much for as little as you have to lose. The last 10 pounds are extremely difficult to lose, and take a lot of time and tweaking to get you body to let them go. When you are down to those last 10 the name of the game is body composition. The scale doesn't matter, it's all…
-
I've been stuck on the last 10 for about 6 months. It's so difficult to eat at a level where you are preserving your lean muscle, while still creating a deficit to encourage your body to use those last few fat pounds.
-
The last 10 have been the worst >.<. I lost the first 45-50 in about 14-ish months. Have been hovering in the last 10 zone for about 6 months. Will get there eventually. Make sure you are tracking inches too.
-
I weigh and log everyday, but I have a spread sheet on the side where I track rolling monthly average. That's the only number I really care about.
-
Seriously? It's not about making your body into something that someone else defines for you. It's about taking care of your self and making your body as healthy and strong as it can be FOR YOU.
-
I'm 5'10", 170, size 12.

Congratulations!

Just to clarify regarding anorexia, it does involve eating, but typically at large calorie deficits, with very strictly enforced rules about food, and a deep fear of certain foods. It's also ok to type the word out :). If you enjoy being that active, you need to adjust your caloric intake to meet your body's needs. Go for…

I've been stuck with 5 to go for about 6 months also. I started logging my food again, and I think that I've been more off with my eating than I thought I was. The last 10-20 are the most difficult. I would suggest you start logging again. Set your weekly calorie deficit to ~0.5 lb/week. Focus on strength training and…

I've spent the past year and a half working on getting healthy. The majority of that time has been devoted to improving my metabolism. Is 55 pounds in 18 months slow? Yeah, but I'm at the point where I'm comfortably eating ~1,800-2,000 cal/day. That's the range I want to be in for the rest of my life -> living the…

Sounds like you are kicking some butt when it comes to your cardio conditioning. You are getting into that grey area where it's less about losing *weight* and more about losing *fat*. I'll preface this by saying I'm not a professional, so take my advice with a grain of salt :). I would recommend doping a couple of your…

Depends on how much you have to lose. It took me about a year to lose 50 pounds. The closer you get to your goal weight, the slower things go.
-
You are totally right. I was confusing the lymphatic system with the endocrine system.
-
Ditto. The lymphatic system is super complicated, so I will admit that I do find it hard to understand how surficial exposure to infra red radiation would trigger the hormones required to make adipose tissue release fatty acids into the body for energy use.
-
Everything you need to know about adipose tissue is in that link (which is a fascinating read, yay science). I'm sorry that you are getting so much negative feedback, but at the end of the day infra red radiation doesn't cause fat cells to release their stores back into the blood stream. Hormones trigger adipose tissue to…

4 to go, and I swear they are being more difficult than the 54 previous ones. Best of luck to all you other <10-ers!

If you haven't seen this, I highly recommend checking out this blog: http://nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero/ My best suggestions for you would be to eat a good clean diet, with as little processed food as possible. Maintain a healthy level of calories, don't cut too low (1.2 x…

I've been pretty satisfied with losing a little over 50 pounds in a year. It's slow, but I know it's not coming back, and I know that I haven't hurt my organs, metabolism, or lean muscle mass. Also being able to eat 1,700 cal/day makes me happy.

Stay away from machines and go for free weights :).

PSA: Nutritionists =/= Dietitians At least in the US, nutritionists are not subject to any type of licensing or professional regulation. Just because someone bills themselves as a nutritionist doesn't mean that they actually know what they are talking about. Case in point. Dietitians tend to be either clinical researchers,…

There are no secrets. Love your body and take care of it. It's not a secret, but the biggest stumbling block I have seen is that people want the quick fix. When they don't look like a super model after a week they give up. Fads will screw you over every time. Eat less, eat real food, move your body, pick up heavy objects,…

When you start exercising, you cause small tears in your muscles. They heal, and that whole process is how you get stronger. During the healing process your muscles store water and glycogen. That's typically where the weight increase is from when someone starts a new exercise program. As mentioned, there is almost no way…

Seriously? What you eat each day should meet your macro and micro nutrient goals, and a conservative calorie goal. Getting all your fiber one day, all your calcium the next and so on is crazy. Trying to lose weight fast is a good way to get sick, and have saggy skin. If you want to kick off eating better, try making one…
