  • Calories in, calories out or CICO just means take in less calories than you put out. Basically, eat less and burn more. It doesn't have to involve a fast or a schedule or restricting much of anything. The scale will still move.
  • I think you're making things too hard on yourself. Have you tried calories in/calories out? Why the IF route? From your diary, I can't determine if it's an issue with inconsistent logging or it's a fasting period. Be good to yourself.
  • I try to find something suitable that I can fit into my calories at a handful of fast-food places because it's just life sometimes. At McDonald's, I usually opt for a fish or mcchicken sandwich with two packs of apple slices and a small diet coke. Their oatmeal is also a decent option, and it's served all day. Everything…
  • [quote You can have the bike on your head while riding a unicycle and milking a yak .... it doesn't change the fact that your logged burns are ridiculously exaggerated. 10-12 calories per minute is high, 55+ per minute is ludicrous. [/quote] I love you.

  • What's the rush? The time will pass anyway; do it correctly, not just quickly. Be good to yourself.

  • Similar stats here. 5'8", 159 pounds. I wear a 10 comfortably, but have a few size 8s that fit alright too. My hips are the biggest part of me.

  • 1. There is no way you're burning calories at that rate, with 15 minutes of exercise. I have to run (hard) for 100 minutes to burn anywhere near 1,000 calories. If it's something I could hop on a Gazelle to accomplish in 15 minutes instead, trust me: I'd do it. A heart rate monitor is not perfect, but it will be more…
  • This is the mentality that I wish I had, years ago. I think so many times, people beat themselves up when they slip, and they just consider the whole day a loss. Then it snowballs when you don't get back on the horse the next day or the next. If your car gets a flat tire, you get it repaired and move on. You don't slash…
  • I ask out of concern for your well being: Is there a reason you want to lose weight? 154 is very lean for a male of your height. Be good to yourself, sweetie.
  • 1. Dark chocolate almonds + craisins + green tea with a dab of honey 2. Greek yogurt and a piece of fruit 3. Honey-roasted peanuts and a can of V8 4. Hard-boiled eggs 5. A Keurig pod like chai or hot chocolate or apple cider + a banana
  • I tried it once, and it was delish! I used one banana, one egg, and a little PB2. It made three mini pancakes. I'd definitely make it again.
  • If you are legitimately eating only 1,200 calories per day, you should be losing some weight. I would guess that you're not accurately eating 1,200, but either underestimating your food intake or overestimating your exercise burns or a combination of both. This may not be intentional on your part; we're all guilty of…
  • This was the eye opener I needed to see. I got a food scale that day then. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVjWPclrWVY

  • Hi there- If it hasn't been made clear enough, I strongly encourage a food scale. You mention you are measuring or portioning. I'm not sure if this means measuring cups/spoons or if you are actually using a food scale. I was firmly in the camp of not getting all the hype about food scales until I saw this. I found a cheap,…
  • I'm in! I've lost about 25 and am trying to lose another 10-15. And I'm a girl! I log regularly, and my diary is open ;)
  • Simply logging alone doesn't equate to losing weight. How accurately are you logging? Are you eyeballing portions and using measuring cups, but not a food scale? Are you eating back your calories from breastfeeding? If you're truly at 1,200 calories, you'll lose. Heck, I'd argue that you can eat more than 1,200 calories…
  • It's science, sweetie. Figure out how many calories you can eat comfortably while still losing weight. Then weigh your foods and accurately plug everything into your food diary and stick to your goal each day. It's sounds like you're off to a good start; just get a good handle on it so you're in control. Good luck!

  • Hi there. Nobody can spell out a plan that will work for you except you. My advice is that you don't have to say no to foods you enjoy, but just try to fit them into your day. Carbs at dinner time, for example, might be fine. And you can have more than a protein shake for lunch each day. I want to be able to enjoy things…
  • Hi sweetie. Working out daily won't guarantee weight loss if your diet isn't in order. The majority of weight is lost in the kitchen. Kudos to adding all the physical activity, and I bet you feel much better for it. My advice is to lock down your food as well. Good luck!
  • Jenn, I know it sounds silly to have to weigh your foods. I wasn't a believer until I watched this. I got a decent food scale from Amazon, and it has been an eye opener. The baked sweet potato I eat a couple times a week is closer to 200 grams than 100. Chicken, fish, ground beef, etc. that I used to eyeball was all off. A…
  • Yep, that's it. Food is not the enemy! Add me as a friend if you want. My food diary is open and honest.
  • I eat about six times per day and drink plenty of water. I have conditioned myself to not eating to the point of being stuffed because I know that I get a snack again in a couple hours. My diary is open and honest if you need ideas.
  • I never got all the food-scale hype until I saw it explained. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVjWPclrWVY
  • No, not really. The last time I saw my regular doctor, she did a physical. Everything checked out well: blood pressure, cholesterol, all that jazz. I was aware I could lose a little weight, and it took me bringing it up. She was kind and said sure, I could lose 15 pounds, but I am overall in great health. I have since lost…
  • I think it's okay to eat after dinner. Some have a mindset that you shouldn't eat after a certain time, but I've been able to have a light snack at night while still losing weight consistently. If you are legitimately hungry and not just eating out of boredom, I think it's fine to eat something. Just leave a little room in…
  • Oh my goodness- I wrote a-n-a-l innocently above! I'm not swearing or using it inappropriately. My apologies to any sensitive MFPers ;)
  • I find that everyone in the muggle world thinks it's anal or odd or obsessive. Everyone here thinks it's perfectly healthy and normal. Keeping your body in optimal condition and knowing what you put into it each day is NOT odd. However, I've learned to not share this too freely with others. Let her do her, and you keep…
  • I wouldn't label it good or bad, as food is food, and most of it is all okay in moderation. I have a smoothie a couple times a week. It's an easy breakfast on mornings where I'm in a rush, and I prepare ziplock bags on Sunday night to ease the process. I find it's a good way to get in some foods I might not normally eat,…
  • I have learned to just take the emotion out of it and leave it to the numbers. Calories in, calories out. As long as I'm creating a deficit, I lose. People want a miracle pill or a quick fix, but it just comes down to those basics, for me. There are days when my heart isn't in it, where I have no motivation or passion, but…
  • My diary is open and honest, and I eat 1,600. I'm in Wisconsin :)
