  • Again, I'm giving my opinion on what worked FOR ME. If you don't agree, hey that's super. I don't really care. Instead of focusing on me, why not help out the OP?
  • Because you know my body better then I do? I'm sure the 77 pounds I lost, without your input, were also coincidence.
  • This is so weird, because I am also 39, a female, 5'11", 203, with a goal of 180. I started at 281. Anyway, if I am working out really consistently and pushing myself, my weight loss come to a standstill. However, my measurements will change. I would suggest taking measurements of your waist, chest, hips, even calves and…
  • Just plan for it. I know I'm going to crave chocolate so I'll get a small amount of some really nice chocolate so it feels like a super indulgence. I also crave salty so I'll have some popcorn or chips. But just plan for it and it doesn't have to derail you.
  • I have big upper arms and I'm 5'11". My twin cousins are 5'3" and both have big upper arms. It's genes.
  • My BP has always been on the low side. Mineral water helps me sometimes, because of the high sodium content. But just staying hydrated in general helps. It's really important to recognize the signs of fainting also, so that you don't hurt yourself (not that I would know that from experience, or anything).
  • #7- (eating late at night)- I have to share this. My mom always was on a diet as I was growing up. So I have always had these awful 80's diet rules in my brain and no eating after 7 PM was a HUGE one. Also, most of my adult life I've been a terrible sleeper. I'd wake up between 3-4 AM about 5-6 days out of the week. Well,…
  • The gardening gloves are cracking me up. When I read big rubber bands, I imagined one of these things...
  • LOVE the polka dot dress! So cute (for a dude*)!!! *I am totally kidding. You're adorable.
  • Bodybuilding.com has a ton of different ab workouts. I've recently added goblet squats and really feel them in my core. http://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/finder/lookup/filter/muscle/id/13/muscle/abdominals
  • Yes, definitely have her checked for food allergies/intolerances/etc. 2ish years ago I found out I had celiac disease and I most likely have had it my entire life. When I eliminated gluten from my diet, I couldn't believe how much my stomach area went down. I was bloated constantly, but I didn't realize it because I had…
  • Yes, that's the one! Hilarious and really inspirational.
  • Does anyone remember the thread talking about all the "manly women" posters who lift weights? It was all tongue in cheek and HILARIOUS! If I find it, I'll post the link.
  • LMAO @ "pie shape"! You'll be surprised at how quickly you outgrow those 3 & 5 pound weights- even at 61.
  • When someone makes broad, sweeping generalizations about what is normal/not normal and what is attractive/not attractive and then takes it step further to insulting, they should not be surprised when people feel the need to defend themselves. She was getting really helpful advice until she started with that nonsense.
  • So she can voice her opinion that muscular women are unattractive, men who find them attractive are not "normal" and that lifting 5 pound dumb bells is going to make her shoulders massive, but we cannot tell her our opinion of her opinion? Got it.
  • Yeah, well, I'm 5'11", hourglassy, broad shouldered and didn't realize I was married to an abnormal freak or completely unattractive. But then again, I studied art and design in college.
  • I don't know what you have been reading, but it's a load of crap. The only way you're going to get broad shoulders is if you are genetically programed to have broad shoulders and then you'd probably have them since birth. Same thing with body shape, you can't really become an hourglass if you are straight up and down or…
  • I'm 5'11" and started at 281. I've been fluctuating between 207-210 since the fall. I started at a tight 22 (like another poster, I refused to move up a size) and now wear anywhere from a 12 to a 16 depending on the brand and a L or XL shirt, again depending on the brand. Using the weights has been awesome for my body…
  • Awesome article! Thanks for posting and resurrecting.
  • Umm....I don't think he means the tacos you are thinking of.
  • There was a guy at my gym who would screen talk to football games while on the treadmill. I'm jogging along and all of a sudden he shouts at the top of his lungs, "FUMBLE! FUMBLE!" I just about shot in to the wall behind me because he scared the crap out of me! It got to where if he was on the treadmill, I'd switch to the…
  • Fat is fat and muscle is muscle. Unless you are taking a class at Hogwarts, one can't magically become the other. 1000-1200 calories per day is way too low. I can't imagine staying at that level long term. For me, if I am not eating enough protein, I don't lose very well. I also don't lose a ton of scale weight when I am…
  • This might sound dumb, but check your shoes. When I first started working out my lower back down to my knees was in so much pain I could hardly walk. I changed shoes and it went away.
  • You said you quit fizzy drinks, does that mean caffeine, too? Caffeine withdrawal can cause that fuzzy feeling.
  • Yep. Plus it's shocking how much your clothes weigh. There's a huge difference between weighing yourself in jeans and sweater versus workout pants and a tshirt versus your underwear.
  • If there were, we wouldn't need to be here.
  • Oh yeah and they are random and out of the blue! I remember an intense craving for cherry pie, which I never really ate anyway. But I would have slugged a kitten for a piece of cherry pie. It was maybe 2-3 days of that and then it went away.
  • Say, "Thanks for the tips!" then go on doing what you are doing. Losing weight is just like everything else- everyone thinks their way is the best way. You have to figure out what works for you and do that.
