  • I'm due 10/7 & it's getting SO CLOSE. Only 3.5 weeks until her due date & 2.5 weeks left of work (really hoping for a few days at home before her arrival for some long-overdue nesting that I just don't have the energy for on weekdays). Although a work acquaintance who is a L&D Nurse looked at me this morning & goes…
  • Ok-- first of all, ditto to @KnitOrMiss 's mention of female hormone cycles. I have 2/4 weeks a month where my weight plateau's or goes up due to hormones & then I get the water "whoosh's"...It is totally due to ovulation week & menstruation (when I'm not preggers, like now. lol). I try to look at overall monthly trends…
  • I'm probably one of the biggest pro-Metformin advocates on this feed...lol. I love the stuff, and at this point a physician would have to pry it from my cold-dead hands before I gave it up  . I was finally diagnosed with PCOS in the summer of 2015, after years of irregular periods & infertility (finally found a…
  • So "they" (medical community) say that birth control doesn't directly lead to weight-gain, but I ALWAYS found that I had a ferocious appetite on BCP when I was on it for cycle-regulation for years (I was on Ortho Tricyclen Lo--this was long before I was ever diagnosed with PCOS). So in my personal experience, "Yes-- they…
  • I don't know if it truly "helps me lose weight" by itself...but I do know it helps me "curb carb cravings" which are a major struggle for weight-loss to me. This is in addition to other benefits I see from it like, better sleep, less anxiety, etc. My weight loss success is better on Inositol, partly due to less consuming…
  • It's a pain, but I ditto the above suggestion to price-compare between stores, buy & freeze what is on sale (assuming you have freezer space...not everyone does). Most places publish their ads online a few days before the sale cycle starts, so you could strategically plan where you grocery shop each week. Another…
  • Yea, between the bacon & chocolate...my husband was/is seriously concerned that I was somehow having somebody else's child...not ours. lol
  • I love, she hates: Bacon. I used to LOVE bacon & as a low carber ate it multiple times a week...this kid hates it 90% of the time. Sometimes I can eat it now that I'm 30 weeks, but I feel queasy afterwards most of the time when I do. I love, she hates: Chocolate. Especially dark chocolate. I was a chocolate…
  • My best success was approximately 40-60 total g carbs/day (symptoms & maximum weight-loss)...BUT I still had results eating 100-150 total g carbs/day (symptom management, gradual/slow weight-loss-etc), with occasional splurge days that went higher. (now hanging out at around 150 total g/day during pregnancy unless…
  • @enterdanger Another option for cheaper mat clothes is Old Navy. I have gotten some great deals in-store (really small selection, but they seem to put them on clearance quickly) & online with coupons. Free shipping (if above a certain $ amount) & easy returns in-store. Just thought I'd pass that along. That's where most of…
  • Good luck in your journey! I also have PCOS. In case you were interested, there's a great & supportive PCOS group on MFP. We'd love to have you join us! http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/3070-p-c-o-sis I lost nearly 60 pounds this past year on a Low Carb High Fat Moderate Protein diet for my PCOS (as prescribed by…
  • That's a bummer! I've been tempted to order mat clothes from Zulily... But I think I'll resist after reading this. Another suggestion, see if any of the baby consignment stores in your area take maternity clothes. I know the one in our town pays decent rates for good condition or like new mat clothes.
  • For me, I have PCOS & it took us nearly 6 years to conceive. Granted...I was only diagnosed w/ PCOS within this past year by a doctor who actually took the time to look at me as a patient & my medical history, instead of wanting to instantly recommend fertility treatments or the generic "lose weight, relax, it will happen"…
  • I'm currently expecting (27.5 weeks). I was on keto levels of LCHF pre-pregnancy, but when I got pregnant my OB told me it was ok to flex my carbs back up to around 100-150g/day (+/- based on morning sickness...she was the doctor who put me on LCHF to help with conception in the first place). That bump in carbs ended up…
  • If you're tied to using the multi-med formulations of Dayquil/Nyquil, then you might want to use the "capsules." They are the made-to-swallow variety & don't have the added sugars. ALTHOUGH, you might want to check your bottle of Dayquil, some of these types of meds have started switching to artificial sweeteners, so the…
  • I can ditto that "beef bacon" tastes good, our local Halal grocery carries it. It's not "bacon" but it is still a great protein option for variety. (although I haven't seen this one in stores, I'll have to see if our grocery is carrying it). Also delicious..."lamb bacon" if you can find it. We have a local meatery that…
  • Yes! Ditto to this. I think I was able to stay on track because of snacks. I've outlined a few of my favorite "snack replacements" below, since you had specifically asked about foods. Mine might look a little different than others, because I have intolerances/allergies to most artificial sweeteners or sugar substitutes,…
  • I have PCOS as well...After years of really not losing weight with the CICO method (despite my calories being much lower than they were on LCHF), I still struggled with PCOS symptoms & infertility (although I was never "officially diagnosed" as PCOS until 2015...and it was that doctor who actually put me on a LCHF diet).…
  • It might be worth talking to your GP or OB to see if they'd be willing to check you for anemia a little earlier than usual (I know i had a check at my 10w appointment/confirmation US), but that could also be leading to tiredness? I know I really struggled with exhaustion in the first 12 weeks, and I can't imagine combining…
  • I was told it was ok to lose during the 1st trimester, & that I'd probably "bounce back" during the second trimester. I ended up dropping almost 20# in the first trimester (despite never really being sick...my metabolism LOVES early pregnancy apparently), and I'm currently 24+5 & still down over 5# from my pre-pregnancy…
  • My experience: I took maca for almost 2 years as part of my morning smoothie routine 7 days a week (maca + amazing grass + hemp protein + raw cacao + milk substitute), with an inositol chaser for year 2...and it did not have any positive benefits for me for conception or improvement of menstrual irregularities (ended up…
  • I had this test done at 10-weeks as well (I'm 33, which is technically under the "AMA" threshold, but have family history of some genetic issues). My doctor's office goes through Sequenom (sp?). This is how I also found out I was having a girl, but we were more relieved for the no common trisomies or sex-linked genetic…
  • I changed mine, but only because I was an existing MFP member prior to pregnancy, and was on an ultra low carb diet per doctor's recommendations (no more than 60-70g maximum total carbs/day). I'm allowed 150g total/day in pregnancy (unless I develop gestational diabetes), so I had to alter my macro percentages to reflect…
  • @KnitorMiss I think Metformin has a lot of benefits besides just the lowering of the A1C/glucose/insulin level labs. I know it lowers free floating estrogen & androgens, which are one of the things that mess up cycles with women with PCOS (& probably what doesn't jive with your continuous BC). I think there is some sort of…
  • I'm glad you're taking time for you, to heal both physically & mentally. While I haven't walked the IVF path either, my heart aches for you. Re: Acupuncture. I know I think the world of my husband's chiropractor/acupuncturist. After nearly 3 years of chronic back pain/tightness from an injury (that 2 years of traditional…
  • Thanks ladies! Everyone warned me that she'd get active as I tried to go to sleep, no one warned me she would have the ability to wake me up from a dead sleep at 20 weeks (now 21). @enterdanger Seems like great symbolism for spring! My mom often jokes that she must have had only 1 day of fertility each year. My…
  • Milestone alert: My husband got to feel LittleBit kick last night. I've been feeling her pretty consistently since 15 weeks or so, but at 21 weeks, the husband got to feel her too. I'm super excited about this milestone, because soon I will be able to cuddle up to him during the nightly 4AM dance party LittleBit has, so…
  • @HayleyAnne012911 There are some people who use progesterone for birth control, but this isn't really a birth control thing in this case. You take 1 pill a day for X # of days, & then a few days after you stop taking the pill, your period starts (the actual dosage is determined by your doctor). It's the synthetic version…
  • I'm so sorry. My thoughts are with you & your husband during this time. I was so hoping that this would work for you both. I hope you can take some time for you to rest, recover, & grieve as long as you need to... and when you're ready, that your little embryo-icicle is the baby you've been waiting for
  • Could it be dairy? I get this with wheat/corn, but I also discovered (when off all corn & wheat) that dairy does this to me too... I know it's counter-intuitive with bloating, but make sure you are drinking A LOT of water...it helps flush the bloat. (especially when low carb)
