  • You need to vary your running. Quit just running and start training, when I did this, I improved. You need to have hill work, speed work, tempo runs, easy runs and long slow runs. You should also vary the distances--hill work and speed work are higher intesity and should be shorter, your tempo and easy/recovery runs mid…
  • Depends--if my run is 4 miles, I probably don't eat anything additional. If I run 24 miles I eat some of that back. I work at balancing losing weight with giving my body what it needs for training (currently training for a 50 mile run).
  • First: Monsters of Rock 1984--included Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, AC/DC, Accept and others Last: Van Halen-April 2012 I am going to see Meatloaf at the end of this month and Kiss/Motley Crue in September!
  • I weigh between 118-123 (I fluctuate about 5 lbs--depending on my training). I wear a 0 or 2 --- sometimes a 4 (depending on style and fit). I have found that this is a comfortable weight for me to maintain without feeling like I 'can't' eat things I want.
  • You should eat dinner at whatever time is convenient for you. We usually eat between 7-8, but this is because I go for a run after work, walk the dog, take a shower, etc. A calorie is a calorie no matter what time you eat. Of course the earlier you eat, you have a better chance of burning it off.
  • I like the Nike pro combat shirts they fit tight and have thumb holes (love those), it's easy to layer an additional shirt if needed. I have a couple of pairs of tights and will wear on especially cold days. I think a vest is nice to layer, because your arms and legs tend to get warm once you get started but keeping your…
  • For temps in the 50's-I wear shorts, short sleeve shirt, I might put on a light running jacket (make sure it is well vented) and a cap--to keep the water out of my eyes. Running in the rain is a lot of fun!
  • Eat a snack--almonds, hummus, skinny bagel with light cream cheese, pretzels, peanut butter are a few of my favorites. I just drink water--I would rather eat my calories then drink them.
  • I decided I needed a challenge. I will complete a marathon and two 50k's between now and January 30, 2012. Once you start--you can't quit!
  • non-scale victory (I had to google it to figure it out )
  • I have been running for about 8 years. It did not start out fun--but over time it does become addicting. At this time I have a hard time taking off days. I generally run 5 days a week and feel guilty for the two days I take off. I did not really like running until I hit the 3 mile mark--then it became fun. It just seemed…
  • I snack on almonds (usually 10 almonds will satisfy), laughing cow cheese with a couple of crackers/pretzel crisps or hummus with vegatables. I find that if I eat a protien rich snack it takes the hunger away versus somethink that is mostly carbs.
  • I love sandwiches--Panera, Jason's Deli, Newks, etc. I have nothing against carbs, I just try to pick healthy versions (whole wheat, multi-grain, etc.). That goes for pasta, bread, rice, potatoes etc. I concentrate more on the items I put on my sandwich, no mayo, no bacon, no ranch, etc. (I have to have cheese--I mean what…
  • Brooks Adrenaline. I would suggest going to a specialty running store to get fitted. They will get to know you and often take back a pair of shoes if they don't work. My shoes last around 3--4 months. I usually keep 2 or more pairs and rotate them, so they can dry out between runs.
  • Do it!! The week before the marathon will be a taper week--so you can get in the few miles you need while you are out of town. It doesn't matter what you finish in--just doing it is an accomplishment! It will definately be nice to have a training partner--especially for your long runs; doing 20 by yourself is hard! Check…
  • Too funny! My running partner will not run trails except from first frost to around March / April because she is afraid of snakes.
  • Snakes (no rattlers--yet), turtles, frogs, armadillo (I was so excited to see my first real live one--usually I only see them on the side of the road), rabbits, deer and mountain goats!
  • That is awesome! The beauty of running is that everyone is different! You are only trying to better yourself--do it a little faster next time, a little farther, etc. You are only competing against yourself! If you go to a 5k event (or any race event) you will see all kinds of people--all with different goals, some will run…
  • I have folks that tell me daily I'm too thin--I'm not. I am at the right weight for my height and frame. I am healthy, I work out regulary and do my best to choose healthy food. It drives me crazy--because it is a daily struggle to maintain the weight loss.
  • I would use the at home scale because that is the one you will use regularly. Although I am sure it was nice to see that extra 1lb at the Dr. office!!
  • I am also a runner--Huntsville, AL---I feel your pain; I hate the summer!! 1. I might add something to your water--powerade/gatorade. I do this occasionally if I am doing a long run or working on speed and it is hot/humid. I just try to pay attention to the calories and water it down. Pay attention to your body and pull…
  • I have found it helpful to on on-line before I go out to eat to look up nutritional information. It helps me decide what to order before I get there and keeps me from being tempted to order not so healthly options.
  • I will eat tomato sauce, salsa and ketchup but not fresh tomatoes. I will eat a salad but do not want lettuce on my sandwich (especially a warm sandwich).
  • I have been running for over 7 years and to this day I hate the first 2 miles. In the beginning every step was a struggle and I wondered why I was doing it--then one day it all clicked. Now, I still have bad days where the runs don't click and I want to lay in the middle of the street and make someone come pick me up! But…
  • If I feel my breathing getting out of hand--I slow my breathing by counting. One breath in for two strides, one breath out for two strides, etc. You will just have to find the 'count' that works for you. Over time your body will get used to it--just have to re-train it! Good Luck!
  • I vote yes--I drink a lot of tea (plain--no sugar, cream, etc).
  • Have you spoke to your Doctor? You may have thyroid or other issues which may need to be treated to assist you with your goal.
  • Nothing is more fun (Not!!) then wrestling a sweaty sports bra off!! Glad you found one you like!
  • You should get all your nutrients from food. With that being said I take a multi-vitamin daily--I figure it can't hurt! I use Sam's Club brand--it had good reviews. Make sure you take it with food--if I don't it makes me sick. I think as a female taking a calcium / vitamin D supplement can be a good thing. I went to a…
  • I rinse ground beef under very hot water before adding taco seasoning, etc. just to try and get all possible grease off.
