  • all that went wrong, and you still had fun.....ain't triathlon great?! You win for best attitude.
  • You love cycling and want to go longer distance, I would say go on and invest in a road bike. Find a good bike shop, or a club and look for a used one or year old model to help save on money. It is much more enjoyable to be riding a well fitted and maintained bike that doesn't weigh a ton every time you face a small climb.…
  • Calavera swim wear for swim practice....cool swim wear that stays in place.

  • Never put anything off that you can do today!!! There are no guarantees, it is about getting better, which you will, but enjoy what you are already capable of accomplishing! It is your personal journey, get started on it!
  • 47 and have been gaining muscle for the past year after being injured doing triathlons. I'm stronger and fitter after being in the weight room for the past year, I am seeing muscle definition I haven't had in decades, all the mirrors help keep me motivated about my diet.....it can be done :-).
  • I did Rev 3 in Maine and loved it (I think 2 years ago). Some areas of road on the bike were patchy, but local was great. Run included beautiful wood and path sections and pretty flat. Great local support. I would always race Rev 3 over IM unless I was trying to qualify for something. I just feel like they value their…
  • 2XU are some of my favorites for plain black bottoms, and I have pretty big thighs. I like that they come in longer coverage options, cause I like more support and protection for my legs. Some of the ladies bottoms are really getting too short for me. I also have a pair of pearl izumi's that look great, but seams and panel…
  • I had breathing and anxiety issues during race swims initially. Even once I got proficient in the pool, it just took time to control my nerves and breathing. Things were (are) still more of a struggle with a wet suit on. I do practice a lot in a wetsuit to get used to the constriction if I'm facing a wetsuit race.…
  • Just find some open water swim practice, where buoys are set up to practice sighting. Sometimes you can go volunteer or watch a race and take part in their pre race practice swim. Just don't fight the water, OK to go easy if you are apprehensive your first time!

  • I cut back about 50% volume the week before, but continue to do some race intensity short work just to keep things firing.
  • Agree with Jackson. If they are just sprints you should be ready to get into pool 48 hours after, then add in light spin. Should be able to get in 4 good days then back to rest for the next one. Good time to work on transitions!
  • Thanks for moderating group....and best of luck in NOLA! Race fast and be safe. I'll be doing support duties at FL70.3 and am so stoked to see tri season getting started! Post lots of details for those of us on the sidelines. Noobies can learn a lot from race reports, so its not bragging. Godspeed.

  • Harder for me to stay focused without the immediate goal of weight loss. Best advice to find new goals, and I'm searching for a few doable ones. It is that....I've made it and I want to enjoy life vs. I don't want to take any chances of gaining weight back.....somedays I go one way, some days the other. I've been on…
  • closer to 50 than 40....does that count?
  • Sara and Sidesteel you are providing a great service....love to read and learn and watch you help people.
  • In to learn more, very confused about these topics. Also have questions about exactly where BF% range should be to allow for strength/muscle gain and how low it can be maintained without loss of muscle in a 47 year old female. Look forward to learning!
  • There are some real gems in this interview....Can't wait to suggest it to my friends and use the quote "deprivation and consistency are inversely related." Well said.
  • Sounds crazy but once or twice I've plateau'd and only started losing again when I increased calories....Not the case with my holiday plateau, just eating more this month.
  • Came on quickly so most should come off quickly....get on it.
  • I was having those nights and was getting pretty miserable. I ended up increasing my calories slightly and actually improved my weight loss per week. Guess my body knew what it needed. Now my weight loss has slowed again, but is steady and I'm sleeping well.
  • Adopt a new form of life that includes the healthy eating and exercise, so that it is not a diet that you stop and everything returns to how it was. Find a form of exercise that you love and won't want to give up, sign up for races, set goals, take hiking vacations just find what moves you and makes you happy and replaces…
  • I make a black bean hummus with no oils or fats added. 1 can chickpeas, 1 can black beans, red pepper flakes and cumin to taste. The liquid portion for processing is about 1/3 of the liquid off the can of chickpeas. I rinse and drain the black beans. Serve with baked pita pieces, Just found a new flax and higher protein…
