  • Everyone's bp goes up and down through the day depending on what we're doing. That's supposed to happen. What matters is how it averages out over the day. There are some technicalities to getting an accurate reading too. Why are u checking your bp in the first place? You can have a 24h bp monitor if u talk to your doctor.…
  • Hairy dieters fast food cookbook is great for calorie counted healthy dinners
  • I have no idea how anyone could do a nightshift without a good meal midway- you wouldn't do a day shift that way. You don't eat as much in the daytime so cals work out. Better eating a mral and planning than succumbing to the evil night shift snacks!

  • A proper meal at about 2am with plenty protein. I usually take a steam micro meal but aim for chicken or fish with veggies. And a decent snack for the 5am slump when the vending machine beckons. I like mini houmous pot with mini breadsticks, a pack of dried fruit and nuts (Whitworth sold in tesco if u in UK), miso soup.…

  • If you are actually hungry (as opposed to just wanting to eat) maybe consider trying higher protein foods at meals. Eg. Poached egg approx 100 kcal, toast approx 100kcal. The egg keeps u feeling full loads longer.
  • Recently finished it. Totally amazed that it works, couldn't run a minute at the start, now doing 5-6 k 3x week. I did a few weeks twice and took a month longer than you are 'suppsed' to. I never believed I could actually do it. Found the first 'long' run (week 4 or 5) psychologically tough just cos I didn't think I could.…
  • What kind of hernia is it? Is it around your belly button, or is it over a surgical scar? Hernias are often not as big a deal as people imagine- if it is over a surgical scar site then lifting etc might make it bigger during the exertion (as the intra-abdominal pressure goes up) but it should go down right after with no…
  • When I started I became more self concious and felt worse for a while because the things I had been ignoring, and pretending weren't a problem, suddenly came to the forefront of my conciousness. It improved after I lost a bit and started to feel the changes.
  • Important to note that the study started off with people who were a normal healthy weight. The bodies of people with substantial excess weight would respond differently.
  • For me it has to be a cooked breakfast. I just had a scrambled medium egg- approx 100 kcal, 3 rashers bacon medallions (18kcal each) and 2 pieces toast (weightwatchers 50kcal each) and a big squirt of tomato ketchup. Perfect hangover food for only 250kcal.
  • You are taking an acupuncturists advice on this?Seriously?! Why don't you talk to your doctor? There is a link with other autoimmune diseases certainly in people with hashimotos thyroiditis. I am not familiar with a link to gluten sensitivity, but this isn't really my field of expertise. But please don't cut out an massive…
  • ^^ This Its absolute nonsense, it doesn't help weight loss, it doesn't 'clear toxins'. It DOES remove good bacteria from your gut, increases risk of bowel infection and puts you at risk of bowel perforation. The inside of your bowel doesn't need 'cleansing' it does that itself very effectively, and there is no 'build up'…
  • People who are 'naturally' slim (not me), are that way not because of some kind of magic (although genetics play a role), but more because they are good at doing exactly this. It absolutely is possible to lose weight this way, provided you are eating the right KINDS of things. Obviously a big plate of veggies and lean…
  • Its probably just mostly that you have got used to how your face looked 'fat', and are adjusting to your new appearance. You can do facial muscle exercises to tone up and moisturise to help the skin. But remember this is about 'health' even more than it is about 'looking good', keep it up!
  • Yes. Although make sure you are getting enough vitamins/protein etc from the rest of your (hopefully balanced) diet.
  • Every now and again I give myself a day (or a few days) 'off' on which I log my calories, but ease up on the strictness of the diet and have a glass of wine/some chips etc. I rarely go over what my 'maintenance' calories are, so I figure although I might not lose so much that week I am unlikely to gain. And giving myself a…
  • As above- there is less than no value in colonic irrigation. There is no 'build up' or whatever to 'cleanse', your body does that itself very effectively. All it can and will do is remove the 'good bacteria' from your colon putting you more at risk of bowel infections, and risk bowel perforation. Oh, and be gross,…
  • You are correct. It is absolute, complete and utter nonsense. I frequently test people's blood pH, and trust me, what they have had for dinner, does not and could not, affect blood pH one iota. (unless you are dining out on a couple hundred aspirin or tricyclic antidepressants) Your henderson-hasselbach equation is right…

  • If you have insulin resistance, or 'pre-diabetes' there is no real value in getting it 'diagnosed', other than to use that information to try and prevent yourself developing diabetes proper. As you are already doing the right things to do that i.e. eating healthy and losing weight, I think you should carry on with what you…
  • Miso soup- love it, it has been my diet saviour. I get little sachets by Yutaka, just add hot water. 18 kcal per cup and really fills that salty snack requirement.
  • This just ISN'T TRUE. Otherwise there would be no problem with famine in sub-saharan africa as everyone would gain weight when their calories were restricted. There MIGHT be a mechanism by which your body tries to become more efficient when calorie intake is very low and therefore weightloss would be SLOWER but still…
  • There is such a thing as drinking too much water, but not related to weight gain. Drinking too much water (and I mean a lot too much) can mess with your electrolyte balance (blood salt levels) and in extreme cases cause seizures and heart problems. To reassure you, eight cups a day won't do this- you would need to drink…
  • Eating 1200 kcal/day isn't going to cause you any long term harm (as long as it is a balanced diet). Eating 1400 per day isn't necessarily going to be healthier, because it depends what your calorie intake is made up of. What is important is finding something you can stick to, so if you don't feel you can stick to 1200,…
  • Its nonsense and has no basis in science. Most of the 'allergy tests' especially administered by health food stores or online are BS as well Also a physician.
  • Its a cold. 'Detoxification' is nonsense.
  • My goal is 1200 and that only gives me 1lb/week projected weight loss (just barely gives me a 500kcal deficit/day). Once I get back into good habits I don't find it too bad. I tend to have 250 kcal for breakfast, 250-300kcal for lunch and 600kcal for dinner, leaving me 50-100kcal for a snack (which I usually have mid-late…
  • Actually I think this is correct. Metabolic rate is not a constant, it varies with age health and activity level. If a person is sedentary and has a BMR of 1200 (essentially what mine is), they will struggle to have enough of a deficit to lose weight eating 1200KCal/day. 1200 is an arbitary number without scientific…
  • It isn't gluten intolerance- gluten intolerance =coeliac disease = you would be unwell, with diarrhoea and losing weight like crazy. That is a serious condition, with potentially serious consequences, and would mean cutting out all gluten (not just bread) for the rest of your life The 'intolerance tests' are pretty much…
