  • For the 4th year in a row I ran the Seabrook Lucky Trails (Seabrook, Tx). In the past, I've done their double half-marathon challenge. This year, I decided to do the hardest challenge they offer: Run a marathon on Saturday and half-marathon on Sunday. Wow, that was hard. Especially since I under trained. The weather was…
  • I've done Brazos Bend before (half and a 25K, not their marathon). That's a great place to run and such a great organization! Congrats!
  • I ran the Seabrook Lucky Trails races this past weekend (4th year to do it). I decided to do their hardest challenge. I ran a marathon on Saturday, and a half-marathon on Sunday. Surprisingly, not the slowest half-marathon I've ever done!
  • Also curious what you're eating to consume so much a day. I think recommended (or maybe it's minimum) is 25grams for men and 22 for women. I average 22-41 a day.
  • As others have said, you're running too fast for your current level. Slow down. Like any other sport or exercise, running pace takes time to build up to. Though I have good running endurance, I know if I took up swimming, I'd have to start slow.
  • Ran the Chevron Houston Marathon Sunday, plus the ABB 5K on Saturday (as warm-up). Second marathon. Under-trained for this, so my time was same as last year. I did feel better during most of it and after. Perfect weather helped, started at 35 degrees, and wasn't more than 50 or so when I finished. Sunny, and not much wind.
  • Ran the Chevron Houston Marathon (plus the ABB 5K the day before). Perfect weather for both races. This was my second marathon. Could not have asked for better support from friends (plus it's always a well-organized event).
  • I run with one headphone in my ear, the other out. Allows me to hear everything around me and stay alert.
  • I have chocolate every day. I eat high-quality chocolate I like, as anything less keeps me craving. I have a proper portion to my calories for the day. So, sometimes that's two pieces of little Dove Promises, and some days it's 1/3 or 1/2 a very good chocolate bar (whatever one serving is for that bar). I like dark…
  • I'm not on the forums much, but am a gamer when I have the time. Enjoying Fallout 4 at the moment.
  • I had to switch to a high protein breakfast to help my appetite spread out more evenly during the day.
  • ^^THIS. I'm 5'8", 46, and 155lb is as low as I can really go. You are well within normal. If you don't like your appearance, work on the recomp (build more muscle to look trimmer).
  • There is no such thing as needing a detox. That's what your kidneys and liver do for you. "Reset" and "detox" are made up to get people to try fad diets and/or buy junk they don't need. More of the bullsh**t that is too much of the "health/diet" industry. The changes you've already made are what have you on a path to…
  • I'd say mindset is one of the biggest factors in weight loss and maintenance for many. The physical part is calories in versus calories out and is relatively simple, except for that temptation to overeat. For me, real success came from understanding what caused me to eat when I wasn't hungry (emotional eating), and…
  • Chevron Houston Marathon on Sunday. My first marathon. Hot conditions for January....mid to high 60's with 100% humidity, plus rain and gusting winds. Finished in 5:32. Haven't seen full stats to know my standing and all. I under-trained for this and with the humid conditions, I was just happy to finish my first one. Also…
  • You've made excellent progress. Why would you quit when you've done so well? As already said, your friend has far more weight to lose, so will lose faster. When she's as close to her goal as you are to yours, things will change. Don't compare yourself to her. And if her progress is discouraging you, then stop paying…
  • ^^This. I always wear a shirt I trust on race day.
  • You must! Very well organized and proceeds go to a good local charity.
  • Finished the Texas Bridge Series for the third year in a row by running the La Porte By The Bay Half-Marathon, which goes over the Fred Hartman Bridge. Love this race and series.
  • My cholesterol eventually came into normal range by increasing exercise ( a mix of running and weightlifting) and adjusting my diet. I don't eat high carb (nor low). I do focus my carb intake on vegetables. I do get a lot of protein, fiber, and the fat that naturally comes with a lot of protein.
  • I have to play it by ear a bit, but I try to hit what my calculated burn is, if not that day, it spreads goes into the next day. I'm ravenous after long runs, so I have to be careful not to overeat.
  • Congrats! Great job. Dang...I've run 11 half-marathons and still haven't hit your time! (I have hit 2:18)
  • Just want to chime in as others have that you're doing the right things, so I recommend you work on reducing your stress/anxiety over it. Diabetes is rampant in my family...definitely a major genetic component for us. My grandfather had it, my mother was Type 1, my brother, aunt, several close cousins...all have Type 2.…
  • Things I do: 1. Run at a much slower pace. I run about 1min to 1.5 minutes slower per mile in the summer than other times of the year. 2. Hydrate well before the run. Before a run, I make sure I've stayed properly hydrated throughout the day (or night before). 3. Find as much shade as possible on the course. 4. I have no…
  • Just chiming in that the heat/humidity are probably a huge factor. When I run in the summer, I slow my pace way down. And, "speed" is relative to your ability, so 10:30/pace in the heat might be too fast for 7 miles for you right now. Unlike many others, I can't run completely fasted for more than 6 miles. I get a queasy…
  • Have a reasonable portion size. Enjoy the foods you love in moderation.
  • I've had good luck with Addidas, New Balance. Also, CompressionZ, which is well priced at Amazon.
  • I never think of it as starting over. Whenever I hit a period of my old eating habits, I just reminded myself i had a long term goal to reach and to get back to it. If it's going to be a permanent lifestyle change, be kind to yourself and remember it takes a time for the new habits to stick. Always keep what you want in…
  • Ugh. Sorry about the knee. Crossing fingers it's a speedy recovery.
  • Happy Tuesday, everyone! Monday: rest day. Cardio: 6 mile run, easy pace with some tempo thrown in. 69 minutes. Food: on target. Weight back down in the 157-158lb range. You all may see less of me. I'm starting to wean myself off MFP. I'm going to do it slowly, but I will probably post less often in this thread. I love…
