  • a different stance on it..... http://caloriecount.about.com/truth-starvation-mode-ft28742
  • Well said :) Some days I stick to around 1200 but mostly I try to work out and eat around 1400/1500 and that works fine for me and I've been losing 1lb and sometimes 2lb per week. On the days I work out I find I get really weak if I try to stick with 1200, I think it's important to listen to your body and your own…
  • True, but I got sooo tired of hearing 'eat less than 1200 cals and you'll go into starvation mode and gain weight' that I decided to do my own research and have my own opinion of it. Be it right or be it wrong.....at least it's mine and not someone else's :)
  • You're best off googling it and coming to your own conclusions cos the definition can vary depending on where you look/who you talk to. I err on the sceptical side to be honest.
  • Not drinking wine or snacking in the evening, that's been my toughest challenge.
  • I very rarely eat between meals and actually find it difficult to do so, but I do often have a snack in the evening as I eat dinner pretty early. I try to space out my calories and use about 250 for breakfast, 400 for lunch and 550 for dinner. That's just the split that works best for me and of course there are days when…
  • All of the foods and their values are input by users.....kinda like a wikipedia for dieters lol. Thats why when you type in a search for a food in the database it can come up with dozens of variations. You just need to search until you find the one that matches or create your own.
  • I think I would lose the will to live but if it's working for you and you're enjoying it then good for you. I feel long term it would be incredibly difficult to maintain though and careful you're not just losing muscle and water as opposed to fat.
  • I think if you do a google search and find a site where you can put in your weight and goals etc then it should come up with a pretty decent zig zagging formula for you. I've never tried it myself but I might if I suddenly hit a brick wall or get incredibly bored with 1200 cals each and every day!
  • I always get headaches around this time too.....although doesn't seem to be on the scale you get them. Just a constant mild ache at the side of my head and behind the eyes.......especially before bed and when I first wake up. On top of the back ache, feeling like I've been punched in the stomach, adapting the emotional…
  • Also, just looked at your diary and you go significantly over on calories almost every single day......that's probably why you've stopped losing.
  • agree with flamfloz above, your cals appear to be too low to actually be classed as zig zagging. To zig zag you're supposed to go over your goal one day and then under it another, not hit your goal on a high day and then go under it even more on a low.
  • It's a bit of a generalization in my view, also I like to see statements like this backed up with cold hard facts. I've been on 1200 cals a day for a month and my weight loss hasn't stalled or slowed, it's been steady and consistent. I think it's sooo important to read a range of opinions, facts, research and reach your…
  • Are you calculating your exercise calories correctly? Don't always trust the figures that MFP give out.....do your own research and check them. Also make sure you're weighing your food and not underestimating calories there. Otherwise it could be as others have said....water retention, muscle mass, adjustment period. Just…
  • It must be true if you read it in the Daily Mail!! Next week they'll print something completely different on the same subject.
  • Yeah I've had to give up my beloved wine as it was stalling my weight loss. I now only drink occasionally and I used to have a glass or two of wine almost every night. Now I don't drink at all during the week and only on the odd weekend. It was hard for the first couple of weeks but now I don't miss it at all surprisingly.…
  • We all do it once in a while, I always get cravings around that time too and you'd need iron will power to resist them! Look at it on the positive side......you only went over by 322. In the grand scheme of things, for just one day, that's nothing. We all slip occasionally, what's important is that we get up again.
  • If you've had a load of alcohol then you'll have lost water weight, once your hydration levels are back to normal then you'll probably notice a bit of an increase. Just write it off as a bad week and keep going. I really think your bf needs to be more supportive though and not encouraging you to order a load of food when…
  • I found this helpful re: starvation mode http://caloriecount.about.com/truth-starvation-mode-ft28742 I don't believe all the horror stories but nor do I believe starving yourself is a good way to lose weight. I think people need to reach their own conclusions and ways of losing weight that work for them whilst remaining…
  • 1.5lb loss in a week is fine.....!! You need to think more long term and lose at a healthy rate. If you continue at this rate that will be 6lb every 4 weeks which is a good loss.
  • I normally find 1200 enough to be honest. You just have to make good choices. Healthy wraps or pittas are filling and low cal, soups and stir fries are good for when you don't have many calories left. Obviously if you're used to eating a lot more then it takes a bit of getting used to but if you stick at it then it does…
  • lol i think secretly you're liking the attention or else you would have blocked him! I don't blame you, it's good for him to see what he's missing.....just not sure why you're complaining about it. If you genuinely don't want his attention then block him....simple really.
  • I had the same thing sometimes, it was like certain people couldn't bare to actually compliment me so they would say things like 'you're getting too thin' (no I wasn't) or 'careful, or you'll start to look ill if you lose anymore' (also not true). I'm not sure if its cos they felt threatened as I don't think it was genuine…
  • Age: 30 Sex: F Body Fat : 32% (scales) Daily Calories: 1600 Weight: 130lbs Height: 5'5 BF Goal (optional): 25% I'm dubious as to the accuracy of the scales looking at my weight/height/body fat compared to other peoples but as I don't have access to a different set of scales to compare I'll just stick to that figure :)
  • walking will burn ALOT more calories if your treadmill has an incline setting. I can burn 300 cals in 20 mins walking at 6.5kph on incline level 15. Foods to avoid anything processed or greasy and weigh out your portions so you know exactly how many cals you're eating.....its sooo easy to misjudge portion size. Fill your…
  • Yes, I eat back most of my exercise calories. Yes, I'm losing weight each week.
  • I think there is only one way to find out......I'd try increasing first also.
  • Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia frozen yogurt.......yum yum yum. Also Fruit Pastel lollies here in the UK.
  • I'm a UK 10 which I think is the same as a US 6 and I'm 5'5". I'm 130lbs and I'm not totally sure on my measurements.....I think my hips are 38, my waist is 28 on a good day when I 'suck it in' but usually 29/30 which technically should be a uk12 but 10's always fit me fine and sometimes an 8 :/ My chest size is 34B or C.…
  • I'm going to do it forever this time because whenever I've dieted in the past and reached my goal weight I slip so easily back into old habits.........this time I'm making the change for good. Exercise, a healthy diet and monitoring my calories so when I reach my goal weight I stay at my goal weight.
