I am not reaching 1200 calories but I am not hungry after I eat my planned out meals. I just do not see the sense in eating whenever I am not hungry....isn't that what got me here in the first place? Any suggestions how I could get more calories in without making myself feel YUCK whenever I get up from the table? I know not many people have this problem but this is a problem for me. I get 900 to 1000 calories in on a good day. Should I splurge one day? Only problem with that is I ate out for my anniversary and gained a pound and it really discouraged me and I felt YUCKY after our dinner anyway. Need help please!

you said you plan your meals? add little bits of small high-calories (healthy) foods to each meal, you wont even notice!
smoothies are a good way to add sneaky calories too, like adding egg whites or peanut butter to them

You should be netting at least 1200 cals per day. Try planning your meals with more calorie dense foods. For example, instead of that egg white eat the whole egg!

"Grazing" is a great way to consume. You shouldn't just be eating at meals, but really having small "snacks" throughout the day.
I snack about 100 calories in between each meal. You shouldn't try ingesting all of your calories in 2-3 meals.

    That is perfect advice!

I wouldn't recommend forcing yourself to eat but, I would suggest adding healthy fats like almonds or yogurts as a snack. How often do you eat during the day? I normally eat three meals and two snacks throughout the day.
  • One thing to try is to eat your calories spaced equally over 5 smaller meals throughout the day instead of 3 full meals. This will keep you from feeling yucky everytime you eat. Also try to limit your calories to good foods mostly from proteins with some complex carbs as well. When you start eating too many simple sugars (junk food) it makes you feel full and doesn't give you the energy to burn it off.

If you are constantly only getting around 900 - 1000 calories... I'd say your body was excited that it got some much needed fuel and it stored it right away as fat.

Your food diary isn't open, so we can't see the choices you are making.
Try to add a handful of nuts or a spoonful of all natural peanut butter to some snacks. That is an awesome way to add healthy nutrients, fats, and calories. Or add some avocado to a salad or sandwich. If you are eating that few calories your body is probably in some form of starvation mode and needs more calories.
Try to not add junk to get to 1200 calories, but add healthy snacks.

I tend to have the same problem. Sometimes, when I go in "diet" mode... I was seriolusly only eating like 600 calories a day.... And from everything i've seen, your body needs at least 1200 calories to function properly.. It's hard, this I know, but try to find foods that have alot of calories that aren't going to fill you up... Like almonds or something like that. Try that and see if that helps. :)

I have your issue sometimes, and I've been told by a trainer that if I can't eat what I should each day, just make sure my average daily calorie count is what it should be.

So usually I'll have one day where I eat more. Like I'll have a cheeseburger and fries...and those calories add to my daily average. Does that make sense.

But I think all the other advice you've gotten is great too!

I just looked at your diary...what about instead of lower calorie bread, use a higher calorie or put a slice of cheese or mayo on your sandwich. Or instead of strawberries, have a banana. Really all you need is one more 100 calorie snack and you'll be good.

I do not like bananas....I will try to see if maybe I can get another 100 calorie snack in. I have been trying to watch my sodium intake and sooo many snacks and foods are very high in sodium.

I very rarely eat between meals and actually find it difficult to do so, but I do often have a snack in the evening as I eat dinner pretty early. I try to space out my calories and use about 250 for breakfast, 400 for lunch and 550 for dinner. That's just the split that works best for me and of course there are days when it doesn't quite work out that way or I go to the gym so I have to try and eat more and that's where the evening snack comes in. Generally just a slice of peanut butter and toast or a milky drink or some cereal. If you're finding it difficult to make more meals higher in calories then try adding a small amount of cheese or an extra serving of protein.

Maybe put some milk on your cereal. That will add some calories and vitamins.

I second (or third) eating nuts.

I like 1 cup cottage cheese with 1/2 cup berries as a snack. It is just over 200 cals and super yummy.

Eating is hard for me. As someone who is a "feast or famine" type of eater, I totally understand the struggle

I have just started trying to eat my goal calories because eating way less wasn't working for me. It's been just a few weeks and I've not weighed myself yet, but I FEEL slimmer and my watch band is tighter and my "new" jeans are fitting loosely! It is totally crazy and weird for me, and seems opposite to what I thought I knew, but what I knew wasn't working, so doing it over and over was insanity by definition.

I looked at your diary, here are a few suggestions:

sprinkle in 8 walnuts to your cereal/yogurt/pudding/sauteed veggies (100 calories)
sprinkle in come Crasins to your cereal/pudding/veggies (90 calories) (dried fruit is densely caloric compared to fresh)
slice up a peach/mango/something and add it to your cereal. (90 calories)
have a slice of cheese on your Subway sandwich (100 calories)
sautee your veggies in extra virgin olive oil (1 tablespoon 120 calories)
add a few ounces of protein to what you already eat
add a scoop of protein powder to your pudding snack (varies 90-160 calories)
use real cream cheese instead of Laughing Cow (120 calories)

I bet that if you just make slightly different choices you can up your calories easily but still not eat a whole lot more (volume) of food.
  • Love the small non-edible rewards you allow yourself. Inspiring

The only thing is I do not drink milk (it makes me nauseated), I do not like yogurt (tried it and about puked), I love almonds but I am allergic to them. I do not like cottage cheese (yucko), I could add some chesse to my subs (great suggestion)!.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

What do you eat your cereal with if you dont take milk? Would soy milk or yoghurt be an alternative?

Is it just almonds, or all nuts that you don't eat?

There's a lot of processed ready-meals in there - could you try to introduce more home made meals at all?

I do not drink milk (makes me nauseated) and I do not eat cottage cheese (gross). I am a picky eater when it comes to dairy foods. I am allergic to almonds ( though I love them).

It looks like you're eating great foods and most days 100-200 calories is all you need to add. One tablespoon of peanut butter on a slice of whole wheat bread? One Greek yogurt? String cheese? 1/2 cup of granola? You might be able to add something to your smallest meal without feeling stuffed, or add it in as an extra snack.

    Non Dairy Snacks

    Celery sticks with Peanut Butter
    Graham Crackers with Peanut Butter
    Apple with Peanut Butter
Slice of Turkey (or any lunch meat) rolled in lettuce
    Hummus with Veggies
