Halo Top Competition
I just found a new reduced calorie ice cream that's even more amazing and ice-cream like than Halo Top. It's Chilly Cow. My local Walmart carries it. Comes in 1/2 pint single serving sizes, 2 containers in a package. 180 calories with 10g protein per 1/2 pint. The caramel browned butter is amazing! It's made with…

Can't get warm!
I've figured out that I backslide every winter because when I reduce calorie intake, I freeze! Freezing in an already freezing place is miserable. When I eat above maintenance, I'm fine. It's nearly 75 degrees in my office right now, and I keep getting up to do jumping jacks in attempt to warm up, but it's not working.…

Small victory...but a first for me!
I just returned from a benefit dinner, buffet style. Wine, beer, Croutons, Dinner Rolls, breaded chicken and fish, and potatoes, a huge dessert table, and a treat bag at each seat with caramel popcorn and chocolate. I'm proud to report that I ate a green salad, no croutons, mixed veggies (zucchini/squash/green bean…

Whoa! I'm blown away!
1 week in...very visible difference in my belly! Weight down some...I know it's a lot of water loss, but I'm amazed just how much water and bloat I had. It looks like 1 lost 5 lbs from my middle belly roll....judging by what it looked like the last time I lost weight starting from this size. That can't be mostly fat in…

trouble sleeping when in a deficit
Anyone experience trouble sleeping - both falling asleep and staying asleep - just when you're in a calorie deficit? I seem to be having that trouble. I do cardio 30-45 min. everyday, go to bed within the same half hour each evening, get up for work at the same time. Don't have a tv in the bedroom. Not going to bed hungry.…

Reality check about upswing in weight
Over the course of a year, I lost 50 lbs and hit the top of the "normal" weight BMI. I maintained for 6 months, was really happy with myself. Lost a couple more and hit a low of 142 in February. Today I hit 164 and couldn't get my pants over my hips. I've "restarted" getting back on track every day for more than the past…

Overboard on Watermelon?!
just discovered I eat several hundred calories of watermelon as a snack. For reference, my grandfather farmed watermelons - the real kind, that are 2 feet long with seeds, not the little round seedless ones. We grew up splitting one of those 4 ways. Considered it a healthy snack. Weighted out a portion today...talk about…

17 lb bounce back!
I lost 50 pounds over the course of 2015. In February I hit a low of 142. I just hit 159 again. It's disheartening, crossing that threshold of normal to overweight again, which falls around 150 for me. It's emotional eating again. My pants don't fit. Sigh. It's hard knowing I won't be able to enjoy summer at the healthy…

in what increments does your food scale measure weight?
My food scale measures in grams, but I noticed it can only measure in increments of 2 grams - it can't measure odd numbered grams. When I'm measuring 6 grams, for example butter, what's actually on the scale could be anywhere from 6 to 7.9 grams. Doesn't make a difference with low-cal items as much, but with high cal…

Never realized how abundant free treats were before!
My thinking with "treats" which for me means sweets/desserts was that I would have them in reasonable amounts by not making them or keeping them in the house, but partaking when something yummy was offered elsewhere. I don't eat out hardly ever, am not very social, and I work alone in an office, so no break room snacks…

Chewing gum effects
I'm not normally a gum chewer but I'm trying it to see if it helps pass the time and desire to snack between meals. Verdict: gum chewing makes me ravenous! It's like it's sending signals that food is coming, but never getting it is making cravings so much worse. Anyone else find gum chewing makes you hungrier?

confused about onion calories
Hey intelligent people, I can't seem to find a reliable USDA entry on raw yellow onions. Everything from 100g = 100 calories to 100g = 40 calories comes up. I think the latter entry is correct, but I want to double check. I wouldn't care if I was using one slice on a sandwich, but I need to know for sauteeing a huge pile…

+1 protein for breakfast experiment
I was never much of a breakfast eater. Happy with my cup of joe in the morning. I've been experimenting with breakfast now that lunch may or may happen at work (or it might be late, like 3pm). So for 6 months I did the traditional bowl of cereal (plain cheerios w/milk or cashew milk). Did not tide me over...starving by…

Cold Weather and over-eating
Just want to hear that I'm not alone on this: Have lost 50 lbs in the last year counting calories; I'm pretty good in the self-control department, but these recent arctic temperatures are making me feel like I have to eat more heartily to keep warm. I've been cold since losing the weight, and I deal with it - wool socks…

Holy Cow! Donut hole calories!
depending on brand/flavor, just learned there are between 50 and 100 calories in a SINGLE DONUT HOLE! Who eats just one or two? Jeez. No wonder...

mini goal: drop one pants size
I've decided not to look so much at goal weight, but at one milestone at a time. I would feel fantastic dropping one pants size. Don't know how many pounds that will take (probably around 10 more), but it will be something to celebrate. It'll give me joy and motivation to continue. Anyone else focusing on dropping just one…

Calorie allowance as a food budget
I'm a frugal person, and I just realized that calorie allowance = daily budget. You can buy foods with that budget - some are cheaper and some are more expensive. I always go for best value for my dollar, and I think thinking about spending calories like that will be helpful. Anyone else think about it that way: buying…

Never thought I'd be enjoying food more with less of it!
I've been realizing that by carefully paying attention to what I eat, I actually taste my food, and appreciate the flavors! I used to wolf stuff down and the only flavors you can appreciate that way is sugar and greasy flavors (that's why fast food is so addictive). I'm amazed at how good things taste when you eat veg and…
