Getting back into it - weightlifter wanting to cut
I’ve lost weight & gotten skinny successfully before but I’ve never done it in the context of lifting - I want to get ripped, show off muscles. Back to MFP! Currently maintaining a regular lifting program but wanting to cut at least 20 pounds to start. 6 foot three and 238 pounds currently. Interested in tips & advice

22 pounds since June
46 year old male here, six foot two and change. Was a successful MFP user before, went 'off the wagon' somewhat over the last couple years, needed to re-tighten the ship (particularly since my back problems have been getting bad again). Now back to 208 lbs, with daily cardio and light body weight excercises to maintain…

Not exactly new, but I'm back after a long hiatus
46, six-foot-two, male, got as low as 187 when I last did the MFP thing, but that was a number of years ago. Have regained 30 of it, and although I'm not unhappy with my current appearance, I've apparently gotten older and now I have some spinal arthritis issues that have been a problem for me - and I figure that getting…

Always set your activity level to "sedentary" when using an activity tracker?
I just started doing this. I don't know why I hadn't before - I just sort of thought that since I get up and walk around reasonably frequently at my job, I should call myself "lightly active" and leave it at that. But then I realized, my FitBit counts *all* my movement.... right? The downside is now I have less calories to…

I wish they made a high protein donut
I can handle the sugar, don't mind the calorie-bomb aspects, the problem is donuts screw with my macros. I wish I could get a good dose of protein along with my apple fritter / buttermilk bar fix. Anyone feel me on this?

Fitbit is tanking as a company (apparently) - will it be around in 2-4 years?
I really love my FitBit and I'll keep replacing it and updating it - but the stock has collapsed and apparently they are selling huge overstock on Amazon and other places now, at deep discounts. What do people think?

What's the best for bad backs? Focus on keeping weight low, or muscle / strength?
I've been hovering around the 190s, BMI in the high 24s for the last few months since I've basically halted my weight loss and gone on maintainence. I also have a bad spine. Have talked about it before. I have a fairly high propensity towards bulging discs and flareups in my neck and lower back. Years ago, when I weighed…

Interesting way that people excuse their overweight / obesity
I'm kind of interested in the way people explain their behavior. One example is pertinent to weight loss / diet. I was having a debate with my girlfriend about this, who was arguing what basically sounded like the set-point theory to me. The argument went something like this: Me: "I think anyone can lose weight, it's just…

Little experiment I did on myself
So I've been in a maintainence-ish state for the past several months or so, hanging out around the 23-24 BMI range (losing and regaining the same five pounds, lol). In this phase I've been in - my typical go-to breakfast has been either bacon and eggs with fruit, or, more typically, low-carb, high-fiber, high-protein…

Classifying food as "healthy" vs. "unhealthy": completely erroneous?
Great article at Reason magazine's website. Article basically takes a look at what happens when you take a long list of food items and then ask consumers on the one hand, and nutritionists on the other to classify the foods as "healthy" or "unhealthy." Bottom line - there's a ton of disagreement, and maybe the question…

So can you guess my body fat % from this pic?

Arthritis and fitness
I have basically what looks like premature arthritis, probably osteo (although not 100% sure) in both my shoulder and now my neck. I'm only 42!!! Sigh. Anyone else in the same boat? I used to love running and weightlifting, and now all I do is my recumbent bicycle and walking. Which is fine and works great - but doesn't…

What's your favorite kind of donut?
Maple glazed buttermilk bar for me.

Divorced guy support
I'm newly divorced (been separated for over two years now), happily about 40+ pounds lighter and I have a very lovely and nice girlfriend, a nice new place of my own, my kids 50% of the time. Life is OK, for the most part. However, being divorced still sucks sometimes. Just had stupid, pointless, and stressful email…

What *is* my protein goal, anyways? Help!
So, I had a recent cookie binge yesterday. Not a big deal, since my last significant binge (which was deliberate in the previous case - celebrating a friend's retirement) was months ago. However, I'd like to avoid those. I'm a daily exerciser - I run, bike, and walk for exercise, averaging probably an hour a day or more of…

First big binge of the year ughhh.... analysis / aftermath
.... last one was much more deliberate - I hit a steakhouse with a friend of mine who was celebrating her retirement (this was about four or five months ago) and I had a 14 ounce ribeye with a side of french fries, sourdough bread with butter, all the extras, plus an entire pan cookie for dessert. Went over by 3,000…

Overtrained yesterday, now I feel like crap today
About 6 months ago, pre back injury, I was able to run up to 10 miles at a time, and was looking ahead to run a half marathon. Had to take a break for several months (biked instead) due to back problems. Back issues are now done, but I think I'm really impatient. I ran for 7.5 miles yesterday, which is the most I'd done in…

FitBit Charge HR users - logging stationary biking?
So, I'll keep it simple - I have a Charge HR. I recognize because my arms don't swing when I stationary bike, the HR doesn't track steps, which means I probably need to log my exercise manually. So, even though I'm stating the obvious; what I've been doing is manually entering my exercise into MFP. Is this correct? Should…

.... as I get close to my goal.... this is kind of annoying
When I weighed more, in the 210s, 220s, and my deficit was set at 1.5 pounds loss per week, I had this fun thing I would do - I would have a modest breakfast, a big workout, a generally pretty small lunch, and then I'd have a nice deficit (typically in the 2K range if I worked it right) for dinner, which allowed me to have…

Weird habit I've developed in maintainence - anyone else do it?
.... I stockpile junk food. Mostly candy and cookies, but also things like Doritos, fried chicken, etc. Re. the candy, I have a spot on top of my refrigerator and it currently has three gourmet chocolate bars of different provenances, a basket of valentines candies of various kinds I just cant part with, a package of…

I've reached my "optimal weight" or is it just losing that last 5-10 pounds the hardest?
Stats are currently around 190, give or take. I'm a six-foot-two male, 42, I work out every day, usually walking and recumbent bike, have been getting back into running. Initial weight last year around May was 235. With the above stats my BMI right now is hovering around 24. So I found that losing the initial weight was…

Feel like I'm losing my nerve. I'm still logging, still exercising, but....
I have finally gained a pound. Yeah, I know, it's one freaking pound, who cares. I still have a normal BMI, I'm still fit as the proverbial fiddle, I work out every day and love it. But, I've been eating more. I've been saying "no" less often when tasty treats show up in the breakrooms. I've been baking more. I've even had…

Fitbit confusion
Yesterday I walked for 25 minutes, had a reasonably active day at work (lots of walking around the office). However, at the end of the day, MFP gave me an 800 calorie negative adjustment, and failed to credit me for my workout. So, I deleted the adjustment and manually logged the 20 minute walk. I'm bothered by this.

I feel compelled to log everything. Does anyone have "logging fatigue"?
It's funny. For the first time in my life I feel complete freedom to eat whatever I want. When I want a salad, I eat one. When I want chocolate peanut butter cup cheesecake brownies, I eat those. No more low-fat, low-carb, etc., etc. But the corollary is now I am scared if I don't log, I may gain again. I'm basically at…

Recumbent bike. Why didn't I do this before?
I had been running for the last several months. Yeah, I got pretty good at it and I could squeeze out a 7 minute mile, also did some 5K runs, did a few 10 milers. Then back problems hit. "Radiculitis" with sciatica symptoms. I've been told I should conservatively stop running and switch to swimming or biking, or, if I'm…

Help! Calories in 1 Bisquick waffle, egg whites + nonfat milk
I've been bedeviled in trying to figure out exactly how many calories are in a single Bisquick Belgian waffle, using nonfat milk and egg whites. On MFP, I've been seeing estimates that range from 200 per waffle all the way up to over 400. Can anyone help clarify? Appreciated.

Dx. with spondolysis and radiculopathy - running out for @ least 1-2 months, a little depressed
That's the story. My doctor said that if I wanted to be certain to not have back problems again, I needed to stop running and switch to walking, biking or swimming. He said if I wanted to go back to running, I have to wait 1-2 months (until symptoms resolve), and then get back into it slowly. He prescribed "zero gravity…

How to buy running shoes for a large-framed runner with lower back issues - advice please
So, prior to developing my recent back flareup, I was happily running probably around 30+ miles per week, about 2/3-3/4 of that on a cushioned treadmill. My back is already getting better, so I can see I'll probably be trying to (slowly) get back into running again soon. However, my shoes are really quite old. My…

Running and stenosis
I'm having stenosis symptoms that seem to be made worse by running. The symptoms were brought on by doing leg presses in the gym (have since stopped all lifting). But now running seems to make it worse, so I've stopped running for four days now. Which drives me a little batty. I've requested to see a physiatrist, which my…

Tried to make some low-carb, high protein waffles - made a disgusting mess instead
1 1/2 cups of almond flour 1/4 cup coconut flour 1/4 cup whey protein 1/4 cup splenda 2 cups nonfat milk 1/2 cup oil 1/4 cup egg whites baking powder salt Congealed mess, stuck to the waffle iron. Same result when I tried to make a pancake out of it. Doesn't hold together at all. Ended up whipping up a quick batch of…
