Running accountability and motivation. Show me yours.
With the continued lack of in-person racing, I’m struggling to keep mileage, run hard work outs, and include easy runs. So I need to hold myself accountable somewhere. I’d love to know what everyone else is doing. How are you training? What are you focusing on? What’s in your run future? INSPIRE ME PLZKTHNX. So yesterday I…

Virtual races? Training when there’s nothing to train for?
I.miss.racing. I know, grand scheme it isn’t a big deal but in my microcosm I just neeeeed it. I have one marathon on the schedule and I’m struggling to stay disciplined to train for it without my normal 5k/10k/half marathon docket beforehand. What virtual races are you doing? What’s worth the money? What else are you…

Wineglass marathon? Who’s done it
Signed up for the wineglass marathon in New York and making it a full 3 day thing...since all my other races are kaput for the year, might as well spend it all on one major race...right? Anyway, it’s marathon 2 for me and I’m going it alone this time. None of my run-crew wanted to chance it this year or dedicate training…

Hanson’s Marathon Method??? Anyone tried?
I’m thinking of trying Hanson’s method for marathon 2. I love the high volume, cumulative fatigues concept. I also love the idea of a 16 mile long run and such. I have a strong base- working back up to my 30-40 mile weeks and am not opposed to higher mileage. I have a half marathon in March and considering Pittsburgh in…

Flying Pig Marathon?

Treadmill vs track vs Asphalt re:running. Opinions!!!
I try not to run on back to back days, but as mileage increases for spring races, I find it can’t be helped. Getting 40-50 miles a week requires 4 or 5 days a week of running. I’ve been thinking of alternating surfaces- track, asphalt and treadmill. Do you see benefits to that? My intuition says it will avoid too much…

Running strategy re: becoming speedier
There is also this talk about 80% of your running being at zone 2, train slow/race fast, etc. I have a goal to get my my 5k to 24:00 and half marathon to 1:50-1:54 this March (5k pr is 26:02, current or is 2:02 and full is 4:35). Anyone see benefits to this type of training increasing speed? I’m of the belief that getting…

Garmin 235 for swimming?
Has anyone taken their Garmin 235 into the pool and it survived? It says it's waterproof but I am nervous. I would like to start tracking swims in an effort to maybe prep for a sprint tri.

BCAA, protein, other supplements?
Any benefit to BCAA for pre workouts? Any real benefit drinking for marathon training and weight lifting ? What BCAA drink do you recommend? Protein mix? Anything else? I take a B complex vitamin and loads of coffee...that's about it. I have done neither but I am feeling incredibly fatigued as my mileage ramps up, and I…

Marathon training and VO2 max
Morning, So I'm knee deep in marathon training now. My coachds are pushing the LISS runs and running at my long slow pace. I'm used to pushing it. I'm used to speed work. I miss it. More importantly, my VO2 max is decreasing. Have you found that upping your long term endurance decreases your VO2max? I don't want to lose my…

A question, Marine Corps Marathon and a race recap
I've been asking for a lot of advice about marathon training, etc. I officially signed up for the Marine Corps Marathon in DC with my area running club. I am beyond excited. Anyone else running that?? Also, I PRd my half marathon yesterday. I'm still on cloud 9 from it. 2:02:59 (official race time) The runners high was…

How do YOU fuel for marathon training?
Are you sensing a theme here? I am planning to train for my first full marathon (after this Saturday's half), but I am a little lost on how to fuel. I eat about 1,400-1,500 a day (1,800-2,000 on the weekend with long runs thrown in) and generally don't eat my exercise. (Can't out run the fork, etc.) I am a faithful…

Runners World Streak? Good, bad, ugly? Experiences of daily running?
I am participating in the RW virtual streak (run at least one mile everyday b/w now and July 4t). I'm really enjoying it. I feel good, no pains, my RHR is normal, not fatigued. Anyone done this and lived to tell? Did it mess up your endurance training? I have a half next week (2nd of season) and this will be my first…

Marathon training: how do you do it?
Bucket list goal is an ultra, but to get there I need to get a marathon or two under my belt. (I think I am 2 or 3 years from ultra status- at least- but man, oh, man does it sound fun!) How are you training for your marathons? Training for a half is easy enough, but the training plans I am researching have me doing weekly…

First rainy half marathon: what to pack? What to do?
Morning y'all, My 7th half marathon is this weekend. It.is.going.to.rain all weekend. It is mostly paved but a little off road. This is my first wash out race in 10 years of running. What should I pack that I don't normally? Should I even wear my running shoes to the start or wear other shoes to avoid soggy shoes as long…

Garmin use: treadmill vs outside? Advice? Who to trust?
I do a bulk of my training on a treadmill. Recently, I purchased a Garmin and have been using that to track runs etc. I have noticed that my Garmin does not match my treadmill speed. I average 9:22 on the treadmill (with a .5 to 3%incline). Garmin reads it as around a 10 minute pace. My perceived exertion is definitely the…

Lifting- time crunch question
I generally have only an hour in the a.m (maybe 75 minutes) to get my ish done. I like cardio, so that's an always thing. 15 minute HIIT to long, slow LISS runs. (Currently training for a few spring halfs). As far as lifting goes, I alternate upper, lower and core days. Would you do 3 sets of 10-12 reps or do you think 2…

Running the day after a long run???
I did 10 miles today, a lovely, runner's high-inducing 10. I felt like I could have gone more. I'm not sore at all. I want to do a shake out run tomorrow to see what it is like to run on tired legs. I've been googling to see what the pros say, but can't find concise answers suggestions. I've been running for years, but…

I was usually a 3 to 4 day a week runner, but Inwoukd like to jncrease my mileage. How many days a week do you run? What do your runs look like? Rest days? How many?
How many rest days do you take a week? Also, what do you count as "rest"? Like, yoga, for me, isn't a strenuous activity so I will do it on a rest day. However, is that rest? As training and mileage ramps up, I'm really trying t ok avoid injury, but I HATE stillness. My Type A neuroses need a way get out and that seems to…

3rd Whole30 and so.so.so thirsty

Less sugar equals less sleep???
As I have pretty much eradicated simple, refined sugar from my life, I have noticed I need much less sleep. Like 6 hours gives me as much as 10...anyone else experience this? Relates: did you find you got injured more with less sleep when training for endurance events?
