Unpopular opinions
What unpopular/controversial opinions do you have regarding fitness/exercise/food? No BS broscience, just things that other people find harsh/do not necessarily agree with. It's better if you can back these opinions up with some sort of decent argument. I'll start, I've got a couple I wholeheartedly believe. Unpopular…

Stop annoying push notifications
Does anyone know how to stop the push notifications of "you haven't logged your lunch today" etc. I'm tired of my phone going off 3x a day, I log intermittently as I'm maintaining I don't need to log constantly.

Long time user of MFP, but haven’t posted to the community in years.
Hello all - as the post title states, I have used MFP fairly consistently for a long time, but I was only a community member for a few months about 4 years ago. I am a Personal Trainer (NASM), an amateur Strongman (currently competing at a local level), and a full time student (Biology). I have 14 year history with…

Benign paroxismal positional vertigo
Does anyone here have any experience with this? First off, I'll start with: I've already been to the doctor, he ran some tests. Checked bloodwork, and said it is most likely BPPV and should resolve in a week or two. It first happened yesterday evening - I was at the gym, but I wasn't doing anything really, I was playing…

Education overhaul
Do you think that we would have less of an obesity problem in our society if our education system was overhauled to include mandatory cooking classes, nutritional science, exercise science, physical exercise (not the PE classes that exist nowbut military style PT, runs, calisthenics, lifting etc.) This is all part of the…

Motorcycles
What are some of your favorite motorcycles? What are your dream bikes? What do you currently own? All types of bikes welcome... For dirtbike, I own a '06 Honda CRF40R - though my dream dirtbike is a KTM 350 EXC-F. Street bikes, I don't own one, but I am very partial to naked bikes, especially the Ducati Monster.

Vanity sizing and clothing fit.
Does anyone get annoyed by vanity sizing? It's ridiculous, especially for men because our sizes are supposed to be actual measurements. Where I wear my pants is a 38-39, yet a lot of my pants are 36, I even have a pair of Levi's athletic fits in 34s. I also have a hard time finding clothes that fit in the shoulders and…

What training day do you hate the most?
Title says it all. Personally I loathe my accessory day. It's just tedious, and there's no big lifts that I find fun, no PR attempts...its just a slog. Shoulders day I get to play with a log Back day I get to deadlift and flip a massive tire Chest day I get to bench Leg day I get to squat, farmers walk, and push a sled.…

Let's talk about deadlifts
Deadlifts. The king of all lifts. All discussion welcome - your personal PRs, anyone Eddie Halls WR 500kilos that nearly killed him...whatever you want.

Are you the most active person you know?
The title says it all... I actually just realized this reading another thread. I have a couple cousins who lift and a few other family members out there that do active things but in my immediate family and social circle, I am by far the most active one. Curious how others on here stack up.

5ish minute read for motivation
https://www.oldtimestrongman.com/articles/the-iron-by-henry-rollins/ This is one of my favorite essays I've ever read. Forgot about it for a while until it came up in conversation yesterday. It always brought me motivation so I figured I'd share it here.

Underrated exercises
The title says it all...what form of exercise/lift/whatever do you think doesn't get enough love, and why? Mine would be farmers walks. They are the KING of functionality in my book. What is more useful for life than picking up weight and walking with it? They hit literally every muscle in the body, and build monster traps…

Water weight fluctuations
I wanted to post this for all the people out there who freak out about a few lbs on the scale. On Friday morning I was 229. I did my usual thing this weekend of just eating what I want and drinking beer. I was definitely in a surplus all 3 days by maybe 500 cals, balanced out by my deficit of 1000 cals Monday-Friday…

Log press help
Anyone in here who knows something about log pressing? I am absolute garbage at transferring my leg drive and my log is seriously lacking. I nailed 205 ONCE - most days I fail to go up but I can nail 180 multiple reps in a strict press, cleaned from the ground. I'm never going to get to BW+ levels unless I figure out the…

When is gearing up necessary?
Posted this over in fitness but no hits, probably would have been better in here. Anyways... I have pushed as far as I think I can completely raw...no shoes, no straps, no belt, no sleeves. No extra help but chalk. Unfortunately, I'm starting to think the gearing up is becoming necessary. I lost a 530 deadlift today right…

Reasonable bodyfat
Due to my last major depressive episode where I went from 205 to 300lbs in the span of about a year, I have some stretch marks/saggy skin. It's not bad, currently I'm 230 and most of the stretch marks are hidden by tattoos (that's just how it worked out)...the only really noticeable thing is I have a bit of a saggy…

At what point is gearing up necessary
I have pushed as far as I think I can completely raw...no shoes, no straps, no belt, no sleeves. No extra help but chalk. Unfortunately, I'm starting to think the gearing up is becoming necessary. I lost a 530 deadlift today right at the top because my grip failed. Almost happened last week with a 515 farmers walk too.…

Weekend sabotage
I love lifting/cycling, and eating for a goal. I literally have absolutely no problem running a 1000cal deficit Monday morming through Friday evening. I train almost every day unless I'm absolutely taxed, and on those days still I do some sort of active recovery. That said, I'm also a single guy who lives with other single…

Anyone else cutting?
Just coming on here for motivation and conversation. I'm back to tracking macros to cut down for an upcoming strongman comp, my first comp actually...Goal weight is sub 220 class, I'm currently fluctuating between 232-236 throughout the day. Over the last few years I went from 205 (fit) to 300 plus (fat and depressed) and…

How to deal with comments
I take the whole cutting weight/bodybuilding diet/hitting macros thing pretty seriously and I'm kinda known in my groups for having a cooler full of meals in my truck, eating at certain times, protien shakes etc (yes I know meal timing isn't important. I like it. That's all. That's my reason for it.) Anyways over…

Not sure where I fit in anymore.
I've made a TON of life changes over the course of the last year - part of it was getting my fitness back, to a level I'm happy with, part of it has been going a step further and caring about my physical/mental/emotional health. Pretty much everything has changed. I have a good idea of the direction I want my career to go…

Breatherarianism...what in the actual *kitten*
I came across this in my internetting the other day. After some research, it seems like there are actual people in this world who think humans can live off air and light. Like a plant. Except plants need water. So, like a rock I guess except rocks aren't living. Seriously?

Your "enough is enough" moment
What was your enough is enough moment that finally put you on (or back on) the path to fitness? Mine was 2 moments combined within about 3 weeks of each other. First, was snowboarding with my brother. 7 runs in one day about destroyed my legs. When i was fit I used to be able to do 20+ runs a day for 3-4 days in a row…

No intimidation "gyms"
Recently found out this is a thing beyond the obvious Planet Fitness. I think this is a completely BS thing. I will admit it is a genius business model (Keep membership costs so low people will keep it even if they don't use it, discourage the culture of people who will put wear and tear on your equipment, and could…

Rucking
Anyone here do it? I just got done doing one for the first time in ages, nothing crazy long or 90lbs or anything (gotta let those joints re-adapt), but it felt really good.

Quotes that make you want to eat glass and kick things
I'm in a pretty fire eating mood today, so I figured I'd share some of my favorite inspirational quotes that really have helped me get back to being fit, things i once knew and found again over the past 8 months. "Motivation is fleeting and fickle. Dedication, discipline, and habits are what get *kitten* done." "No man has…

Someone said I am "pushing myself" and I find that sad
This is really just a rant, but something I wanted to discuss too. I was talking to a friend about a health issue I've been experiencing (vertigo, I made a thread on it...that's not what this is about though) and he said "may be you're pushing yourself too hard" Holy *kitten* did I get fired up. Offended almost, and not a…

Your best
What is your current "best" exercise. IE what are you disproportionately good at compared to other stuff? It can be anything, a mile time, a bench press, whatever. For me, there's two and they kind of tie together: Deadlift and farmers walks. My dead is currently 475 and my farmers are at 355 or 365 (I'm not exactly sure…

Odd points about food
My roomate likes to rib me about some of my food choices like he calls almond milk DILK (dog milk). He's not the most open minded about food (what meat eater says no to a free bison steak? That stuffs like 44 bucks a lb) - it's all in good fun though. Anyways, I recently started firing back and I've been pulling some…

Keeping yourself in check
Do you have anything you tell yourself to keep yourself in check/on a realistic level? For instance, anytime I think I'm dumb, I remind myself there are people who think the earth is flat. Anytime I think I am smart, I remind myself that I have set myself on fire. Any time I think I am strong or big or whatever, I remind…
