how do you log rebounding (trampoline)?
i just got a new pilates machine with a rebounder attachment. it kept my heart rate at the same rate as a moderate bike ride, but when i went to log it, there was nothing listed under rebound, rebounder or trampoline. i know i can create an entry, but i wondered what others here who rebound are logging it is.

my main birthday present - i can't wait
my birthday isn't till the 23rd, so i don't get it till then, but yesterday the holbein artist watercolor paints my husband will be giving me arrived. i picked the 14 colors, as none of the sets are what i was looking for, and i didn't want to double up on colors i had, so these are going to make for my perfect holbein…

what do you call this exercise?
i hooked up a harness to my cable tower, put the weight on 60, and tried walking forward as if i were pulling a sled. turns out that at 60 pounds, walking hard i stayed right were i was, and after basically walking against the weight without moving for 10 minutes, my hamstrings, muscles around my knees and my quads were…

small improvements really do add up - fitness edition
a few years ago, injury and reinjury kept me from most exercise. when i had slight improvements, i'd have pain, swelling and other issues. but over the last few years, i went from walking to riding an exercise bike on low resistance - just a few minutes, then a couple more. my resting heart rate got lower. my legs slowly…

home treadmills hurt my knees - any ideas as to why?
i've owned a number of treadmills throughout my adult life, and every one of them caused me knee pain while walking does not and gym treadmills do not. all but one of the treadmills were folding - we just don't have the room for one without that. i'm careful not to drag the belt faster when i walk, and this just drives me…

women over 40 - your at-home gear and workouts
i'm a 66 year old female. over time, i found i preferred working out at home. since then, we've had a variety of exercise equipment come and go. right now, i get a nice workout with a semi-recumbent bike, an upright bike, our really awesome cable machine, 2 benches (a flat bench and a rep AB-4200 adjustable), some weights…

different flavors of the same food
i use more than one flavor of some stuff - think protein bars and muscle feast protein powder, for example - in multiple flavors. since each flavor has the same nutritional info, i log 'em all the same. any flavor of muscle feast get logged as vanilla, and any flavor of think bars with the same calories gets logged as…

homemade protein bar... close, but...
i've been experimenting with making my own protein bars, brownies and cookies with very low fat and 200 calories or less per bar. today, i tried adding some corn fiber to help it hold together, used a little almond flour, protein powder, egg white, calorie free chocolate syrup, baking powder and yogurt and just a little…

you can't eat like you've always eaten and keep the weight off
almost everyone i know who lost weight (including me earlier in life) thought of weight loss as a temporary thing. everyone i know personally dieted to lose weight, then went right back to the same family dinners and breakfasts, work friend lunches, TV snacking that put extra weight on them in the first place, and not…

a different kind of success - resting heart rate
a year ago, my resting heart rate was 78, and i've been spending a lot of time since then doing light cardio and have lost about 20 pounds in that time. and today, my resting heart rate is 66, so all that hard work is paying off :)

calories burned varies more than you might think
so i use a fitbit to count steps, an older polar to track heart rate, and i log in MFP plus i've used map my fitness and some other apps, as well. no two of these give the same calories burned for the same exercise, heart rate and duration. but wait - there's more! when i was in worse condition, i burned a lot more…

i LOVE my cable tower!
my husband and i have owned a lot of different fitness gear, mostly because i've been working around some injuries. we had a plate-loaded valor fitness BD-62 cable machine, and it was pretty good, but the plates were a pain in the butt, and the machine wasn't as steady as i'd like. i really liked the format, as we really…

looking for a fitness app for indoor workouts
i do use a heart rate monitor - either a polar or a wahoo - and i'd like to find an app with all the normal indoor workouts built in (treadmill with incline, exercise bike, step aerobics and stair machine/ walking upstairs). all my workouts are indoors, so an app that focuses on GPS isn't ideal unless it works well for…

walking can make more of a difference than you think
i am currently 144 pounds, but in 2015, i reached the same weight. the difference is in 2015, i had lot more muscle in my legs, which you could see when i wore shorts, and a lot less fat left on my belly, hips and elsewhere. so what happened? during the pandemic, i did my best to keep up my exercise cycling (at low…

how did you decide on your goal weight?
i have an unusual goal weight for my height. at 5' 4", i'm shooting for 140, which is pretty heavy for my height. but my main goals are to build muscle and get my blood sugar down to normal all the time (type 2, been hovering between 96 and 119 fasting recently). i used to be quite muscular for a woman, and even though i'm…

blood sugar normal without meds!
in 2006, i was the heaviest i've ever been 242 at 5'4". that's when i discovered i had developed type 2 diabetes - my A1c was just under 12 :( i changed things up. i lost 60 pounds substituting lower calorie/low or sugar-free versions of many foods i ate, and i took short walks 3x a day. then i found MFP, and in 2014, i…

can someone recommend an accurate and reliable bathroom scale?
my current scale is driving me crazy. yesterday i weighed myself, then had a hot, sweaty 36 minute exercise bike ride, did not eat or drink anything, used the bathroom, and was a pound heavier than i was before riding and peeing. this happens a lot with my current scale - i can get on it 3 or 4 times in a row, get the…

a month without logging and eating more...
due to a variety of factors including injury, lack of sleep and so on, a month ago i stopped exercising and started having minor binges and as far as i can tell, went over on my calories every day. for reference, i'm 5' 4", and to lose half a pound a week, i am supposed to eat just 1250 calories per day, and i usually eat…

calorie claims for packaged foods
do you ever wonder about calorie claims for some foods. i started to wonder years ago, after one of my regular items (a salad dressing) was reported by several people found by the FDA to be listing much lower calories per serving than it actually had. i mention this now because for the past few weeks, i've been eating a…

what IS an acountability friend?
i've been with MFP for almost 10 years (my old account doesn't work, so i now use this account), and while i've had friends here in all that time, what is an "accountability friend"? i don't feel like i need someone else to hold me accountable, although i do enjoy swapping likes, reading each others posts, and so on. maybe…

protein bar recipes wanted - no peanut butter, dates, apple sauce
i'm looking to replace quest bars in my diet, but i'm fine using protein powder (i use muscle feast) in the bars. i want the bars to be 200 calories or under, 20 grams of protein or a little over, 200 mg of salt or under. i need no fruit (that means no banana, dates or apple sauce), no maple syrup or anything with sugars…

common weight loss misconceptions (warning - looong post)
there are some misconceptions about losing weight that i see on new posts here very frequently. i'm no health professional or fitness expert, but i'd like to address some of them. * eating healthier helps you lose weight. eating healthier foods doesn't automatically lead to weight loss. it can lead to no weight loss at…

basic fitness tracker - fitbit or ???
i've been using fitbits since 2014. i loved my first two, a fitbit one (wish they still made that!) and a zip, but the four after that have all had issues; btw, those 4 were 2 altas and 2 inspires, one of which worked fine for 20 months and since has had major issues like going through multiple hour periods where it…

good app to use with heartrate chest monitor
i'm exercising primarily on exercise bikes, so i'm looking for an app recommendation that will store heartrate, give me an alarm if i go over, and all that good stuff. the apps i used to use tracked distance or steps, so i need something more appropriate for my current, non-stepping exercise.
