Long way to go, but 45 pounds down! (Pics, I hope!)
Hi all! I have been an MFP member for years. I have been in an evil cycle: Lose 20 pounds, get frustrated, gain all back + a few, repeat. Before I knew it, I was close to 300 pounds. I am 36 years old. You'd never know I was a skinny cheerleader in high school. I won't go into all of the reasons why I gained the weight,…

Appropriate for someone with A LOT of weight to lose?
Hi! So I've been doing the low cal thing, and I am always hungry and struggle to stay close to the allowed amount. And it's not working. Is the EM2WL thing working for anyone else who has to lose 100+ pounds? I read on another site that obese people should only do the low cal thing. Just curious if this has worked for…

Jerky Question
Hi! So I am considering buying some type of jerky for the first time. I need a quick, protein snack that I can eat between classes. Any recommendations? I am not familiar with brands or even where to find it in the store. Beef? Turkey? Don't they come with different flavors? If you're a fan of jerky, let me know what you…

I know you're not a doctor, but....
I have this strange pain in my left foot. I guess it's my ankle, but it's on the front/top, not the side. It only hurts when I flex or point my foot. It started last Monday, but has gotten a lot better the past two days. I have an appointment to see a doctor tomorrow. I have really gotten in to working out the past month.…

Kashi question
So I've been trying to eliminate processed foods from my diet. In Jillian Michael's book Mastering Your Metabolism, she gives a small list of brands of processed foods that are "OK" if you must eat something processed. One of the OK brands is Kashi. So I bought some of their bars yesterday which are quite tastey. But the…

My Trainer Made Me Do It
Some of you may know that I recently started working out with a trainer. She is amazing, and I am so loving it. I wanted to post what she made me do today. Fot those of you who are beginners like me, it may give you some ideas. There were five stations: 1. Straddle steps using a step (like from a step aerobics class) You…

First session with personal trainer
So I realized that I cannot do this alone, so I signed up for a personal trainer. I know her because her children go to the school I teach at. I figured I'd be more accountable that way. When I run into her at school, I don't want to feel bad that I slacked off or didn't meet my commitment. So anyway, she was so nice and…

Perplexed and frustrated
OK, first let me tell you that I am a weight loss veteran. I have tried every "diet" in the book in the past 10 years: WW, Atkins, South Beach, Jenny Craig, even a doctor supervised one WITH drugs. I always lose 10-20 pounds and then give up. The weight just stops coming off or I get too "busy." I always gain back the…

Shout out to my new fave restaurant-Seasons 52
I had dinner tonight with an old friend at this place called Seasons 52. (52 because there are 52 weeks in a year.) They change their menu seasonally, and offer locally grown, oraganic, natural foods. It was so yummy! Nothing on the menu is over 475 calories....like the entire meal. They have a vegan and gluten free menu…

Salmon-Wild vs. Farmed?
I keep hearing you should eat wild instead of farmed. Why? I think it has something to do with the fats? How is that possible? I bought wild last time and did not like the way it tasted nearly as much. Is it really significantly better for you nutrion wise? Thanks for any help you can give!

pasta-weigh before or after cooked
Last night I made pasta. I weighed it before I cooked it on my handy-dandy new digital scale. I had exactly two ounces and cooked it. I weighed it after and it was almost 3 ounces. Should I have eaten the whole amount that was 2 ounces before or eaten just 2 ounces of the cooked amount? I am so confused....

Confessions of a gymaphobe
So, I have a membership to a really nice gym. I've had it for a year. I've been four times--3 times last summer and once this past week. I really want to get in there, use the weights, take the classes, swim in the pool. But I am so scared and intimidated. 10 years ago, I was in the gym all the time taking all the classes…

eating after midnight...calories today or tomorrow?
Hi! So hubby and I are going to midnight showing of Harry Potter tonight. I've saved calories today so that I can eat popcorn and have some soda. But it just occured to me that I'll be eating between 12:00 and 1:00 AM. Should I count the calories today or tomorrow? Does it matter? And oh, I am having that popcorn no matter…
