women who lift heavy - how did you start?
i really want to do some proper weightlifting but don't know where or how to start. I go to bootcamps and enjoy bodyweight workouts and lifting kettlebells (8kg) and dumb bells (4kg each) but they don't progress from those weights at bootcamp. Would love to hear some of your journeys of how you started, where you train, if…

C25K with plantar fasciitis?
Hi Has anyone done C25K despite having plantar problems? I'd really like to do it, but my plantar which is currently feeling fine, seems to flare up if I even do a few jumping jacks. I miss that cardio buzz and energy. Currently doing 3-4 bootcamps a week but all modified with no jumping or running. Also walk 3-4 times a…

how do I log my weight loss on here please?
I looked online and it said go into goals and then click on 'starting weight' at top of screen, but I can't find anything that looks like that on my goals page. Nothing about weight at all, just nutrition and exercise. MFP thinks I am 4lbs heavier than I am and I'd like to reset. I'm on a laptop btw, so not the phone app,…

Craving protein since working out regularly - is this a thing?
I have always preferred complex carbs to protein and have happily eaten veggie food. But since upping my workouts to five a week I now really crave protein especially dairy and eggs. And if I have two veggie days in a row I get an overwhelming urge to eat meat. Is this linked to the workouts? I'm late fifties so also…

Never Again :(
The temperature in the UK is hotter than Jamaica today. Some friends invited me to go wild swimming with them. That's something i have always wanted to do. It's even high up on my bucket list. But I said no. Pretended I had to work. Because they are all very slim and health conscious and I am borderline obese. It has…

30lbs in 30 weeks starting today - join me!
Hi I'm a 56 yr old woman living on the outskirts of London UK, looking for some buddies committed to a weight loss of 1lb a week, with about 30lb to lose, so we can go on the journey together. have finally started to take control of my fitness and am doing four good weights and circuits workouts a week. On week 3 of this…

staying motivated in a house of snackers
My husband buys loads of sweet and savoury snacks for himself and our teenagers each week. I've suggested cutting down - it's not good for them, but he just leaves it a few days they buys as normal. No one else is overweight in our home. I find it hard to resist the bad stuff when it's always there but I know I must. Any…

How do I adjust my calorie intake on MFP?
The MFP calculator has set me at 1200cals per day. But I've discovered I lose weight better at 1400 (no idea why). I'd love to reset as it's a bit demoralising to keep getting the message that I'm over my goal. Is it possible to over-ride it and reset calorie goals?

Why are the last few pounds the hardest?
I've been reading some success stories to keep motivated and so many people say the last few pounds are the hardest to lose. Why is this?

Is there a way to save or bookmark discussions you've joined in so it's easy to find them later?
Hi I'm fairly new here. I know there's a section for discussions I've started so it's easy to find if anyone has added to them, but is there something similar for threads you contribute to, started by other people? There are a couple of chats I was really enjoying but now can't find and am not even sure what section they…

every pound makes a difference
I just started to do this seriously 3 weeks ago. I've lost 2.5lbs so far - not a lot, as I'm taking it slowly and eating back exercise calories. But I did actually notice a difference in yoga from one week to the next. Whatever I'd lost must have gone from my stomach because I could actually breathe in plough position! The…

End of week 1 - may not sound much but...
I haven't completed an entire week of weight-loss eating since my twenties and I'm now 55! I thought I lacked the self-discipline, so I am counting this as a mini-milestone. Not sure if I've lost any weight yet as my scales are too unreliable to tell. But I know I have drastically reduced my intake, cut out snacks, all…

weight fluctuations - can't make sense of them
I started a weight loss programme only last week, so I know there's no chance of a trend yet. But I thought my scales were broken as my weight fluctuated by about 10lbs (mainly apparently gaining during the week, when I was definitely eating far far less than normal. So I bought new scales and weighed myself. Since…

can anyone advise on sodium levels please?
I have low blood pressure and in the past excess water intake has led to me feeling really ill, dizzy and faint. After a serious scare with it, I realised and I have added salt to food ever since. I love salty foods and probably eat too much of it. I want to cut down now, especially since I think I carry a lot of water…

any empty-nesters with 30+lbs to lose want to form a small motivation group?
Hi I'd love to form a small motivation group with others in a similar situation. After 18 years of raising children and working and keeping house, I am finally looking after myself and shedding the weight that has crept on. I am 55, live in UK, in a leafy village just outside London. I'm the mother of two boys who are both…

does a short term rapid weight loss plan help with motivation?
Hi, I am feeling really demoralised about my weight. A friend sent me a photo of the two of us together and I was literally twice her size. I looked like a walrus that might eat her. I am 'only' 15lb over a healthy BMI weight and 30lb in total over my healthy weight which I maintained for years without dieting. But a very…

what is the most reliable brand of bathroom scales (UK)?I
I have the Salter speedo ones which you'd think should be accurate, because they are supposed to be a good brand, but it's so hard to zero them. They're mechanical, not electronic. If I zero them, step on then off again the zero marker has shifted by about four pounds. Depending on where I stand on the scales, my weight…

deep pain in joints after exercise - any solutions?
I'm 2st overweight and in my early fifties. Just started a fitness regime after being a real couch potato. I'm loving the running and walking, but get really deep, strong pains in my joints, especially knees and hips. My ankles and calves just have that nice ache of being exercised and feeling like they'll get stronger.…

Great discovery on taking it slowly
I've just started (again) and posted asking about how people cope with the weakness and dizziness that accompanies weight loss, which always makes me give up. I was amazed when lots of people said they had never had this experience. It made me realise I was doing it wrong, and should try for a steadier weight loss of just…

how do you handle feeling weak and dizzy on weight loss programme?
This is always my stumbling block and has me reaching for the sugar or carbs. I hate that feeling but realise it's going to happen so need to have a handful of tricks up my sleeve for handling it. Did a short kettlebell workout this morning, then desk work and some very light housework. Then went for a walk this afternoon.…

Is this a good kettle bell workout for a beginner?
Hi I'm getting back on track with fitness and have a kettlebell. I love this 10 min workout to start the day buzzing. But I know there are so many dos and don'ts with kettlebells. Is this one OK? I've watched her how to swing the bell video too. The plan is to do this for a week and then move on to something a bit more…

Serotonin Diet? Losing weight on Ads
Hi I'd love to meet anyone who is following the Serotonin diet or a similar regime, for weight loss specifically linked to gains from AD medication. Having been a healthy weight all my life until about 10 years ago when I started taking ADs permanently, my weight's crept up and up each year until I'm now 30lbs overweight.…

if you have home gym equipment, where is it?
Hi, I'm on a mission to help my family get fit too. DH and two boys would love gym equipment (rowing machine, static bike and weights) but I don't know where to put them. DSs say they'd ride stationary bike while watching TV but that would make our living room look a bit... weird? There's space in the kitchen for one…

Hi Anyone around age 50 with 10-30lbs to lose care to join me? I'm 154lbs and want to be 130 or less. Not really enjoyed turning 50. I feel fat and invisible. Time to turn this around! Suggestions wanted for working out with two unsporty teenage boys!
Hi I really want to get my boys into fitness. They are not sporty. (Nor is my DH though getting him involved is a project too far ;) ) We go for a walk every weekend for a couple of hours and that's it. Apart from school games and PE that's all they do. One loves rugby but can only play it in season, and used to love…

How can I increase my energy/stamina please?
Hi, Really hoping some of the super fit and nutrition wise people here can help. I'm 50 and about 15lbs overweight. (5lbs according to top weight recommended BMI, but 15 according to how I feel and look.) My ongoing problem is lack of physical stamina. I took up running about a year ago, which I LOVE and went from C25K to…

should I exercise every day?
I've read that you should have a couple of days off each week, if you run and do bootcamp style workouts. But my day job is desk based from home, so on a normal day if I don't exercise, the most I do is climb a few flights of stairs up and down in the house, and go for a 30 min walk with a friend and her dog. That's not…
