Tattoos and Exercise
After running two marathons last fall, I decided to celebrate with a tattoo. After thinking long and hard about it, I designed one and had it done yesterday on my leg/ankle. I love it (as you can see in my photo.) I've been walking and standing around quite a bit today. Its pretty tender and sore right now, which I am sure…

What to do with Roasted Chicken
Long story short, I received a free roasted chicken. I had 1/4th of it tonight with a baked sweet potato. It was delicious, of course, but I am trying to think of other ways or sides to eat with it for the next several nights so it doesn't seem so stale. Ideas?

Back to Basics: Recovering from Injury & Holidays
Last year I ran my first marathon... And after having so much fun, I ran another one 7 weeks after that. They were great tests and showed me how awesome my body was after hating it for years. After a few 3 mile runs after the second marathon, I discovered my feet hurt after bending the arch to take a step. Went to a sports…

Budget Friendly Paleo
A friend of mine jumped onto the paleo train a week ago, and everything she eats so delicious over Facebook. I, a fresh out of college worker, drool at any steak posted online. Of course, being just out of college and at my first job means I don't make a whole lot. I try to keep my food budget around $50 a week; it looks…

Marathon Question - Throw Away Clothes & Pin Numbers
So I am running a marathon today. Right now it is 30 degrees, and will not warm up until 11am. I have a throw away sweater I bought yesterday, but was curious... Do I need to pin my numbers on that, and move it to my bottom layer once I decide to throw it off? Or can it stay on the bottom race shirt for ease?

GRE Questions
Question for anyone who has taken it. How long did you take to prepare for your GRE? I am currently studying up on it using the ETS published book, as both programs I am interested in require taking it. I'd love to get a higher school for scholarships and whatnot. What all did you use to prepare for the test?

Breakfast and Running Speed Work
Every Wednesday has been my speed work day. Generally I have been eating breakfast (oatmeal and coffee) 2 hours beforehand and then gone out and work for about 40-50 minutes on the track with Yassos (800m sprints, aiming for around 3:20-3:30 each time.) With summer here full force, I have been wanting to get out earlier to…

Absence Before Marriage
What people's thoughts were about abstinence from sex before marriage? Would you not date someone who pledged that life style? Too old fashioned? Or would you feel like that was an admirable thing to do? Our culture is different then it use to be around that topic, but since no one seems to talk about abstaining from it, I…

Longer distance running with pre-breakfast or not?
It's summer time, meaning it's becoming more and more humid out. The best running time for myself is in the morning before I need to be at work. Tomorrow I plan to start my 6 mile run at 6am. Whereas I know I can take an easy 3 mile run without breakfast, I am not sure how well I will hold up to 6 miles. What are other…

Running a marathon 7 weeks after previous training
Long story short, I am running two marathons this year. I signed up for one the first weekend of September, then signed up for the other not realizing how close they were. I am sure I can do it; I have great stamina and am in top shape. Training wise however I am a little clueless as to how to proceed after the first one?…

Easy and Healthy Work Lunch Ideas
As much as I love peanut butter, I have been eating peanut butter sandwiches at work for about 3 months straight at work. I have been looking for healthy and easy lunches that are filling online, but wanted to see what people here at MFP bring. Easy, healthy, and somewhat inexpensive lunch ideas?

Circuit Weight Training: Effective or Not?
A few months ago back when I was still in college, I had been doing weight training 2x a week while running the other 3. Now that I am out on my own, I have kept up the running and even added on another day. Meanwhile, strength training has taken a backset. I am trying to get back into it with team sports coming up, but…

What happened???
Due to my recovery process from an eating disorder, I do not own a weight scale at my own apartment. I am an active person, and run 4-5 times a week (5+ miles a day) and starting to squeeze circuit weights in there as well. I stick to my diary, and always log what I eat. This morning I happened to wake up at my parents,…

Strength + Agility Building recommendations
This summer I am going to be apart of a sports tournament that includes running long distances, tackling, and being able to pivot quickly. I am an experienced runner and can go for long distances but need to work on the other two as well as aiming throws. I have done free-weight training in the past, but am not sure if…

How to Be Patient?
Whenever I've wanted something in life, I've worked hard to get it. I put everything I have into it and make it happen. College, projects, work... If I am not happy with life, I change it. If I want to run faster, I push myself. I have control. I have known the man of topic for 9 months. At first we were co-workers, and…

XBox 360 owners, need your opinion
I have finally saved up money to buy myself my very own Xbox360. No longer will I have to go over to my guy friends' houses to play my games. Now I need to figure out which to get. There's the 4GB, and the 250GB version. My question is, how much space do games actually take up? I see myself playing games like Tomb Raider,…

Runner + Foot Injury = where to go from here
So I've been a 3-4 x a week runner for the past year. This past Thursday I fell down some stairs and twisted my foot. That night there was not much in the way a movement. That night was the first time in a long while I had felt that much pain in my foot. The next day was a bit better, still hurt and had a limp... Which…

Substituting Fresh for Dry Mushrooms in Soup?
I have 5 oz of fresh mushrooms that I want to use for this recipe of soup... However, it asks for 5 oz of dried mushrooms. Instead of drying them and then boiling them for the soup, can I just use them as is? Do you think it would change the taste any? Here is the recipe: Shiitake Shoyu Ramen Serves 4 For the broth 1 5-oz…

Is this fat?
So long story short, I've been battling an eating disorder for several years. It's gotten better, but it's still around. Like as of late, I have been looking at my graduation pictures and can't help but cringe when I see creases in my skin, like so:…

Different Weight-Lifting Routines
For the past several months I have been running. I love it. It gets me going, and I keep going. I understand the benefits of weight-lifting, but spending 1 and a half hours in the gym two times a week to lift dumbbells and barbells is becoming a chore. I have been following Kara Goucher's plan, and while I am sure it is…

Increased Speed Running plan - Know one?
As of right now, I can easily run 3 miles in under 28 minutes. On Thanksgiving, I am running a 5k with a friend and would like to improve my speed (especially if I can get it under 20-25 minutes.) I have been searching google, am not sure what works well and is free (as a poor college student, I don't have much money to…

Changing work out routine
I had been following The New Rules of Lifting for Women since January, and stopped in May when I got a free three month trial to a Crossfit-like program. I no longer have that, and currently do not have money to buy a Crossfit membership. However, for around a month I have tried getting back onto NRoLW and have found…

Enlisting... with Bachelor's?
This December I will be graduating with my Bachelor's in Arts Technology (web/graphic design, video production, etc.) Whereas I am happy to receive my degree, I am not sure about settling down with a career in a town. Lately I have been following The New Rules of Lifting for Women (great book if you're looking into getting into strength training.) Women and Make Up Question
To my fellow women, I have grown up in a home full of boys and a mother who not once do I remember wear make up. I am going to a career fair soon, and would like to wear eye liner and some simple make up items to enhance features (nothing to over due it.) Any ideas on where to go to learn? What products to look into?

Progress (February - June)
This February I started the "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" program, and have been pushing through. The past month I've switched over to a CrossFit program. Protein Powder
I have been doing rigorous exercises at my gym within the last several weeks that can be compared to CrossFit.
