Runner + Foot Injury = where to go from here

So I've been a 3-4 x a week runner for the past year. This past Thursday I fell down some stairs and twisted my foot. That night there was not much in the way a movement. That night was the first time in a long while I had felt that much pain in my foot. The next day was a bit better, still hurt and had a limp...
Which gets us to today, 5 nights later. I have a dog, and have been walking him. At first when we begin, I feel fine but after about a mile my joints begin to get a bit sore. There's no limp though.
Does this mean I can't look forwards to start running again soon? What are some ideas to get the ball rolling here? It feels like it's been longer then less of a week since I last ran, but at the same time I hate to ruin future chances to run by pushing the envelope too far.

Try easing in to it with a gentle, short run, and evaluate from there. The general rule is, if it changes your gait, stop at once.
But remember, nobody here can diagnose you. You could have a sore muscle or tendon that will be fine after a few days of elevation and icing, or you could have a more serious strain, sprain, or fracture. Serious pain or gait-changing injury should be seen to by a professional.
Best of luck with it!0
