Breakfast and Running Speed Work

Every Wednesday has been my speed work day. Generally I have been eating breakfast (oatmeal and coffee) 2 hours beforehand and then gone out and work for about 40-50 minutes on the track with Yassos (800m sprints, aiming for around 3:20-3:30 each time.) With summer here full force, I have been wanting to get out earlier to avoid the heat and humidity, but also not sure if I necessarily want to wake up at 5am just to eat breakfast beforehand.
I don't eat anything mornings I run easy (anything under an hour,) but speed work is also a different beast. Any experienced runners feel like eating a good meal before speed work is a must or otherwise?
