Just ran 10k on treadmill
I have been training for a 10k Today I managed to run for 10k without stopping. Speed was slow but it was my easy run day and I thought I would push it. time was about 72mins. At least I now know I have enough gas in the tank to complete it. It's an interesting way to burn over 1000cals I have 7 weeks to improve my time…

Perth Kilt Run
I took part in the Perth Kilt run at the weekend. I was just wondering if anyone else managed this? I did it in 30mins but it's my first run of the year so I can't complain. Here is a youtube video for those interested in watching the start http://youtu.be/NOD05uxw8pQ

Another running injury. Can I cross train?
So After pulling my adductor about 8 weeks ago and recovering I have got another injury. I now have a muscle strain in my back, just below my shoulder blades. What is it with running that I keep getting these type of injuries????? I guess it's because I am increasing my speed and moving my arms more. Could my HRM strap be…

First 5k - outside!
Just ran my first 5k event. It was the Parkrun at Strathclyde Park. For a treadmill runner, not having any idea of the pace was hard. I used my HRM to provide feedback on how hard I was working. I kept my rate about 161-163 for the race. I can't say I enjoyed it but for the first time running I had about 5 mins where I was…

Charity running vest arrived
My SSPCA charity running vest arrived today. (It's a medium and fits). I have a small problem. Living in Scotland I have a tan less than a vampire. I have lost over a stone through diet changes but my upper body is just not toned. I've just had a huge stress moment. I can't wear it. I just feel WRONG. I feel like Rab C…

Just been told I am too thin
I was at a business meeting today and was told I was too skinny. :noway: I am about a BMI of 24.8-25.0 so on one scale I am at the high end of healthy. I don't want to go down the whole body size debate but why would someone say that? :frown: I'm training for a 10k run and would like to drop another few pounds and the…

1st appointment with physio
I have had an on-going injury since coming back to running. I now have my first appointment booked with a physio organised through my doctor. Just thought I would ask on here what this normaly involves. Do they bend you untill you hurt of just poke about a bit and tell you to rest for 2 weeks. Anyone with experience in…

Just ran 4 miles non-stop
Just done my longest run EVER without stopping. Managed 4 miles in 46min (and hit the 5k in36 mins). I'm doing the bridge to 10k program and threw in a longer 45 min run just to see how it went and to mix up the interval training. I think I could have pushed on but I have had an injusry and don't want to push it. I think…

New Shoes
Got new running shoes today. Actually the first pair of proper running shoes I have owned  I had my run video taped on a treadmill and tried on different shoes. I have been using normal "gym" shoes the last month and this has probably agrivated the small injuries I have, Paid a bit extra to get it from the shop…

Running advice needed for increasing distance
I have been running for a couple of weeks now and I can now do 30mins without stopping. This only seems to equate to 2.5-2.8 miles depending on my pace. (distance measured on treadmill) Yesterday I pushed on and did 3.3miles but that was at a slower pace and took over 40mins. The c2k5 week 9 seems to just be running for 30…

Cholestorol
Had my results from the doctor yesterday. My cholestorol % is down to 4.7 from 5.1. A great NSV  She gave me other numbers and my good cholestorol is up but I am no longer taking any of those plant sterol drinks so I am very happy. She told me to come back in a year and keep doing what I'm doing. It's all so much…

Back to running after 2 weeks off
Took 2 weeks off after getting an injury when running. Got a pair of compression shorts when waiting to heal up. They are great. Went back for a run today. Took time to warm up and down and kept at a steady slow pace. Everything feel fine. No pain. No friction burns. Why did I not think of these things before. Compression…

Compression Shorts for running
So I have just started to run. I have already picked up my first injury. I have pulled a muscle in my inner thigh. Would these tight compression shorts help to avoid this kind of injury in the future? Anyone had any experience? I would wear a pair of normal shorts over the top of them so the modesty factor is avoided. (I…

Pain after running
Please help I have just started running after dropping about 20lbs and am no no longer "overweight" I have had 3 runs now and I am managing 35mins at 5.2mph. Last night I felt a tightness in my groin area. It is on the inside of my thigh right at the top of my leg. I feel it tight when I walk and don't want to run if it is…

Saturday night workout.
It's almost 8:00pm and I am about to change and go for a run. 6 months ago I would be nursing a JD+Coke and watching the TV. Looks like this might be my weekend entertainment. A great way to celebrate 6 months off Coke, chocolate and (with 2 small excptions) alcohol. Going to make the fat cry!

Went on the treadmill for first time
After seeing all the people doing the C25K program I decided to give it a go. Managed to run 2k, 0.3k walk (while drinking water) and then another 0.7k run at the end. Not bad for a first go! Shattered but I feel my legs got a good workout for the first time in ages. Think I can manage another run in a couple of days to…

Who has a dog?
I have a dog that I rescued from the local pound. He is great. He is my fur-baby! What I only realised this week is the amount of calories he makes me burn. I take him a huge big walk at the weekend and take him out 3 times a day for 20mins. I ordered a new HRM and I think I will see exactly what effect it has over a week.…

4 months off Soda and Chocolate
Today marks 4 months off Chocolate and Soda. I have lost about 20lbs. :blushing: Although I have been eating pretty well I have went completely off these and only had 1 day of alcohol in this time. My weight loss seems to have stopped but my BodyFat % is dropping. Anyone who is looking for somewhere to start, give it a…

Puting weight on but dropping BF%
I seem to have put a couple of lbs back on over the last couple of weeks after hitting my goal weight which matches a 25%BMI. The interesting thing is that my Body Fat % seems to have dropped by 1% over the same time. Is this what happens if you just keep eating clean over a longer period? Should I just ignore the scales…

Inches not pounds
Had to get new work clothes yesterday as I felt I was wearing someone elses suit and shirt. (an expensive byproduct of eating healthy) I was measured and I have dropped 3 shirt sizes (I only had the guts to go 2 sizes down). I got one new suit as well. It's the first time I have bought one and it fitted me without any…

NSV at work today
I was on-site today with a customer. As it is a "holiday" it was dress down so I was wearing a new pair of jeans that actually fit me and a smaller size t-shirt. I was talking to one of the Directors and she told me that I look very different and thought I had lost loads of weight. :) Great when someone notices! I think…

Planning for a weekend "event"
I have a social "event" on Saturday and this will be the first time I have had any Alcohol for over 3 months. I am here seeking advice to try and minimise the impact this will have on me as I will have future one-off events that will be the exception to my new TT lifestyle. I have already planned to switch to drinking…

No longer "overweight"
This is my first post. I started out about 182 lbs and have now dropped to 164. I wish I had started MFP 6 months ago. I have been eating clean and have stopped taking alcohol, fizzy drinks and chocolate since the 2nd of January, (not a drop). I have also increased the amount of water I drink. I think I must be dropping…
