This is my first post. I started out about 182 lbs and have now dropped to 164. I wish I had started MFP 6 months ago.

I have been eating clean and have stopped taking alcohol, fizzy drinks and chocolate since the 2nd of January, (not a drop). I have also increased the amount of water I drink. I think I must be dropping weight the amount of times I have to walk to the bathroom! I don't do any calorie counting and eat as much healthy food as I want.

Yesterday I had to go out and buy new jeans as my old one no longer fitted. I have held off doing this as I didn't want to go in and the smaller size still did not fit. Not only do they fit but I had room to spare. I am now probably halfway to dropping to the next size down.

My BMI is now 24.9 but the question is how far do you go? I now feel like sticking with what I have been doing for longer and see where I can end up but I no longer have a goal (except to stay below 25 BMI). Do you move on to BodyFat% and aim for a number? This will mean staring weight training.

The strange thing is I don't think I look any different. I don't see where the weight has dropped from. I never thought I would get here.

It's completely up to you, do whatever you feel comfortable with. If your losing weight successfully by eating as much healthy stuff as you want, why not carry on? It obviously works for you and has made significant change to your body :)

Well done on your weight loss btw! Awesome!

If you are eating clean healthy food and eating as much as you want, i would think your weight would balance out at the right weight for you. Sounds like you are listening to your body now as it will tell you when it's hungry. Once your on-board store of food (also known as fat) is depleted, i would think you'd stop losing weight.

Really it sounds to me like you are doing exactly the right thing!

It's totally up to you. I'm 5'8" and my goal weight is 155 which is basically my lean mass plus 20-21% body fat.

    Congrats on your loss!
  • Everyone has their own goals. Why don't you practice maintaining for a while (as I find this to be the hard bit!) and see how you feel on a couple of months, then set yourself a fitness goal. I am finding the fitness goals more rewarding than the weightloss ones, which get more difficult to achieve as you have less to lose. Whatever you choose well done and good luck x

Thanks for all the positive feedback. You guys are GREAT!

It just feels strange waking up and finding you are now one side of the line when you have been on the other for the last 20 years. I knew I was dropping and I have been keeping score of my weight for the first time in decades but I only use it to see the impact my diet changes have made. MFP has been the best tool I have found. It has kept me motivated.

It's amazing how your body has a size in mind and if you fuel it correctly, make it move and it has a way of balancing out. I think I will see where it wants to get to rather than set a new "goal" at the moment.

    I'm just very happy today.

I totally know that feeling. I was obese for 3 years, and I'm actually excited to just be "overweight" Can't wait to be "healthy"

Congrats again. So happy for you!

Congratultions, that is a great reward for your control, to need new smaller jeans :flowerforyou: :-) Because you have lost weight gradually, which is very good for you and means you are more likely to maintain a healthy weight, your brain sees you as you; your brain adjusts to seeing you as you are, not comparing to what you were. The best way is to look at photos / try on clothes / measure yourself - these will show that you have lost weight.

I am aiming to get to be in the healthy range, still have a long way to go - nearly out of obese range which is great; then I head for healthy, like you :-)
