DIY pull up bar
I am thinking to build a DIY pull up bar using a galvanised pipe and some wooden posts, the only problem is that my garden is not suitable (my second half won't let me fit something that is visible), but by the side of my shed i got this concreted area that is hidden. If I use the following post bases…

AMRAP same as circuit training?
Did a 20mins of AMRAP (as many rep as possible in 20 mins) 20 burpee, 8 press up, 20 sit ups, 20 squats, 20 seconds plank, 10 lunges. This was with no rest I put it as circuit training, and only gave me 204 calories. Does this sounds right

Rounded shoulders and bad posture
I have a terrible posture problem, my shoulders are rounded etc (I am aware of it and try sometimes to push my shoulders back, and keep a straight back but I always go back to the bad posture). Last night i run a local 5km race and my wife took a short video of me running, and again my posture was terrible. My desk job…

Leg day
question: I have been doing a PHUL program for the past few weeks. It's going ok and I am enjoying it. Regarding leg day, i have signed up to do a bike ride in June, and I need to prepare for it (~54 miles with a serious climb apparently), i will need to go out on the bike at least twice a week. Today i was supposed to…

Military press
Following the advice of psuLemon, i have been doing a PHUL routine which i quite enjoy. Where I don't see too much progress, and still find it quite hard, it's the military press exercise. I don't seem to be able to add weight, and even at the current weight i am using, I am struggling a fair bit. I do them with an olympic…

maintaining weight while losing fat
OK i have read some of the posts and just want to make sure that i am not going to sabotage my progress. I have reached a weight where i am happy at. I still got a bit of fat around my middle (waiting for some caliper to arrive i can try to have a better idea of how much BF i have) and I also know that it is impossible to…

Anyone else with 1 kidney, or reduced kidney function?
If you are, does it hold you back when it comes to training? Just read an article about Crossfit and the risk of rhabdomyolysis. Any views, or advice, TIA

MFP projections, are they right?
Could anyone tell me if this right. I have been losing weight since i have started on MFP in December 2017. I have reached my last goal this week (79kg), MFP told me that i should eat 1,700 calories per day to lose 0.250kg per week. This morning i have entered my new goal - 78kg - but MFP has dropped my calories intake…

Weekly calories count
If MFP tells me to eat 1,700 per day, that's 11,900 calories per week. If let's say don't eat my quota 6 days in a row, maybe 150 calories short of the 1,700, does this mean that on day 7 I am entitled to eat up to an extra 900 calories? Or it does not work that way

Lifting progress
Started PPL a few weeks ago. In term of progress, what should I expect? Is it acceptable to stay on the same weight for a few sessions? Or am i expected to progress at each session, even if it was by a couple KGs? TIA

PPL another question
I have been doing 3 sessions on, 1 day off. And I think it is a bit too much for me, is it ok to do 2 sessions, 1 day off? J

Map My Walk
Question, just went for a walk using Map My Walk, my phone says that I have burned 414 calories, but when MMW synchs with MFP it shows at 487 calories. Why is that?

Shall I ignore my BMI
Just wanted to know if people in general try to reach a BMI goal. My goal is to reach 80kg for 175cm (currently at 81.6kg), but the BMI calculator says that i would still be "overweight", and ideal weight would be 75kg, I don't know if I could even reach that, and I don't think that I want to lose that much weight. Is BMI…

Pesto salad
Today i made my own pesto salad, bow tie pasta, green pesto (jar), light mayonnaise, medallion bacon, chorizo, mushroom, courgette, black olives, spinach, parmigiano cheese. Bacon, chorizo, mushroom, courgette and spinach were cooked in a big dish with some coconut spray oil. How do I work out the amount of calories even…

Bread in the UK
I have almost cut the bread out completely out of my diet. But if I wanted to eat some and not sabotage my diet and not feel too guilty, could anyone (in the UK) recommend a brand, it has to be wholemeal and preferably granary. I was using some granary slided bread that i had in my freezer, only to find out that it's 134…

Feeling on the top of the world and then...
This morning woke up with a sore throat, aching all over and basically feeling sh...t. I bloody hate it, i have been training solid literally for 1 month, progressing with my sessions and the way i feel and now it's time to take a few steps back. I know it's just temporary but so annoying. And i take a lot of vitamins too…

Needs some guidance for healthy diet
This is probably asked on a regular basis, so I apologised in advance. I am 56 years old. Started going back to the gym (every other day) since December 4. Currently weight ~86.8kg, I am 175cm tall. My goals/objectives are to take my weight down ideally to 81kg, lose the flab around my stomach. I don't want to lose the…

Losing weight, toning and getting fit
Long time since i have been in this forum, but I am back trying to get some kind of fitness. At the age of 56, I am thinking that there is still some fitness left in me... My goals are to lose the spare tyre that i have got around my waist, get fit and trying to tone my body. I have unfortunately an incision hernia (after…

Struggling with Over Head Press
I have been doing the SL 5x5 for a while, and I am really struggling with the OHP sets, i have reached a plateau at 35kg (37.5kg is my maximum) but I don't seem to progress and actually really struggling at that weight. Any suggestions to carry on improving? Thanks JC

Getting more flexible thanks to Insanity
I am quite happy with Insanity so far, I am getting fitter, that's for sure. But i am getting so much better with stretching, when I started I could hardly touch the ground with my hands, today I could manage to put my hands flat on the floor! Love that programme JC

Polar FT7 not picking Heart reading
This morning went to the gym for my session, and my 1 week old Polar FT7 would not pick up my heart beat. I tried everything I knew, wetting the strap, trying later on when I was sweating a lot. I thought that it could be interference with the equipment, but I just tried at home, where it has been working perfectly so far.…

Quite happy so far
I don't have to lose too much weight (about 5kg in total), last week I lost 1kg, and this week 0.5kg. Started my journey at 79.5kg a few week ago, and nothing much was happening, and right now down to 77kg. I know that some people are here to lose a lot of weight, but believe me when I say that when you don't need to lose…

Love handles
What would be the best plan to get rid of them Currently doing Insanity + Stronglift 5x5 + some extra work at the gym (ie treadmill, abs etc.) Working with my HRM, shall get my rate to 65-80%, or push for more? They don't seem to go down as quick as I would like to, I know that you can't lose fat specifically, but should I…

Strong Lift 5x5 - what else do you do guys?
I have started the Strong Lift 5x5 program (basically 3 x a week, alternating workplan 1 and 2). Every other day I do the Insanity program. When at the gym, i throw in some running on the treadmill, and probably will start again MTBing as the weather is getting better. What do you do in addition to SL 5x5? Just want to…
