Calories burned from daily activity
How accurate do you reckon the calories burned estimation is under My Home --> Goals --> Your Diet Profile --> Calories Burned --> From Normal Daily Activity is? I've filled in things (like activity level) accurately, but the number seems high. Thoughts?

Pool workout: opinions please?
I would very much like to pick you guys' brains about pool workouts. Any opinions welcome!! :) And keep in mind that I am quite heavy, VERY unfit, and have absolutely no experience with strength training. I was thinking that starting out in a pool might be a good way to go. 1) Is swimming purely cardio, or also resistance…

Concerned I am losing too much.
About a month ago I was 275.2 lbs and 5"3, and set out to loose about 1.5 lbs a week. In the first three weeks I lost about 8 lbs, but in the last week or so my appetite has been very low. About a week ago when it started I didn't feel hardly any hunger and that's why I didn't eat that much. I've started to feel hunger…

Polar FT7 - accurate calorie count?
When it comes to walking (the only exercise I am able to do for any decent amount of time), there's a pretty big difference in what my heart rate monitor and the MFP database of exercises tell me I've burned. My heart rate monitor tells me I've burned 50 - 100 calories more than the MFP database. Which do I believe? I'm…

Too fat to fly?
I'm flying in a couple of weeks. It never accoured to me that I might not fit into a seat. I'm flying economy. I don't have my measurements, but I carry most of my weight in my belly, and the rest around my hips/*kitten*. I'm 5"3, 278 lbs (ish). The last time I flew I was about 240 lbs, which was a bit of a snug fit in the…

Ladies! (questions about pelvic exams)
I'm about 275 - 280 lbs and 5"3, and I'm pretty apple shaped. I recently decided to go to the doctor about something that's been bothering me for a while, and she referred me to a gynocologist for a pelvic exam and an ultrasound. This'll be my first pelvic exam ever, and I'm extremely worried about what it'll be like,…

Bathroom scale recommendations?
I'm thinking of getting a new bathroom scale for myself and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? My top priorities are that it is accurate, measures at least 300 lbs (to be sure it'll measure me, I'm currently in the 270s), and also measures body fat percentage. The cheaper the better, though I'd be willing…

1.5 lbs a week - is it realistic for me?
I'd be interested in getting you guys' opinion on what would be realistic weight loss for me and how fast you're losing. I'm a woman, 5"3, with a current weight of 275.6 lbs (as of this last Monday) and a goal weight of 130 lbs, I'm 22 years old, I've been heavy all my life and never lost a significant amount of weight…

Rewards
I'm curious as to what everybody uses as rewards for reaching weight loss goals? And I don't mean the "I'll have cheesecake today because I've been good all week", but more the big, important goals, like reaching 10% of original body weight lost, or half way to goal weight. How did you reward yourself when you hit your big…

Exercising when sore
So yesterday I walked to the gym, did an aerobics class, 20 minutes on the treadmill, and walked back home. I am really out of shape, so now I am REALLY sore. My legs were killing me yesterday, but now my legs are pretty much ok, but my back between my shoulderblades and the very upper left and right part of my abs are so…

What is a sensible amount of weight to lose per week?
I know everyone says 1 - 2 lbs, and definitely not more. Do you think that 1% a week is ok? For example, if you weight 200 lbs, having a goal of 2 lbs a week? I know 2 lbs is as high as MFP will let you set your goal, but if you were fairly consistent and made some pretty good food and exercise choices, you could lose more…

Logging meat that shrinks when you cook it
When you're dealing with meat that shrinks when you cook it (like bacon), what do you log it as, what it weighed before or after you cooked it? I know it's better to log the weight it was before it was cooked, since it's better to overestimate the calories, but I'd really like to get this as accurately as possible. Another…

Polar FT7 heart rate monitor: opinions?
I'm thinking of getting the Polar FT7 heart rate monitor, and I was wondering if anyone who has had it before/has it now would be willing to give me their opinion of it? One thing that I am concerned about is the fact that I'm not sure whether or not the strap will fit me. I just measured myself around where I think the…

Eating healthy when traveling for 30+ hours straight?
Ok, so I might have to travel really long haul this summer, and I have a few questions. From walking out the door, until I get where I'm going, is probably gonna be about 34 - 35 hours, give or take a little, assuming everything goes according to plan. I'd have to wake up around midnight, and I'd get to where I'm staying…

Your average week, lbs lost
I'm wondering how much you guys lose per week (on average, lbs lost divided by number of weeks you've been at this), and what your short term weight loss goals are (ie., weekly/monthly goals). Also, a bit of background info would be nice :) (height, gender, age, starting weight, current weight, etc.)

Calorie count on noodles?
I'm having some chicken noodles for lunch, but the thing is: when they're dry, the noodles weigh 65 grams (2.2 oz), and when water's been added, they weigh 330 grams (11.6 oz). Which weight do I use to figure the calories? Surely the nutritional content of the noodles don't change just because I added water? If you count…

Les Mills classes
I was thinking about taking some Les Mills classes at my gym, and was just wondering if anyone else has taken any of the classes, or know someone who has? I've been researching it online, read reviews, seen their website, seen videos on youtube, but I'd really like to hear from someone who's got some personal experience.…

Difference between scales
How much weight can be added if you weigh in differently than you normally do? Normally I weigh in before breakfast, after I've been to the bathroom, naked, on a Monday morning. But yesterday I was at the gym and they had a scale and I just couldn't help myself. It showed me as weighing 127.1 kg, which equals 280.2 lbs,…

What do you tell yourself to keep you from quitting?
I'm only a week in and I'm SO tired of counting calories, and so defeated by how much good eating and exercise it actually takes to lose a lb... Can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I feel like just giving up. But I won't, because I'm in this for the long haul and I know there are gonna be ups and downs. My…

For people who have lost a lot of weight... Loose skin?
My question goes out to those of you who have lost a substantial amount of weight. How much loose skin did you end up with? Some additional information about you and your weight loss journey would also be nice, as I'm trying to figure out what my chances are of ending up with a bunch of loose skin. I know it's important to…

How varied does a workout routine have to be?
Because to be honest, my favorite thing to do right now while I'm still as out of shape as I am, is just going around the gym, doing my own thing, doing a little bit of treadmill, a little bit of elliptical, and a little bit of the stationary bike. But it's been beaten into me that a routine needs to be balanced, and…

What do/did you do for strength training?
I am 5"3, 277 lbs, and at the very beginning of my weight loss journey. I have no idea what to do for strength. When I do things alone, along with youtube videos, I feel like I might be doing things wrong, like I might not have proper technique. I can't afford a personal trainer, and since I'm so out of shape, any class at…

Have I REALLY lost weight?
I assumed you've all had weeks where you're down 0.1 - 0.9 lbs. My question is: is that really weight loss? Well, of course it IS, because I know it's less weight, and that a loss is a loss, but that happened to me this week, and in the back of my mind I went "well that could just be natural fluctuation of my weight, could…

Vegetables to go with pasta sauce?
I'm not the greatest cook, so I can't make anything super complicated. Today I thought I'd try some skinless, boneless chicken with some whole wheat spaghetti and pasta sauce. I already have a glass of pasta sauce, but it accoured to me that I could easily add a bit of vegetables to the pasta sauce. What would you suggest?…

From actual exercise to results on scale... How long?
Ok, this is gonna sound like kind of a dumb question, but... How long does it take for exercise to see results on the scale? If you've been generally good all week, and then do a lot of exercise on Sunday, should you be able to see that on Monday morning for a weigh-in? I was thinking of taking a step class at my gym on…

Losing inches
I'm 5"3, 277 lbs, 22 years old, and at the very beginning of my weight loss journey. I've never been very into measuring inches as a way of assessing how you're doing/what you've accomplished, even though I've been told it's a good way to go, because the scale will sometimes play tricks on you when you have a…

Dammit!
I couldn't resist a tiny bit of a sneak peak this morning and weighed myself in. I'm down, but only a TINY, TINY bit :( Feels like kind of a drop in the ocean when I think of how far I am from my goal weight. What do you do in moments like these, when you don't feel like all your hard work is paying off? And what are your…

Knowing when to quit
I did yoga today for the very first time in my life. Now let me just say that I am ve-ee-ee-ee-ry out of shape. The thing is, it went quite badly. And when I say quite badly, I mean I couldn't do 3/4 of the poses, and the ones I could do I probably didn't do right. The instructor came over to me twice and quietly asked me…

What's your workout routine?
I'm just in the start up phase of my weight loss journey, so I'm kinda curious about how other people work out: what days of the week, what kind of exercise, for how long? And a little infro on your weight loss/fitness journey would also be nice, just to put it in context :)

Running: how much improvement in 6 - 7 years?
I'm 278 lbs, 5"3, and I've just started a MFP. As of now, I can't even walk much without being out of breath. I am REALLY out of shape. But everyone has to start somewhere, and I am determined to work my way up. I want to focus mainly on the 5k distance, but it'd be nice to get a decent time on a mile too. The thing is,…
