The Bicycling Road and Mountain MFP Group is all about you...cyclists of all kinds, road, mountain, hybrid, recumbent, wanna-be riders, you name it. If you want, you can use this "sticky" thread to introduce yourself, and also post a welcome to any new group members, but feel free to also create your own topic, and keep…

x- Ride Reports -x
This thread is specifically for posting ride reports. What is a ride report? It can be as simple as numbers (how far, how fast, elevation gain/lost), average speed, etc.) Or, it can be as complex as an intricate and detailed recounting of a specific ride you went on. It can be what you are planning on doing, and then you…

Standing on a trainer?
I have issues with standing on my new fluid trainer. I love the trainer, and the fact I can get workouts in the winter on my own bike. But...every time I stand it wobbles. And I feel like I am not getting enough resistance on the pedals even in my highest gear. What's up? Is this normal, or do I need to adjust the tension…

Favorite cycling "Events"
I am rather fond of the Hilly Hundred, a multi-day event in Indiana: http://www.hillyhundred.org/ I went on the one day Hope Ride for the first time this year and gotta say it was a wonderful experience and a great SAG century ride: http://www.hoperide.org/ In addition to the above, next year I plan to do the following…

Post your bicycling blog links on this thread. Here is my own, but I am not much of an active blogger right now. :smokin: http://someguyonabike.com/

LeConte Lodge
Anybody ever spent time hiking up to the LeConte Lodge in the Great Smoky Mountains? I haven't been up there in years, but back in the day, I absolutely loved the experience. Especially the group meals they served. There is no power up there, at least there wasn't when I went last. They bring the supplies up the mountain…

You know you are truly sick when...
...You actually love the scent of chain lube. There is something about ProLink chain lube in particular that just makes me want to get on the bike and ride. I LOVE the stuff! If they made a cologne with that same smell, I would buy it. Seriously. I know, I know. I am a sick, sick, sick puppy. If you haven't tried it check…

x - Posting Guidelines - x
Here are a just a few simple guidelines for posting in the Bicycling - Road and Mountain MFP Group: * Keep the content more or less cycling related. Moderators can remove posts that don't fall into that general category. * Be respectful. Opinions are more than welcome, but arguments are best not carried out here.…

Mountain Bike Maiden Voyage
I have managed to live all my 55 years (that's 385 dog years) without going mountain biking. I love the outdoors, and I love road cycling, so duh--it's about time. Today will be my first time taking my recently acquired Talon out on a trail. It's mostly gravel logging road, but it's a start. I am feeling kinda nervous,…

Touring bikes - Opinions wanted
My next bike is going to be a touring bike. I am already scouring the internets, starting discussions with local riders, getting input from my mechanic and my local bike shop guy, reading magazines, etc. I am taking input and listening to opinions on bar types, components, gearing, vendors, frame materials and geometry,…

What is bicycling to you?
Bicycling to me is so many things. I can't even begin to list. But one very big thing that comes to mind is FREEDOM. Ever since I was a kid, I have always felt free as the wind on a bike. What does bicycling represent to you?

200 days in a row
I just hit 200 days in a row on MFP! Thank you to all my MFP friends, thank you to all of you who have provided sublime inspiration, and thank you to the guy and the team who thought up and maintain the website. What an invaluable tool for good health! Just knowing I have stuck with it for a couple hundred days is…

Bicycling NSV: 100+ miles
I hit another bicycling goal yesterday. I did 105 miles around beautiful Hope, Indiana, on a gorgeous day. The scenery, the farmland, the sky--intense blue with fluffy white clouds...it was all mesmerizing. I averaged a little over 16 mph..a nice pleasant speed I think. This is my first century in over 10 years, and only…

Bicycling NSV
Road bicycling NSV this morning: I finally climbed Pixley Knob without bailing. It is a 12% grade and has been sort of a mental Mount Everest for me. It may not seem like much, especially for those of you all who do not ride, but for me, it is quite symbolic. Very! I could not have done it one year and 80 pounds ago.…

Boom. Below 200.
Last year at this time I weighed 275 pounds. I just went below 200 pounds for the first time in, um, years and years and years. Decades in fact. I started using MFP and began seriously focusing on eating higher quality fuel and doing higher quality exercise in March.

Happiness
Well, I have been sidelined for a while. Yesterday I had to go to the ER with severe back pain. A CAT scan showed I have a kidney stone that is waiting to come out. So they have me on pain meds, and I have been told no bicycling or running until this thing is gone. (Pain meds are precluding that activity anyway.) I will…

My love affair with cycling
Bicycling, especially in rural areas, is like a drug to me. It's addicting. I like doing longer rides on the bike, even if it's not at a faster pace I originally planned, as long as the scenery is "countryfied", and I am not holding anybody up. I find there is a huge tangential health benefit to just spending time in the…

You've earned 2315 extra calories from exercise today
Does anybody else get sort of a thrill from reading something like that after you log some workouts? It's motivation unto itself, and one of the many things I like about this site.

Exercise and the flu
Well, people at work have been coughing and hacking all around me for a couple of weeks, and now I finally got whatever it is. Started on Friday (my "off" day for working out) with a bad sore throat, and has gotten progressively worse. I now have coughing, body ache, headache, runny nose, chills and a low grade fever. I…

The thing that has made the most difference for me
I have taken a whole new direction in eating. I know I will slip in the future but I am now forming habits that I consider to be very healthy when it comes to my diet. So when I do slip, it will be easy to get back to what I now know is right. I used to come home from work, stressed and alone, and immediately grab whatever…

Red Wine Vinegar - Any downside?
Heya. Lately I have been going through a lot of red wine vinegar. Two small bottles in 40 days. When I prepare my daily salad, I usually have about three tablespoons of the stuff, along with one tablespoon of flax seed oil or olive oil. I am now sprinkling it on brown rice, garden burgers, and other meals. Does anybody…

Lentil - Pecan - Sunflower Veggie Burger
With my newly acquired desire to try to eat better and prepare as much of my own food as I can, I went out last week and bought a food processor. Today I made my first item with it, a veggie burger. Well, not totally veggie, since I used three eggs. They actually came out pretty good though. I searched around the internet…
