Logging food
Hey everyone, It's summer, so it's watermelon season! I cut up a fresh watermelon and now I'm trying to log it. I see "1 cup" is 65 calories, so I measured 8 oz. Is that what they mean?

It's not really getting easier
Hi everyone, I've come back after a 6 year hiatus. I started 11 days ago and I've been trying to workout most days. Back in the day, I did a lot of Leslie Sansone walk away the pounds and I was pretty successful! But, it's been super hard for me. I've been able to last a min or two longer, but eventually stop before the…

Pre-diabetic :(
I just got my numbers back from my doctor. Looks like I"m pre-diabetic. I'm sure I'll be hearing from my doctor on Monday. My A1C was 6.4 I've only recently begun my journey to getting healthier. I've lost a little more than 9 pounds since May. Do I *have* to go low carb or will losing weight be good enough to stave this…

Does time of day matter for exercise?
I was doing it early in the morning, but now I seem to be switching to nighttime (roughly 8 pm). Does that change how it will effect my weight loss (or anything else)? Thanks

Precooked weight or after cooking?
Hi there, I know that some foods are measured by their precooked weight (pasta, for example) and, I am guessing some are after cooking? In any case, I'm grilling up some steaks tonight and I want to know if I log the precooked weight or weigh after cooking. Thanks so much!

Once more - with feeling!
Hi everyone! My name is Jenni. I was very active and diligent about 6 years ago and lost about 25 pounds. Then, my husband got suddenly ill, was in the hospital for about a week, and everything went out the window! The next few months were spent trying to get him back to healthy and I left myfitnesspal behind, along with…

I just walk - that's ok, right?
I have a dog and now that it's gotten so pretty outside, we've been walking 4 miles every other day. We both enjoy it. Some of my friends seem to feel I'm "wasting my time" if I'm not doing something more muscle based. That I need to be doing burpees, squats, lunges, etc. Frankly, I find the idea of having to do that very…

Back again after a couple of month hiatus
Hi all, Back in March, my husband was in the hospital for about a week. He was ok when he left, but it still took about 2 months before he was back to normal. I lost all motivation to exercise and watch what I eat. Unfortunately, I've gained about 5 pounds over the last few months. But, now I'm back and ready to get back…

Coming back and looking for some friends
Hey everyone, I took a few months off earlier this year due to some family issues. But, I'm ready to regain control of my life and looking for a few friends to join me. Thanks!

Anyone have problems with their Jawbone Up?
I went for a 3.5 mile walk today. It logged it in Up (at first) and said I walked 8500 steps, but it didn't record it in my daily steps (says I've walked 200 steps for the day). I was messing around trying to fix it and when I looked at my activity again, it now said I had a one hour activity that recorded nothing. I tried…

My (small) NSV
For the first time in a Very long time, I can touch my toes! I don't know if that's from losing weight or exercising everyday that has made me a little more agile. But, it's exciting. :) I also got to wear a shirt i haven't fit in in a few years. I haven't lost that much weight (and I still have a ways to go), but my body…

Stretch marks
Hey everyone, I was wondering what I can do to improve the appearance of stretch marks. I thought as I lost weight, they would fade, but I still have some that are pretty dark (granted, I still have a long way to go to hit goal, but I thought they would get lighter). Am I wrong about that? It's not that anyone but my…

30 day shred
So, I did this today for the first time. I couldn't quite get through all the exercises (couldn't do the oblique ab exercise at all, but I did a regular crunch during it). Wow, it really kicked my *kitten*. I can barely go up the stairs. How long do I do this before I continue to level 2? And at what point do you take a…

First in home workout
I just did my first workout via YouTube (walk away the pounds). It really got my heart rate up. I was pouring sweat by the end and burned a decent number of calories. I've been walking outside everyday, but this is a great alternative. what are the best workouts that I can find online? Thanks!

Stitch in my side
This has started recently. Whenever I start walking quickly, I got a rather sharp stitch in my right side. Yesterday, it started as soon as I started my workout, but about 1 mile into my walk, it stopped hurting. This morning, when I walked my dog, as soon as I walked any faster than a casual stroll, it started up again. I…

Retraining my mind
I've just gotten back from being out of town for two weeks. I did very little "official" exercise (although while I was working, I did walk between 15K - 18K steps/day). I got back yesterday and despite being tired and jetlagged, I knew if I didn't get out for my walk, I'd just blow it off today, tomorrow and for who knows…

First day with Polar HRM
My husband got me a Polar HRM for our anniversary (he's the best!) and today was my first day with it. Very easy to setup and use. And, i was happy with the results I saw. I stayed in my target heart range for 45 minutes on the normal walk I take with my dog. Now, what does that mean, exactly? I know I'm burning calories…

Nike Training Club
Has anyone tried this? A friend of mine is doing it and told me to get the app. I tried it today and the first "beginner lean" workout just kicked my *kitten*. I couldn't get through the whole thing, only about half. I'll try it again in a couple of days. Right now I feel like a wuss :P

No gym membership - would like to add strength training
Hi all, I don't belong to a gym and don't really want to join one because I travel too much for my job. I would like to add some strength training, what would be some good things I can do at home? Thanks!

Cause for concern?
I joined here about a month ago and I've been trying to walk everyday. I've been pushing myself to go farther and faster. Before today, my previous best was 2 mi at 21 min/mile. Today, I walked 3.2 mi at 19.45/mile. I was thrilled! I also felt like I could talk normally the whole walk, although when I got home I was beat…

Over on sodium, again
So, I still have about 300 calories left for the day but I've gone over on my sodium. How much does this effect things? I know I retain extra water. Is there a way to counteract this (ie drinking extra water to help flush it out)? Thanks for the help!

Feeling Good....and Bad
I just got back from my fastest walk with my dog: 40 min, 1.85 mi. Considering my dog makes me stop a lot (so he can take care of business), I was walking just under 3 mi/hr. I came home pouring sweat, my dog plopped and passed out :) it feels good to be out and really getting some exercise in! The problem is, I know 3…

Eating back exercise calories?
I don't really understand why we want to eat back the calories we just burned off. I thought that was the point of exercise, to burn calories. What am I missing?

Two weeks in...
I've lost 6 lbs. Still have so far to go. But, I've started walking and I'm trying to do that everyday. Yesterday, I went 2 miles, today only a little over 1 mile at one time (I have a dog, so I have multiple walks). I stay within my calories. My job keeps me traveling for much of the year and that's what I'm most nervous…
