How many calories should I be eating?
Hi everyone. I'm a 23 year old female at 111 pounds. So, I'm not sure if I should be at maintenance or eating above that. I have a bit of fat that I would like to get rid of but my main goal is to gain muscle. I lift weights about five times a week usually for about an hour each session. I've only been lifting for about…

Online coaching update -- 1-3 slots open in November
Hey! (First -- this thread exists in a group that I moderate on Myfitnesspal. It is not in the public forums and consequently this advertisement for my coaching is not against MFP forum rules. It is against forum rules to post in the main forums). So one of the reasons I haven't been posting as much on MFP is that I'm much…

In Desparate Need of Help
Hi SideSteel and Sara, I've lost my way in terms of MFP, working out etc etc. I've got a new job a new routine, just upgraded my gym membership (full access to the gym, fitness classes, swimming and health suite) and am ready to get serious. I need guidance on what my intake should be for effective weight loss. This time…

Dropping DL for a while?
My deadlift seems to be going backwards. I switched to sumo earlier this year, but I think I might end up going back to conventional - started out fine, but heavier weights just don't feel right. Has anybody here had success just dropping (for a couple of months) a lift that they've been struggling with? I'm thinking of…

Beginner barbell routine & hip mobility questions
Hi guys, apologies have tried to search for the answer to my questions (and I'm sure the answers are here somewhere) but I can't find anything. Background: I'm 29, 7 months post partum, currently weighing 190lbs and looking for both a hobby that's just for me that I can do at lunchtime, and to lose fat/weight. I had my…

Strong Lifts-Barbell Row
On the Strong Lifts site, it states to do the row with your torso horizontal, pulling the weight to your lower chest. Most other information I have read say do it with about a 45 degree angle and sit back and pull it from the floor to your belly button. Which does make more sense to me as it seems it would limit the…

The Basics - Don't Complicate It
Our basic premise is that losing weight should not be that complicated. There is so much micromanaging that we see that misses the big picture of weight loss, which is the fundamental concept of the energy balance: if calories in are less than calories out, you will be in an energy deficit and will lose weight. Conversely,…

6 Month Progress and Lean Body Mass Conservation
In the last 6 months I have lost 24 lbs and an estimated 6.8% body fat. It would seem that the loss was primarily body fat and my LBM was conserved. I am 5'6", 41% BF and 244 lbs and my short term goal is 200 lbs or 30% BF. But from what I have read I might have to revise my goals lower once I get there. Are there any…

Lifting programme recommendations
Hi, I'm looking for some recommendations for a new lifting plan. I've been lifting for just over a year and have worked through NROLFW, dabbled in Stronglifts and I'm nearing the end of Strong Curves. I've enjoyed all three, though I think Stronglifts was my least favourite as it just didn't have as much variety. If it…

To follow up on the end of my Bulk and shoulder surgery thread: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10001675/benjammins-bulk#Item_10 My shoulder had a constant ache and even though I was gaining a little weight and my legs were getting stronger my upper body lifts were not progressing. I went to see an ortho…

Cutting weight/ Improving imbalnces
Hey guys, I'm currently about 182 pounds, 27 years old, ecto-mesomorph, guessing about 13-15 percent body fat. My goal is to drop to about 170 by dec 1 to alleviate any unwanted belly fat, while maintaining strength (as much as possible) and aesthetics in major muscle groups, and then start bulking up. My biggest problem,…

Form for squats, questions about my hips?
Hello, I hope I'm posting this in the correct area! I started lifting heavy in March 2015 with stronglifts 5 x 5 when I decided that I needed to lose weight, weighing 165 pounds. I am 28 5'5'', female, and the weight has crept on pretty bad since my early twenties. I guess I am telling you my back story because I need a…

Squat rack vs Smith machine
Hello - I've just started to get into lifting (loving it!) and workout where there is a single squat rack and a single Smith machine. For squats I use whichever one is available (which is usually the Smith) and I'm wondering if there are pros/cons to using one over the other and a general rule of thumb for weight…

How often do you wear belts?
Hello everyone, I am increasingly moving towards being a raw lifter. But last week as I was getting to around 90% of 1RM I decided to wear my belt for my deadlift. When I hit my final warmup set for a triple, the belt was fine. However I then pulled about 90% of my programmed weight for a triple and the belt destroyed me.…

Rack Pulls\Grip\Lockout
Relating to Deadlift... For those who are not aware, I compete in powerlifting. So i "need" to pull huge weights... (What powerlifter doesn't want to Pull 600+ Lbs!!) My dream goal for end of the year is 662Lbs\300KG (Currently at 275KG\607lbs). I'm in the 205Lb\93KG weight class. So.... My New program has Rack pulls. 1 -…

New to lifting ! Need advice please
hi, I'm new to lifting and something I've always struggled with is what to eat and how to organize my meals. I'm 5'5 and 112 pounds. I know you have to eat more when building muscle. Can any one tell me if the food choices I'm making are right? Here is 1 example of the meal that I eat often. Thanks I appreciate all…

Change in training routine and scared :(
wellI am a Spartan racer. Like big time... 10 races this year so far. But my sponsors have asked me to give crossfit a try, which means changing my training. My coach wants me to cut my cardio by 2/3 at least. And we are going full blast into strenght training, which I did but not so intensely ( deadlifts, squats, ...) .…

First Powerlifting Meet - a Few Questions
Hi All - I am about 18 weeks out from my first powerlifting meet and am looking for a bit of help on a few things. 1. I am currently ~175, and am hoping/planning to cut down into the 165 class. With 18 weeks left, it shouldn't be an issue, and I should be finished cutting in enough time to let my strength stabilize. But…
