Hi I am type 2 and have been for about 6 years. Its well controlled and I feel real good. I am struggling with losing weight though. I have just begun to follow a 2000 cal diet. I have gotten 30 minutes exercise a day for 2 years now. I take 35units of Lantus twice a day. And antidepressants. I believe my meds are holding…

Craving Carbs
Started a low carb (20-30 a day)diet a week ago. What can I do to fight off the craving for carbs? Don't want to give in to them as my blood sugar readings have greatly improved and have been able to cut a lot of my insulin out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sept Special. Download Blood Sugar 101 for $3.99
I've found this book MOST instrumental in helping me to control my T2D and hope it will help others as well. It's written in the plain straight forward language that I can appreciate. I bought the kindle version a couple of months ago as well as the paperback (for people in my life) but thought I would pass on the info…

Newbie to Board - Not to Diabetes
Hi there, I'm Ellie. I was diagnosed 4 years ago and for the most part have been non-compliant. I have little to no support at home. I have 2 kids and a hubby who like their sweets. I'm frustrated with myself for not taking better care of myself. I could really use some advice, support and motivation to get healthier.…

Had a diabetic check up on Thursday...
...it was weird. I have not actually had one, its usually just the blood work. So havin one was weird, especially when the doctor asked to examine my feet. I had blood work done and I have been so anxious for my results. I received an email an hour ago to check my results in my app that's connected to the doctor's office…

But he goes up and down on his weight, his sugar levels are up and down, it has just been a crazy roller coaster. He is taking Metformin and Onglyza but seems to still be high. Next step is…

phone apps to track glucose?
Hi all, Sorry if this has been covered, but I scanned the first four pages and didn't see anything. Do any of you use a phone app for tracking? I have an android and just downloaded glucose buddy. I think it seems like it will be fine, but am wondering if there are others I should look at. I am trying to get myself back on…

New to this
I was just diagnosed last week and even though I was pre diabetes for about 10 or so years, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I have been on a mission since then to learn about this disease as much as possible. I have been carefully tracking every morsel that goes in my mouth and I love the app on m iPhone. I am looking for…

Is anyone else doing the Diabetes walks?
I'm doing the walk on September 28th here in NYC, just wondering how many other people have participated in these walks. I was only diagnosed in December, so this is my first one and I plan on doing the full 10K.

What do you eat?
What are some of the things you eat to keep your numbers in check? What do you snack on? Meals? I could use some ideas. I've seen several nutritionists, but I want to know the real side of it. It's easy for a healthy, stick thin nutritionist to say, eat this and this, but what works in REALITY? I'm a diabetic, but I don't…

Getting base insulin level right on new diet
Sorry. I should have started this as a new topic rather than as a reply to another post so I am reposting here. Just joined MFP and this forum. I am Type 2 on 80 units of Solostar plus 2000 mg of Metformin per day. This is only my second day and last night before bedtime I was on my MFP target but my sugars were getting…

Helping parents with Diabetes
My father was diagnosed with Type II diabetes a few years ago. He has been dealing well with it so far with diet and one prescription. He recently had a bad A1C ( I think that's the right acronym). He grew up on a farm so is a very red meat and potato kind of guy. He has adjusted his diet a little when he was first…

Newly Diagnosed
Found out I have T2 diabetes 2 weeks ago. I started taking 1500 mg of metformin daily and will see my doctor in 4 weeks to see how it is working. Luckily I started going to the gym and eating better in January so I've already lost some weight. It is very overwhelming. There is so much to think about daily. I started…

Another newbie
Hi, y'all. I'm new to all of this -- just diagnosed T2 last month, new to MFP, new to low-carb diet and exercise. I've been reading like a fiend (bloodsugar101.com, Becker's "The First Year: Type 2 Diabetes," just getting started on Dr. Bernstein's "Diabetes Solution") and learning a LOT. Looking forward to reading here,…

I will have to leave the group!! HbA1c still in 5s
Just had the results back from my quarterly blood test. My HbA1c is at 5.1% for the second successive quarter. As its 12 months at a good level my doctor is taking me off the diabetic register!! All through diet and exercise. Does it mean I am cured? I don't see it that way, I see it as controlled. Though it surprised me…

New to this group and new to diabetes
Hi all. I recently got the diagnosis. Ironically this is after spending the last 7 months or so losing around 50 pounds and never feeling better. I'd already changed the way I was eating and thought I was doing well. Not really sure now. I'm looking at sugar and carbs as per the tiny amount of info my doc gave me. It's all…

Continuous Monitoring

One of the presenters referred to a website called The Quantified Self which was developed to support and encourage those people who wished to take responsibility for managing their own health. I was…

How many Carbs do you eat a day?
My days have their ups and downs but I'm finding that I feel best around 100-125 total carbs (not net). I'm finding I'm able to keep my BG under 100 almost all day (again there seems to be a few ups and downs) and I've been able to consistently lose weight. If I go much higher for a week straight I either stall or gain. So…

Advice on Insulin Adjustments
I am a type II insulin dependent diabetic (2+ years on insulin). I started MFP on 6/18 and am targeting about 1500 calories a day and around 200 carbs a day. So far I have lost 10 pounds. With the lower calories I have had numerous low BG readings (normally in the 50's). Is there a formula for adjusting insulin input based…
