Sour Dough chatting anyone?
I am nursing some Carl's Oregon starter back to health. I had great success with that while in Australia so had gotten some in 2007 but hadn't used it in all this time. Thankfully it is bubbling and making liquor in my fridge currently. I also have some starter I am trying to get healthy without aid of any additives, just…

Found the Perfect Recipe Site
I found the greatest recipe site. You can search for recipes based on calories and nutrients. It has a slide for calories, carbs, fat, sodium, cholestrol, protein, and fiber. You slide the slide over and set a goal. Like I looked up "Less than 500 calories" with protein and fiber both at 20 grams. Had some great recipes.…

Fitbit Friends
I am going to start this one because we seem to have quite a few people with fitbits and because I really would love to increase my steps! Right now with the Leslie Sansone one mile workout and the cleaning/errands I do daily I am at a comfortable 6000 steps a day. I might keep that goal for another week because dh will be…

Trying to reset my menus using the JAMA suggestions.
I have been reading. Research papers. Trying to understand if it is possible to stay healthy longer by eating the right foods. The latest research, published in May in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association: JAMA Intern Med. 2015;175(5):767-776.), says that YES, it is! This research study is the best yet…

New to retirement
Hi all. I am new to retirement as I am 60 years old and it was sort of "forced" on me by major back surgery and being physically limited as a result. Prior, I had been very active and athletic, not planning to retire until the standard age of 66. I had never been a "stay-at-home" person, having worked full time since I was…

April chat
I don't read a lot of blogs here but this one made me laugh this morning. A couple of commenters thought it was a fat shaming post. I do not agree, I had a great belly laugh from this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/dsjohndrow/view/why-can-t-we-just-accept-it-that-827871 The guy over came cancer and lost 100 lbs., has…

March 2016 Challenge
Put your personal monthly challenge and results in this thread.

Exercise?
How much and what kind if exercise do you all do? I started out last year with 30 min on the treadmill. I have increased that to walking 1-2 hours total a day ( 5-10 miles) I am wondering if that is normal and reasonable or if I am obsessed with getting the exersize so I can eat more. My recent injury has led me to…

March Chat
I did not actually intend to start this. For some reason the gratitude list posted twice and I could not eliminate one, so I started March chat! lol I can only say that February was an absolutely horrible month for me. Getting a serious diagnosis simply knocks you off your feet for a bit. Also, my husband had some health…

February Coffee/Tea and Gratitude Chat
I am grateful this morning for the Capricorn trait of tenacity, known to my family, husband, and friends as bullheadedness. I have been beating my head against getting a little business started and the more obstacles the I butt into, the more stubborn I become. This IS going to work. lol I insist that it will! lol Janet

January Chat
I read an interesting article last night in Yoga Journal about New Years Resolutions. As a tool to keeping your goals for this year, it suggested doing creative visualization of the new you a year from now if your New Years resolutions are successful. Then write a letter from your new self to your old self dated 1/1/2017.…

Trying to reset my metabolism using the EM2LW suggestions.
If my numbers start to look a bit weird to you all, it is because I have disconnected my MFP and Fitbit. I will be slowly upping my cals. about 100 per week over the next few weeks. This is so I can hopefully find my true TDEE and once that is established, I will only cut cals. from that number. Because of my reports from…

Question for the Paleo fans
I have tried to look into Paleo/Primal eating and there is so much info it is overwhelming and conflicting opinions about it. A couple of you seem to have had some good success. I am wondering did your drs. give you a Paleo diet to follow or did you find a book or website you found worked out for you? I do have a copy of…

December Chat
Forgot to start this thread, sorry. With the colder weather and snow, etc. These workouts on the blog today might come in handy: https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/4-indoor-cardio-routines-that-are-more-effective-and-fun-than-the-treadmill/ I used the treadmill at one of the motels while traveling and remembered how very much I…

How are you planning on handling the holiday feasting?
It is that time of the year, feasting season, one right after another. We seem to make the holidays happy with all the foods we didn't eat trying to lose the weight from the last holiday feasting marathon. My biggest tool is NOT COOKING. I go somewhere have a single meal and that is it, no left over turkey, ham, roast or…
