Cheat meals?
Just curious how everyone handles special occasions such as birthdays or weddings? Do you occasionally allow yourself to have a treat? How often? I have allowed myself one cheat meal a week in the past. It just makes me feel so guilty though! Just curious if anyone has had trouble with motivation doing this? Thanks in…

A little help and encouragement needed
Hello Everyone! This is my first post, and I am brand new to EM2WL. In high school I weight 170 lbs at my heaviest. I am 5'9" and I currently weigh around 153-155ish.. I was about 145 at my smallest and I was very comfortable at that weight. I have been trying to get back there for the last 2 years and it just wont seem to…

New here - Please help !
Hi All, signed in to MFP approx 8 or 9 days ago & have been logging food/exercise just as it is (not trying to do anything special). I thought this would be a good idea to see where I am starting from.... WELL, it appears that I am grossly under my calories (net value) most days in fact usually net between 800-1200 ish.…

Slow progress but determined
I'm not new to MFP or this group, but I took a 7-month break from diet, logging, and exercise after seeming to hit a plateau last spring during 30DS and later P90x and 1500-1700 calories a day. I am 36yo, 5'3", and currently weigh 159.8. I started again in earnest at the beginning of January but decided this time I was…

TDEE, Metabolism reset, and Diabetes
Anyone here successfully used TDEE - 10 or 20% for weight loss while managing insulin dependent diabetes? Looking for some encouragement from someone with experience. I increased my calories about six weeks ago, to around TDEE - 20%. Although, some days I go over my TDEE, but not many. Increasing my TDEE also means…

Beginner strength training ideas?
Hi all! I just started eating my TDEE last week, and I was quite nervous about it. All my life it has been drilled in my head, cut calories & exercise more. Well guess what, it wasn't working and I have tried everything. I figured I have done everything else and it hasn't worked, so might as well jump in with both feet.…

When to adjust for decreased activity?
My family has been sidelined with a nasty cold, and I've missed more workouts than I'd like as a result. I'm in the "moderately active" category due to six 35-minute workouts/week. I won't get that many in this week, so should I adjust my calories for the week down a level? Or is that being too nitpicky?

I am looking for friends that EMTWL
I am still pretty new to eating more and would love some friends that are doing the same! Thank you in advance :)

Wanting successful EMTWL friends!
Hi guys, I am really looking forward to trying this EMTWL thing and excited about the concept of a lifestyle change rather than a quick fix. However, I am also a little anxious so I would love to gain some friends who are eating and exercising the same way as myself. I'm a busy mom and could use some advice in the…

How did you calculate your goals?
So I have been experimenting with my daily goals recently. I was just curious to know what process did you guys go through to find out your daily goal. Did you go online? Did you just experiment? Did you see a nutritionist? Did you already know what to do?

Thanks everyone!
I just wanted to come on here and thank everyone who's answered my questions and made this such a fulfilling journey. When I first posted on January 14th, I was 137, with 22% BF, bloated, fatigued, and doing way too much cardio, along with eating too few calories. Now, about 1.5 months later, I'm down to 130.8, 17.23% BF,…

Heavy lifting without protein powder?
I'm reading NROLFW (I can't do the program right now as a gym membership isn't really possible for me, but I wanted the base info!) and they recommend protein powder shakes after a workout. I eat paleo, mostly because I have a crap ton of food intolerances, so...is protein powder really vital? Or is it just a matter of…

NOT a quick question. I need a fairy Godmother(father) HELP
I just need help PLEASE. I have been doing what I though was EM2WL for months, since late summer, early fall. Haven't done a full reset since frankly I am at my heaviest and don't know if I can handle that mentally right now. I did do a self imposed reset from Dec. 7 - Jan. 7 since I moved to a totally new city (where I…

To cut or not to cut...that is the question.
I'm finishing my first phase of NROL and eating at TDEE-20%. I'm taking a break next week from lifting. Should I also eat at TDEE or continue to cut? I know it's recommended to eat at TDEE for a week every 4-8 weeks, but wasn't sure how that worked with exercise. Thanks!

Mental Success!
I started my deficit yesterday, and survived eating 2130 (2128!), and went to bed and woke up hungry, which I assume means my metabolism, as of yet, is not going back to VLCD mode (although I wouldn't expect that to change overnight :) ) I already cannot weight for my return to TDEE though!! My success --> I did not touch…

I Think It's Starting To Work!
I started EMTWL about 2 weeks ago. My weight went up a couple lbs the 1st week, then settled at 230 for a few days. The last 3 days I've been 229 on the nose. No fluctuation like before where I was 228 one day, 231 the next. I know I shouldn't pay attention to the scale that much, but it's interesting to me to see how I…

Grazing vs. every 2-3 hours
I am more of a eat something small every 1-2 hours rather than a eat something larger every 3 hours. Is it doing me any harm to be eating that frequently? Should I try to eat larger portions less often? I know in the starter kit it says to eat a meal then set a timer for 2-3 hours. I seem to get hungry after just 1 hour...…

what kinds of food do you eat?
I am totally new to this. I have just decided today to give this a try. I have figured out my BMR and TDEE. I have a bowflex that has a zillion years of dust on it. I also have some free weights. SOOOO... can I eat anything? Does it have to be low carb and high protein? Am I good with eating whole grains and pasta in…

Am I doing this right?
Hi all, I currently do 20-30 minutes on the elliptical 4-5 times a week along with 3 20-25 minutes sessions of a kettlebell circuit. I am also on my feet most of the day with my two daughters. Would this put me in the light or active category as far as exercise is concerned? Also, would you guys mind looking at my diary…

Net calories
If eating at 15% cut of my TDEE is it necessary to watch the NET calories? I am over stuffed today and still did not net 1200 calories for the day? I just upped my calories from 1700-1900 because I again plateaued.

Time for a deficit break?
Ok....let me post my current data: age 60 (as of 1/24); M; weight 231-232; height 71 3/4"; bf% 25.3%. Scooby using K-McA my BMR is 2071. Using a tweener factor of 1.35 (between sedentary and lightly active) my TDEE is 2796. I still have 30 pounds to lose so with a 20% deficit my net calories are 2237. I started MFP in July…

I could use some reassurance and/or feedback please!!
I'm not a newbie to EM2WL but still would love some reassurance or at least some feedback! Over the last few weeks, I've been gaining and losing the same 2 pounds, which is beyond frustrating since I feel like I'm doing everything right. According to my BMF, my average TDEE is 2800. When I take in the consideration for the…

PALS Eating 1200 Calories or Less
Just curious, what do you all do when your PALS eat 1200 calories or less? Do you message them and try to encourage them? Do you delete them? I have several who hardly eat, and I've thought of messaging them, but don't want to come off as judging. So, I think I might just try posting articles on eating more in hopes of…

not quite success yet, but...
in case some of you need a little motivation! i've been stalking this group for a while. a few months ago i decided to start up'ing my cals. i didn't quite 'get' all the info but the concept made sense so i started small. from 1300+ cals i up'd 100 or so cals a month, watching the scale and the tape measure with no…

new to EMTWL and just want an outline!
Hi everyone! I definitely want to eat more to weigh less. Well, I definitely want to weigh less. I'm new to this, and find that eating more -- while not terribly hard -- has me worried that I'll just continue to gain weight. I have calculated my BMR and TDEE several times and always seem to come up with different numbers,…

Cutting when I love eating so many cals per day!! HELP! :)
LOL....well, for a bit of background...I had started with the 1200 cals per day like most everyone else, lost 7 lbs pretty quickly and plateaued for months! Found this group, re-did my numbers, upped my daily calories, and had steady success for months and up until a month and a half ago, was at my lowest weight in years!…

Quick Question what should I NET
I have made all my calculations and set MPF to TDEE - 15%. I log my exercise in MPF with calorie burn, I simply do not eat those back unless it NET's me lower than my BMR right? Always eat at 1950.... TDEE 2250 MFP Calories Set 1950 BMR 1550'ish If my HRM shows a calorie burn greater than 400 calories than I eat until I…

Heavy Lifting
I am convinced. I need to start lifting! I am planning on starting the week of March 18th, as I have a sport season championship the weekend before that, and I shouldn't switch up my routine right before hand (my coach would go nuts  ). I was reading the thread a ways down the page about beginner strength training,…
