  • I am smaller than you at 4’11”. I’m about 5 pounds away from my goal. I can’t eat a huge deficit, so here are some extra things I do. Some of is harder than others: No liquid calories/no alcohol No snacks between meals, or one small snack No added sugar Working out regularly Working to increase my non-exercise calorie…
  • I workout while on vacation. Exercise keeps me emotionally even keel. My favorite thing to do is wake up early and go for a run, exploring my city/vacation spot when people are just waking up and starting the day. It’s uncrowded, and you see the regular folks going to work. It’s like seeing a city without its makeup on.
  • Whoops! I entered you in as male. For a female, the calculator says 1420. Sorry. :/
  • I don’t know your age and am assuming you are female, but an online TDEE calculator suggests 1600 per day for one pound a week. I am 4’11” and I find it hard/annoying to figure out my calories.
  • I did P90x, the program and the nurtrition advice. I did not buy the supplements or shakes. I was JACKED at the end of it. I started at a healthy weight and was super toned by the end. Enjoy it!
  • I like everyone’s thoughts here. I’ll just add the suggestion that the next time you are in the treadmill, raise the incline a bit, even if you have to go slower. You’ll use your quads a little more, which will take some pressure off your knee and stabilize your knee as your quads get stronger.
  • My nearly 14 year old daughter is 5’2” and weighs 100 pounds soaking wet. She has some dimples on the backs of her legs. She gets it from me.

  • Not an expert here, just an enthusiastic jogger. I’m wondering if you are getting ischemic colitis. Basically the intensity of your run might be a little too much for your fitness. Blood rushes to your tummy, and you get cramps and the need to poop. Aside from hydration and food, personally I would try your next long run…
  • I found that eating low carb helped me stay fuller at lower calories. Also, it helps me to eat two meals a day, or 2 meals and one smaller meal. Snacking is pretty much out. Also, once I gutted through the first 3-4 days, it got a lot easier.
  • Just an interjection. I agree that below 1200 is too low for most folks. But just for a different perspective, I eat 1000 calories a day. I am 4’11”, and my TDEE is 1270 or so. So it’s not meant to cause rapid weight loss. My spouse is an MD, and is helping me monitor my diet. He says under 1200 *can* be perfectly healthy,…
  • Long time runner, here. My enthusiasm waxes and wanes. Here’s what works for me: running with friends, listening to music or podcasts, registering for a race. Or I run less and do other cardio classes to remind myself what a runner’s high feels like. You might not enjoy it now because you are slower and it’s less…
  • I didn’t realize what “woo” meant, but after googling, I realize my reply is really unhelpful. I don’t know how to delete it. :( I am sorry if it bothered/irritated people. FWIW, I have permission from my Dr for my plan.
  • I am 4’11” and weigh 114. Trying to get to 105. YMMV, but I try to stay close to 1000 calories a day. The first few days were really tough, but I’m used to it now. I try to eat low carb. Low carb helps me feel fuller. I also avoid alcohol and sugar. I run/walk every day. When I get closer to my goal, I’ll loosen the reins…
  • Hi vallemic! I am 4’11” and have 9 pounds to go to hit my goal. Feel free to add me!
  • Recently turned 44. I’d ultimately like to lose 15 pounds, but I’d be very satisfied with losing 5 in the next 3-4 months. I’m 4’ 11”, so 5 pounds is a lot!
  • I find not drinking any alcohol is easier that trying to manage fitting it in.

  • I love running! It took me awhile to get there. It's a great feeling to accomplish a new distance, or a new time. What I love about running is that it's dedicated time just for me. I'm happy for you!
  • I am 4'11". I've managed to get to 110, but would like to be 105. 1200 calories a day is tough. There's not much wiggle room when you're already short. I've had some success by quitting booze and any added sugar. Feel free to add me.
  • I am 4'11". Current weight is 115. My first goal is 110, then 105. My pants are tight and my face is puffy.
  • I exercise with less intensity. But my cramps aren't debilitating, so it may be easier said than done.
  • Move more; fuel less. I suggest you start logging what you eat in MFP to get a sense of your usual calorie intake. When I do that, I am surprised by how many extra calories I eat just without thinking. Maybe make a small goal, like lose 5 pounds. Put your stats into the app, and it will suggest a maximum calorie amount…

  • I am 4'11" and aim for 1200, too. Some days it's closer to 1000, some days 1500.
  • Good post. I cut out alcohol on Oct 1 for Sober October. I sleep better, I'm losing weight, and I'm not snacking at night. Even though it's had nothing but positive effects, I still look forward to a point in the future when I can drink again. What the hell?
  • Kind of. I am a lawyer, and often I am in court all day. No time to pee, much less get lunch. So I'll get home and eat whatever's in front of me. I've had success with bringing almonds to eat at lunchtime, and it helps keep me from bolting down food later in the day. As for wine, I also find that can derail me. I'm doing…
  • Assuming you are not looking to race the half for a fantastic time, but instead have a goal of finishing strong, you don't need to change your diet, imo. Just make sure that on your long run days you allow yourself a bit more salt and sugar (such as Gatorade) during your run. You have plenty of time to experiment with what…
  • Doggerland, I am 4'11". I have a smaller weight loss goal, but feel free to add me!
  • I am 4'11" and was around around 105 until I hit my 40s. Now I am 118 and would like to get close to 105 again. I'd be thrilled if anyone wanted to add me.
  • I am 42f and have been running since my late 20s.
