Why all the yelling?

This, this, this all day long...

Weighing the peel on a banana is tantamount to weighing the container your food comes in and counting it as extra calories.

I generally stay away from entree salads when eating out. I typically go with a loaded baked potato (I love them) or a grilled meat (streak, chicken, fish) with veggies.

I don't rely on motivation which is a fickle friend. Instead I devise a plan and follow it consistently thus taking the emotion out of it.

My brain processes information differently when I write with pencil and paper as opposed to typing. It seems to "get in my brain" better. I'm glad you've found a way that's helpful for you.

This is a huge insight for a lot of people. I'm a little sad for the folks who never quite grasp this very simple, but incredibly liberating concept. Good for you!

These "diets" are just various ways you can go about eating less than your body uses. All weight loss comes down to a simple formula of calories in being less than calories out OVER TIME. Stop getting bogged down in the various "diets" and focus on understanding the fundamentals first. Eat the way you eat now and find ways…

Words of wisdom? How about long term sustainable weight loss requires long term sustainable commitment.

I kind of get the impression that you're not doing this at your doctor's direction. It sounds like maybe you've tried doctors, meds, etc and aren't happy with the results and are now striking out on your own to experiment with diet. Am I reading that right?

Just a Vit D3 supplement because I'm deficient.

You might also consider adding in a little exercise to give you a few extra calories. I'm not suggesting you go bananas with crazy amounts of cardio, but a brisk walk or maybe fun exercise class or time on the treadmill whatever you would enjoy doing and wouldn't feel like a chore. I get 200-300 extra calories a day…

That was my first thought too. He's not even very good at it.

Welcome to the community! It's considered bad form to hijack someone else's thread. Start a new thread and you'll get some good responses.

FWIW, most people find maintaining a much greater struggle than losing. Your post gives me the impression that you envision maintenance as the land of milk and honey where everything is easy. YMMV, I'm just suggesting you might want to start thinking about life post weight loss.

I had the same injury. It can take a surprisingly long time to heal and we often start pushing too much too soon causing it to take even longer.
-
You've gotten some great advice. I just popped in to say you look amazing! It sounds like you'll be back on track once you tighten up your logging with a food scale. Cudos.

I go in cycles of about 2 to 3 months eating the same thing for breakfast. Right now it's a really hearty whole grain bread (I have several I love from a local bakery) toasted and topped with about 15 grams of peanut butter and a small sliced banana. Keeps me happy for several hours.

Best thread I've read today! I love to see people who are stuck take the advice they're given and at least try it before they decide it's wrong. I'm thrilled for you!!

Your Fitbit isn't smart enough to know that you're cleaning house. It just detects that you're being physically active according to it's parameters. I use a Garmin and it counts all of my physical activity and adjusts MFP calories as indicated by its data. Why would I use it if I don't trust it?
-
I have my Garmin connected to MFP. It adjusts my calories throughout the day based on my activity. I eat what it tells me to. I lose/maintain weight as expected. It's something I don't care to particularly overthink.
-
I think you misread. It was suggested that you eat at maintenance, not a surplus. Based on your recent posts, you need to relax and focus on your wedding. Give this diet gig a break for a while.

There's a member here who recently posted pictures of herself at around 130 lbs and then again at 150 lbs but much more muscle definition. She look amazing when she was 20 lbs heavier. Does anyone here remember who that was or maybe post that thread? I think this visual might help OP see how she could look and that it's…

Sure, you can do whatever you want to do. You're the one who had to live with the consequences of your choices. Are you ok with that?

It's actually a pretty common fear. You don't want to mess up all the progress you've made so you're hyper aware of you food intake. Give yourself time to get comfortable with it. Take small steps (as you indicated) and allow yourself whatever time you need to feel right about it. Congrats on your progress so far.

A small change I have made recently is that I have swapped out low calorie bread for a much higher calorie option. The reason it's been a positive change is because this bread has a much higher nutrition profile and is very dense so it fills me up so much better than what I was eating before. Because of this I finally…

Sounds like you're on a great track. Nice Job. Please keep up posted on your progress.

Remember the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"? I think this might apply here. You've successfully lost 85 lbs doing what you're doing. If I were in your shoes, I'd tighten up my logging and make sure I know how many calories I'm consuming but keep doing what I'm doing otherwise.

My guess is that you weren't thinking about what you ate when you put on weight, so I'd consider that a BIG down side. The reality is that you need to think about what you're eating. These plans will deprive you of that mental exercise. I don't see how that can help you in the long run. Remember, there's losing weight and…
