  • thanks everyone who has helped out the newer MFPers and/or women who ARE afraid of lifting heavy because they're afraid of getting bulky. I have had A LOT of inbox messages and friend requests saying how this thread and my/our advice has encouraged them to lift heavier because THEY WERE afraid. one thing we should all…
  • "train insane or remain the same" like i said. if you're doing the same thing over and over and not progressing, you'll never look/feel/get better. Women especially. Weight rooms are intimidating to them for the most part. Plus, they're reading Women's Health Mag every day where there's a different opinion about training…
  • EPOC (Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption) is a measure of increased oxygen consumption after exercise or strenuous activity. EPOC is also accompanied by a post-exercise increase in energy (also recognized as an increase in metabolism.) Your “EPOC” after strength training is significantly higher than after cardio…
  • I hear this way too much from women.. "i'm afraid of getting bulky".. which is why I had the motivation to post this. OBVIOUSLY this is still a misconception. It works, over and over again. I see it every day. Women who are strong and dedicated to their goal but doing nothing to get better because of misunderstanding of…
  • i love when people try to talk down to others who are giving motivation. This post is for people who want to lift but are afraid of getting bulky. hence the title.. if you're not.. then don't respond. thanks!!!!
  • you go girl! yes, you're going to build muscle... but get "bulky" no... I don't want women to bench press 400 lbs.. i just want them to know that they're strong, and they can work past 5 lbs and get the results that they want.
  • haha my parents met at the franklinville skating rink in South Jersey. They were all about shufflin!! these are some awesome suggestions, thanks!
  • I also use the Polar FT4... $89 at Sports Authority
  • i use my HRM for exercise... MFP is WAY too low!! i bought a polar HRM and i burn between 300-600 calories per workout... MFP was calculating 100-300! way way way off haha
  • hah this made me laugh!!! yeah, i thought it was just error in the system.. just checking to see what other opinions are! thanks everyone
  • I custom enter my goals/macros. I just wanted to know if it was just my entering or if MFP just calculated wrong and I should start adding myself as well as tracking on here. I'm not looking to lose really, i want to build lean mass so my macros are important
  • The problem with all of these selections is that most of them aren't fast digesting carbohydrates. Eggs digest very very slowly... which is not the type of protein you need after a workout.. you need a hydrosolate protein.. which is usually found in powder form. Also, the fastest digesting carb is sugar.. anything high in…
  • Definitely should be incorporating weight training into your workout regimen. Weight training burns more calories during and AFTER exercise than straight cardio does! http://tcsnapfitness.wordpress.com/2012/03/09/epoc-excess-post-exercise-oxygen-consum/ this blog post explains EPOC and why this is true!
  • Yesterday I made shrimp and avocado over brown rice! it was great! Here's a link to my blog with the recipe and other recipes! http://idesireedareyou.wordpress.com/2012/06/13/shrimp-and-avocado-lunch-or-dinner/ Enjoy!
  • post workout, you need fast digesting carbs and protein! the fastest digesting carb is sugar. so any fruit is good after a workout.. here's a few of my favorite post-workout meals Cheerios Banana Nut cereal with almond milk and a protein shake Protein shake with 1 banana blended in half a toasted bagel with honey and a…
  • Everyone on this post just looks fantastic! Wow.
  • this made me LOL
  • Both are super important. You cant do one without the other.... if you just diet, you're losing fat AND muscle... the more muscle you have... the more calories you burn when you're not doing anything (sleeping, sitting on the couch, driving, etc). The only way to build muscle is with a strength training program!! If you…
  • I sometimes make Garlic Shrimp and Avocado! 4 oz thawed shrimp 2 cloves of fresh minced garlic 3 oz white wine (i use pinot) 1/2 avocado 1/2 tbs olive oil Cut the avocado into bite sized cubes and set aside on a dish or in your lunch container. sautee the shrimp in the olive oil in a pan with the wine and garlic until…
  • Depends on what you're using it for and when. If you're using it for after a work out, you need a whey "hydrosolate" because it's the fastest digesting protein. If you're using it for a late night snack, try a casein... because it's slow digesting!
  • Hi there! I can totally understand why you're feeling somewhat discouraged. I have been battling with my weight/health for about four years and now I have some experience that I would like to share!!! I've been through the "eating 800 calories a day plus exercise" thing... and to be honest, I made myself sick. My immune…
  • the cupcake in the pic is CHOCOLATE... cant get any better than that.. pretty hair color too :)
  • i make awesome "protein pancakes" 1/4 c fat free cottage cheese 1/4 c oats 3 egg whites 1/2 scoop of protein powder (I use Optimum Nutrition, 24g per serving..so 12g goes in the pancake!) I mix it all together and cook it in a pan with non-stick spray. They're a little bland, but anything that's good for you is. I top it…
  • started at 157, on the left i was about 142... the right is at 127! I'm exactly 5'3.5"
  • I'm getting chills reading this stuff! this is so awesome, and I'm so glad that I've been called an inspiration by most of you!!! Like I have said before, I post all of my workouts and my food log on my blog, at idesireedareyou.wordpress.com along with some things that inspire me. I am so happy to hear from you all!!!…
  • i have a popcorn machine at work.. weird?
  • I'm glad everyone else is getting a kick out of this. It helps my boredom and keeps me from snacking on PEANUTS. I'm literally addicted to peanuts and I could end up eating an unhealthy amount if I don't stop myself.
  • like i said, i was bored at work and was saying that i find that it helps my need to snack. if you go look at my progress post, you can see that I know what i'm doing. I, and the other people who posted on this, can clearly laugh and joke about this (hence the squirrel comment). Please go take your serious comments…
