  • Chinese buffets are very difficult to navigate while trying to stay in control - I let myself sneak one every two or three weeks now that I'm at my goal :-). Most will have some veggie dishes (green beans, stuffed mushrooms, etc.) that might be prepared in oil but at least have *some* nutritional value. I'd consider…
  • This. THIS is the attitude that will carry you through. It took me a year to drop about 60 pounds. Now I'm at my original goal. I say original because my goal keeps changing. And I *still* have "bad" days. That's life. Birthday parties are going to happen. A friend you haven't seen in a while calling you up for beer and…
  • I suppose anything's possible, but none of that is very likely...
  • Protein and fiber are always very filling! I'm in the same boat as far as veggies alone not doing the trick, but I find if I have some grilled chicken or fish and a high-fiber roll, Fiber One bar, or high-fiber powder such as Herbalife's blend, it can be very filling. Most Americans don't get nearly as much fiber as they…
  • I'm single. :-)
  • My 6-year-old lab gets about 1-2 miles in the morning (20-45 minutes) depending on time and between 2-3 miles (40-60 minutes) most evenings, for 3-5 miles a day. On the weekends she might get 5-7 miles on a hike in the mountains. That's in addition the runs I do for myself - I've been getting fit and spending more time…
  • This was my exact thought!
  • Congratulations - that's an amazing story!
  • We *don't* know "what she does sexually." Knowing someone is married to a person of the opposite gender does not tell us "what they do sexually," only that they're straight. I have no clue what any given gay person is into sexually any more than I know what any given straight person is into sexually. Or are you suggesting…
  • I suggest Skinny Cow / Unreal chocolate candies. They're delicious and satisfy the craving!
  • I wish! I run 30-40 miles a week and still can't eat "whatever I want!" :-)
  • Good shampoo won't do that to your hair. Invest in really good organic shampoo like Kevin Murphy - it's worth the price tag!
  • The first time I saw a Shakeweight commercial I honestly thought it was a joke. I was waiting for the rest of the SNL episode to come on. :-)
  • I think this varies person-to-person. I've been doing it daily for a year, even now that I'm at goal. I do shoot for the same time every day.
  • It's not unusual for women to see fluctuations of 3-6 pounds in the few days before their periods, either. I don't know if that's a factor here, but that might have some influence over what you see on the scale. As you log your weight daily, you'll get used to your body's own rhythms. The first few months I used MFP I…
  • Hey there - welcome, and best of luck to you!
  • I find that eating slowly encourages you to be more mindful about what you're eating. I also get more enjoyment out of my meals that way. Scarfing down a 400-calorie sandwich in three minutes isn't as enjoyable for me as taking longer to really enjoy it.
  • And lest we forget, Photoshop is a glorious thing.
  • I try to be encouraging/motivating to my MFP pals when they're doing really great things, or respond if they mention feeling discouraged. I don't necessarily congratulate them every time they work out or come in under calories, but if they try a new exercise, have a really impressive session, or mention setting a new PR,…
  • After almost a full year and 60 pounds lost, I recently reached my original goal weight. Like a lot of people, I adjusted that weight, but the truth is I'm pretty much in the place I really wanted to be. Now it's about maintenance - I have fitness goals, but they're not necessarily tied to weight. I definitely share your…
  • I think you're absolutely right about the jealousy thing. By and large, most people have been incredibly complimentary and supportive of my weight loss and new lifestyle (I also went from being a couch potato to training for a half-marathon!) However, I've noticed that friends and acquaintances who have quite a bit of…
  • I'm a lifelong Atlanta Braves fan. I'm honestly not sure if there *are* any stereotypes about us! We're good people! I did have an interesting encounter with some Phillies fans not long ago that makes me want to respond to the Phillies fans above. They came to Turner Field, where the Braves were hosting the Cardinals,…
  • I'm not sure if it's specific to being gay, but I certainly was hoping that getting in shape would help me meet women. It's turned out that losing 60 pounds, going from a size 14 to a size 6 has definitely gotten me a heck of a lot more attention from straight men, but absolutely none from lesbians. Go figure! There were a…
  • What a great feeling! Good for you!
  • Wow, we wouldn't get along at the gym! I'm there to sweat and get a little bit gross, so I definitely don't put on makeup or wear super cute clothes to go take care of business at the gym... and it's annoying to me when people have loud conversations while others are trying to concentrate on their workout so we all know…
  • There are so many different types of sports drinks and energy drinks out there that it would be impossible to make a blanket statement. Personally, if I'm going for a run of more than 3 miles, I will usually have a Gatorade Prime or Herbalife Prepare about 15-20 minutes ahead of time. If my run is going to take 45-120…
  • Here's an article about that subject: http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/diet-sodas-and-weight-gain-not-so-fast As you can see, minds differ, but I tend to believe that diet sodas *do* boost sugar cravings. My experience has been that going from 1-2 Diet Cokes a day, to 1 or 2 a week has done a lot to eliminate my…
  • I'll add my name to the list of those advising you to increase your caloric intake. When I started a year ago, I was at 5'4 and 202. Now I'm at 140-144 on any given day. The scale wasn't budging at 1200 calories, but when I upped it to 1600, I started dropping like mad. Now I'm still at 1600 and losing, albeit more slowly.

  • I like both, but Greek is far better nutritionally. I personally don't mind the tart taste - I love to throw in fruit or granola or honey. If the taste or thickness is an issue for you, try doing what I do sometimes and use it in a smoothie. For instance, this morning I made this smoothie, and it's delicious! 12 oz Simply…
