  • There's almost always benefits to losing unhealthy bodyfat. My wife is pregnant with our 5th child. She is VERY active through the pregnancies (sickness permitting) yet still gains some healthy distributed bodyfat. This melt quickly after a few months of nursing. Then her abs are back, she's hot....... and ends up pregnant…
  • 20g is extremely low carb - but I have done it for a few days at a time. Basically spinach salad under a pound of meat and butter is what it is to me. Lots of protein and fat from seafood is a great way to go. Never personally known anyone to go Very Low Carb (less than 100g or) for long- whilst being very active. However…

  • Bring boiled eggs - awesome total nutrition. Canned fish dried meat (jerky) and some pemmican (fatty Native American goodness).- you can live on this for weeks. Otherwise usual dehydrated fare (potatoes, rice, stock ...) Preserved meats (with nitrates) are a good choice for a rare occasion like a camping trip. They…
  • Agreed, eat more. Days of less calories can be very beneficial. Ensure your getting nutrient rich calories all the same and NOT going hungry.
  • Chronic low intensity Cardio just stresses you out and is a waste of workout time. FBZ ? That's usually several hours after your last meal - right before breakfast. High intensity jumping around is excellent for you (plyometrics, sprints etc) quicker and may be what the FBZ is about? I lose more fat when I am sprinting -…
  • Works for me. Some/most folks have cow milk issues though. Further - I actually did BETTER on simple whole milk - no added sugar - or cocoa. Look up the GOMAD diet ;)
  • I used to believe that until I started 1-2 meals/day and intermittent fasting regularly. My physical performance and energy is now much better. But I'm pretty active and a guy. I think just try whatever helps you reach your goals. In a rut mix it up. Personally feeding less frequently is MUCH easier - not to mention the…
  • Lift heavy things 3 days a week for 30-45 mins - total body workouts. Inbetween do some sprints for cardio and ALWAYS take 1-2 days OFF a week. Go hiking / biking or something. It all depends on your goals of course - but if your an amateur looking to lose weight and gain muscle this always works well.
  • I've been eating similarly all year. Works great. IF you are bulking up then look into snacking on some protein/fat rich stuff during the day - almonds/ macadamias. and make sure you time it ( and carbs) around your weight training. enjoy :)
  • Nice work guys ;) Great to see committed X'ers. Phase 2 is going to work on endurance - feeling weak after all those pushups? Don't be too critical on your apparent lack of progress. Have a friend (better yet, a stranger) compare your before and after pics. They are much more perceptive about progress. Everybody has…
  • Doesn't sound like you are ready to fast... yet! I frequently fast -especially during Lent for 16-36hrs or so with no Ill effect. Of course I don't do Olympic lifting then either. A healthy body can easily run on stored glycogen and bodyfat. However, if you are unconditioned or previous ate a high carb/low fat diet you…
  • Raw dairy. Surprised that stuff is even legal! Oh wait.... ;) Anyways since eating more real foods I caved to dairy but prefer it unprocessed. Absolutely DIVINE - especially yoghurt.
  • Seafood fried in coconut oil. Unless you're wanting to 'snack' like a kid? then bugles.
  • That's what I'd recommend - that's what it is. 3xlifting and 3x cardio every week usually.
  • P90X got me ripped, go for it. I''ve seen all kinds of people (fat - skinny) end up looking like Spartans on that program. Try finding a BB coach for a discount (there's probably someone you know....) or hit craigslist. It's cheap for the money and gets results all the time. If you go to my profile you can see my before…
  • Water. Unless you're a 300lb Florida gator then use their original gatorade (saltwater and a pinch of sugar.) Resistance workouts require protein afterwards. Gatorade is flat soda. Have you seen the young children that drink it these days??? Shameful.
  • Gotcha! Well enjoy your trip over here to the Mecca of Industrial food products :) Please check out some real American fare - it's a fantastic place for great food if you look around. Smelt fry's are a big deal here in WI along with some good craft cheese and beer still :)
  • Obesity epidemic, type2 diabetes, atherosclerosis, hypertension? oh you mean eggbeaters? :) Egg Produced by Birds and reptiles. Ingredient: = egg Egg beaters "Real Egg Product" Produced by ConAgraFoods: Ingredients : Egg Whites, less than 1%: Natural Flavor, Color (Includes Beta Carotene), Spices, Salt, Onion Powder,…
  • I cut my yoga teeth on Bikram Yoga. Felt great. You will likely not pass out from the heat (like the current heatwave in the midwest actually). You can REALLY stretch warmed up muscles. However I would not class it as a workout, more of a therapy. Try it. You will not regret it. But give it a few tries to get used to all…
  • Most human adults are lactose intolerant. You don't NEED cows milk. There is a theoretical risk from casein too. I drink milk. Usually whole cream, as it has less lactose in it. Same with butter and hard cheeses, and fermented dairy (yoghurts). It's very nutritious for mammals - ever seen how quick a suckling calf grows -…
  • As a family we avoid sugar, flour, and industrial oils. Makes a shopping, cooking, very simple and enjoyable. Sugar is an addiction. People have a hard time just quitting it. And cheat/rewards days don't work. Every had a cheat cigarette, or cheat heroin?!?! Doesn't really help. Congratulations to all those looking to give…
  • Nope. I look at the food quality. I am largely unable to 'eat out' because of the industrial oils, added sugars and enriched flour they oversell you. I'm a good calories kinda guy :) Interesting to note how many people would change their eating style. Perhaps this'll drive food scientist to engineer negative calorie…
  • Stick to pure ones. Smuckers natural is peanuts AND salt. Most other brands a nd recipes are PB "products" with sugar and veg oil junk. Other true nut and seed butters add great variety too. We go through POUNDS of the stuff each week :)
  • Most people struggle on a 'program', but that's just life. We're not designed to be super intense for 60 days - however!!!! We're not designed to be inactive and overfat either. These short programs can help quickly change things for the better. WHY are you doing INSANITY? Figure this out and you'll get your workouts in? I…
  • Erm, I agree excess fructose is to be avoided. But most people benefit more from it's fiber, phyto-nutrients and hormetic effects. Far better to eradicate added sugar from slim-quick shakes :) and other non-foods from the diet. I personally limit tropical fruits and modern culinary fruit creations (including most apple…
  • Is it really that low? 6 teaspoons of sugar per day for women per the American Heart Association's recommendations. That's less than a can of soda! Most industrial producers and consumers don't seem aware :) Most breakfast 'cereals' are actually candy too www.americanheart.org/nutrition/sugar Their info is very helpful - I…
  • Belly fat - you're referring to the adipose tissue on top of your abdominal muscles right? This is often the LAST to go for a variety of reasons. Try this, Reduce stress ;sleep good and long, sleep some more, then sleep. Avoid sugar spikes - including tropical fruits with fructose, and processed dairy milks, avoid gluten…
  • Why? Do you feel unhealthy? Have atherosclerosis? Need to loose weight? If so, you need to cut sugars and flour (bad carbs), eat fruit and veggies(good carbs), and seafood (good fatty protein), and lift heavy things (workouts NOT timeouts). I personally eat LOTS OF DIETARY CHOLESTEROL (eggs, cream, venison etc) . My Total…
  • Barefoot. Used to use newbalance trail shoes. Now I do shorter sprints on sand or at track (one is paved). My calves were shocked but I no longer suffer fromPlantar Fasciitis and DON'T need my custom orthotics.(yay - those are expensive!) btw Very high instep . Thinking of making a pair of old school Native American Runner…
  • AVOID SUGAR AND FLOUR. Also try avoiding most carbs except leafy veggies and some non-tropical fruit. I've seen some women work WONDERS with that. NO it's NOT the ATKINS diet. But that shreds fat too. :) Oh, and get plenty of sleep.
