  • There is a fitbit group on this site, and also, fitbit's website has a community forum that might give you some helpful info. I have the fitbit ultra (bought it before the new one came out) and I love it, but have never used the sleep feature. It's not a sleep alarm, but it keeps track of how often you "wake" based on your…
  • Jockey mini skimmies slip short This might be helpful. Google it...it's like a light weight bicycle short; much lighter and more comfortable than spanx.
  • I'm 47 and haven't had pre/peri/menopause symptoms yet...but did notice my middle getting slowly wider after age 40 AND found it impossible to lose those 5 lbs that were always easy to take off by "dieting" for a week or two when I was younger. What has worked for me--I got a fitbit and set my MFP calories to 1800 per day…
  • Mine tells me that my calorie burn daily goal is 2150...and that's about what I get to if I do no "exercise" but do walk 10,000 steps. So possibly (I'm just guessing here) it's using your estimated BMR according to the weight/age stats that you enter when you get it and then adding what you would burn with 10,000 steps (I…
  • If you know that your average TDEE is 2015 (I am assuming that this is including exercise) and you want to have a calorie goal that is 10% less, then I would set MFP to 1815 per day and eat that amount regardless of what exercise you do that day. That way, on days you exercise more, you are netting lower, and on days you…
  • I can relate--same height and same goal weight, and weight didn't budge from Feb to Oct. My recommendations (based on what has started to work for me) (1) get a fitbit so you have an accurate count of your TDEE (2) figure out your calorie goal from there after using the fitbit for your normal daily activities (my calorie…
  • I have less than 10 to lose (maybe 7ish). A few weeks ago after reading about fat loss online (not mfp) I decided to set my protein to 1 gram per pound of goal weight. So I set my daily calorie goal to 1800 and experimented with the mfp macro ratios until I got to 135 grams of protein per day (my goal is actually 130 but I…

  • 3 is about what I gain too; don't stress!
  • I have a 'my mio' wrist hrm, which wasn't too expensive (amazon) and seems pretty accurate. For a 40 minute aerobic/circuit style workout, I find the fitbit calculates about 120 calories less that the HRM (for example my HRM will tell me I burned 350 cals, but if I check the numbers on the fitbit it will come to 230)...and…
  • I have a fitbit ultra and love it because I know what my TDEE is every day and can adjust my calories (slightly) if I need to. On days that I do not exercise, I make sure I get at least 10,000 steps, which gives me a tdee of 2150; on days that I do exercise I also get in the 10,000 steps, giving me a tdee of 2400 or…
  • If it feels too easy AND you have no soreness-stiffness the day after then it probably is too easy for you, maybe you're just in better condition than most people who start 30DS. I thought day 1 level 1 was easy too...but I was very sore the next day. I'm not an expert, but it seems to me that if you've got absoutely no…
  • The "come on y'all" is not annoying me...maybe because you rotate the DVDs and so are not listening to the same exact lines every day...I find it funny when he speaks in the 3rd person..."Shaun T is sweating!" Love it. At the end of pure cardio he says "That sh** is Bananas!" I always laugh at that one...mostly because a)…
  • All of those JM workouts definitely get you ready for Insanity....I was doing mostly Jillian (30DS, RI30, BFBM) and lots of walking from February to August (when I started Insanity). I found Insanity challenging but not impossible--now I haven't started the second month yet, which everyone says is much more difficult, but…
  • I loved the 30 ds and got excellent results from it (in inches lost) back in February when I did it...but that was after a long period of not working out very much. I think if you've already completed p90x, the shred might be too easy and/or might not advance you much from where you are now. However...it is still an…
  • http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/547567-my-comparison-fitbit-ultra-vs-bodymedia-fit-core If the link above works, it is a thorough comparison of both devices by a MFP member. I bought my fitbit after reading it.
  • Besides Jillian's DVDs that Kelly Coffey Meyers (it's called 30-minutes-to-fitness-weights) is my absolute favorite. You get a full-body strength training workout in a short period of time--she has pre-mixes on the menu that are great (my favorite is a 38 minute "full body blast") and you can work your way up to heavy…
  • I don't think you need to worry about your back for 30DS (maybe be careful with the pylo/jumps); but it was definitely an issue for me with Ripped in 30--there are 2 segements on that one that bothered my back--one was in level 2 (I think) that used a dumbell kind of kettle-bell style (swinging it down between your legs…
  • I did Ripped in 30 after the 30DS, but can't say I loved it. Jillian has a bad-*kitten* attitude in it...and there were parts of level 3 that really bothered my back to the extent that I was afraid I'd slip a disc or something--if I remember correctly it was some kind of move that required you to drop to the floor and roll…
  • Try unplugging the base (usb) from your computer and closing out your fitbit dashboard...wait a minute then replug the usb and log on to dashboard again. This worked for me a couple of times. One time (before trying the unplug thing) I had to uninstall the fitbit software and reinstall it (after 3 days of no syncing). But…
  • And a second one more thing ;) ...just re-read your post and you say that you are using fitbit alone (without a computer). You have to also remember that fitbit calculates your daily calories through midnight. So if you check it before you go to bed at night and it says 1800 (or whatever) you're still "burning" BMR-wise…
  • One more thing....pulling that 100 lbs of kids in a wagon: fitbit is just counting the steps, not the exertion so you're definitely burning more doing that--I'm sure you can feel it while you're doing it, no?
  • I use a fitbit too...you have to remember that exercise that does not involve stepping is not going to be accurately calculated in your fitbit calorie count for the day--so fitbit's calorie burn number is accurate for your walking, mowing and running around the house, up/down stairs, etc. But it will not give you an…
  • I second the 30 day shred advice, it really got me started re-shaping my body. Now I alternate cardio days with strength training days (squats and lunges with weights do wonders for the butt and thighs) and I am very happy with the results. Not losing weight but losing inches and toning/firming.
  • Walk a lot, swim a lot, and have fun. Sicily has amazing food so enjoy and try not to stress about it. And please try the ricotta gelato; it's heavenly.
  • Can you maybe do some light jogging (in place) for a few minutes before you start? Or how about doing her warm up and then repeating it?
  • Since you don't have much to lose, you probably won't see much of a loss (in pounds) with 30DS...but unless you are already very toned you will most likely see inches lost. It sounds like you have just started level 2 (since you're on day 13)--I had a similar experience: lost a couple in level 1, gained those back in level…
  • I think it depends on your budget. If $100 is a lot for you and if you've already got an HRM then I don't think it's worth it...I've only had mine about a week and got it to calculate my TDEE (so I can experiment with increasing my calories). As it turns out, the fitbit stats are not much off from what I've been getting…
