Did a seven mile hike in the mountains yesterday. I couldn't have done that 4 months ago.

The hardest thing for me is snacking in the evening. We basically got rid of all the junk food in the house, and that helped quite a bit. I've lost just over 40 pounds and I guess keeping in mind that this has to be a life long change, not a diet. Differently? Hmmm....adding more exercise to go with the healthy eating.

Engine 2 cookbook has great recipes. Have loved almost all of them so far.

Just recently (last 2 months) moved to a whole food, plant based diet. It's been working well for me.

Add me as well. Love to join.

It was this summer for me. I watched my father in law go through a heart attack, open heart surgery, and then a stroke. He lost a portion of his vision, and can no longer drive. In addition to all of that he's diabetic as well. I helped take care of him and saw the amount of meds he had to take everyday, and that was it…

I'm not sure trying to do it quickly for any reason (let alone a shallow partner) is the best idea. Slow and steady. Think of it as something that will improve your overall health rather than just your weight. Think of not just calorie intake, but nutritional value of the food as well. Feel free to add me if you'd like…

Welcome. Been logging my food here for almost 3 months, and it really makes a difference. My wife and I went the route of making a big change (going to a whole foods, plant based way of eating). It's been easier for us with none of the foods we can't eat in the house. Feel free to friend me for additional support.

You can do it! Feel free to add me as a friend. I'm just getting going here again as well.

Watched my father in law go through a quadruple by pass, and have a stroke. Don't want to put my wife and kids through that.

Any extra motivation would be awesome!

I don't know if it happen to everyone, but it certainly happens to me. I think the best thing is to repurpose yourself and not let it get you down. My biggest mistake is (was) letting it go on for more than one day, that's when you really get into trouble. You can do it!

Bring a small towel to wipe machines down after use, lock, water. If you plan on using their showers then you'll need all of that stuff also. Many gyms will give first time members a tour and some lessons on how to use machines etc, ask about it when you arrive.
-
What about low intensity weight training. I use machines at the gym called hoist. They seem to keep your body in the proper position and there is almost no jerking. A very smooth workout.

I actually do run 5 days a week. I mix the distances...5miles some days...a quicker 3 mile one day....long 7 mile one day. I'll do rare elliptical workout or a long walk or hike sometimes also.
-
Welcome! Feel free to friend me. I love to run also and went from struggling to run a 5k just 6 months ago to a normal daily run of nearly 10k. You can do it!
-
If you haven't trained at all feel free to walk as much as you need to. You'll see plenty of people out there walking. I took several walk breaks on my first 5k (about 7 months ago) and still had fun. It's much better to go out and do a walk/jog than to try to jog all of it, be miserable and maybe hurt yourself.…

I'm a San Diego native and you might want to run "at" the beach instead of "on" the beach. There is a bike/running path that stretches for about 9 miles and is an awesome place to run. Send me a message if you want more info.

I feel like the calories that I'm allowed to eat and still lose weight are not enough so I exercise almost every day and eat back most of the calories.
-
Are you measuring your food or just estimating portion sizes? Are you recording ALL of your food? Are your exercise calories accurate? These are the things I would look at.
-
In this site you input your exercise separately from your general activity level so I'd probably leave it the way it is.
-
Even though the shoes feel good you might not have a good fit. Doesn't seem like you should blister after a few miles if your shoes fit properly.
-
Welcome and congrats and making the decision. You'll find great information and people here to support you!

Take it slow and build your mileage over time. You can google Hal Higdon and Jeff Galloway. Both are running gurus and there should be several workouts on their sites. Pretty soon the longer distance will be second nature. 6 months ago I had a hard time running a 5k, now my daily workout is 5miles ...10-13 mile run every…
