  • Sadly this is 100% true, I wish it wasn't but it is.
  • I can't help with strips as I am in the UK. Your BG reading when you felt unwell was very high, I think you are very sensible to be pro-active. I wish you all the very best.
  • Oops sorry. :flowerforyou:
  • You're quite right we are not Doctors or trained in medicine. Some of us have a lot of experience with diabetes either personally or through communities. However, my post seems to have ticked you off which is fine, I will back away. Good luck.
  • Thank you. I know that sometimes it's so easy to feel so angry that we have diabetes and say bo**ocks to it. Usually I can have those feelings, and go and make something low carb, that will fix the cravings. This time I did reach I did buy and I did eat. I am hoping the carb cravings I am having will be a timely reminder…

  • I am co-owner of a diabetes website (moderator please remove this if it is against policy) http://www.eattoyourmeter.org/forum/index.html What we find is, so many diabetics are diagnosed, given Metformin then sent on there merry way with little or no real information. This dies not apply to all, but to the majority. Then…
  • I love cheese and it's so low carb it's a perfect snack food. I eat it almost daily. I have lost over 100 pounds, so it has never effected my weight loss.
  • I am diabetic so can't have sugar and have to seriously restrict carbs. I have only binged once (fear for my health not so much will power :-)). My binge was only a few days ago and was a whole, yes a whole fruitcake. I adore fruitcake, but can't have it, so my binge while soooo good is going to have to be a really yummy…
  • 200 or 11.11mmol/l (UK measurements) is far too high. In the UK we are advised never to go above 7 (126 US) after a meal. I have never reached those levels but if I do eat something high in carbs then the tingling starts in my little fingers so I know. I then down loads of water and do some HIIT to bring it down. As soon…
  • It seems that you're suffering from dawn phenomenon. When you are about to wake your liver releases a dose of glucose into the body to give you the energy to start your day, and also so you can eat and replace energy. I suffered quite a bit with DP and asked around in support forums. The answers I got was that this is…
  • I had no side effects either, we are lucky. You could ask your Doctor to prescribe the slow release version, they often help with gastric problems. Good luck.
  • Thank you, I do (usually) work really hard to keep very tight control. Complications scare me. Extra slaps work well too. :-) I am dreading the next few days, will I get carb flu again, will the cravings be really hard, will I give in? I think given a choice I would rather have carb flu and really suffer cravings than give…

  • I don't have a very large appetite either, 1,200 is my usual intake per day. As I know I only eat small amounts meals usually have to be planned carefully in advance, or at least they did initially. Now as I tend to eat pretty samey, I know what will give me a wide range of the nutrients I need. I would say to those of us…
  • I have quite a bit of loose skin around the middle. I use a body scrub when I am in the shower, then rub in Aloe Vera at bed time. This is supposed to help the circulation, and tighten up the skin. I will confess, if I can't get rid of it once I am at goal and maintained for a while I will have surgery.

  • You're truly not the only one who feels this way. I have lost over 100 pounds in almost 15 months and dropped from a 22 to a 14 (UK sizes) but I struggle to see the difference. So many things prove I have lost this weight, seeing it in myself is a whole different ball game. It will happen, I know it will, it just hasn't…
  • ...You climb into the bath and rather than being wedged in, you have lots of room to move around. :-)
  • Sooo true. I think we all want to be leaner, healthier happier quickly so hunt around for quick fixes. The truth is there are none, slow and steady is the only way. Great post.
  • I agree with this. Your courage is astounding, and your pain can only be guessed but you have decided to grab the nettle. Let your therapist help you with the emotional issues, and MFP could be a tool to help you with the health/weight issue. Take things slowly, your whole being needs to heal, I am sure there are few here…
  • I have the same problem. I read (somewhere) when in the shower use a body scrub then, before you go to bed rub in some aloe vera. I have been doing this for a short while. The idea is, the massage helps get the circulation flowing, and can tighten up the loose skin. In my case I think it may need surgery as initially I…
  • Oh my gosh, what a difference, it's truly amazing. Well done you!! :-)
  • This made me smile. You show how the mind can change, the cravings can change and in return our bodies change. Well done, keep up the fabulous work. :-)
  • I don't eat bread, so I cut a smallish avocado in half and pop each half onto a slice of ham or lettuce, voila a really tasty snack.
  • 5.3 (95.4 US) today, around normal for me.
  • 4 Chicken portions 2 tablespoon(s) Parmasan cheese 2 teaspoon(s) Garam masala 1 teaspoon(s) Garlic salt 0.5 teaspoon(s) Salt 1 teaspoon(s) Black pepper 0.5 teaspoon(s) Ground Arrowroot 10 grams Lard Put the lard (I eat Primal so lard is my fat of choice, you can change this to your own choice) into a frying pan, mix all of…

  • 47 with two daughters, one 16 one thirteen. I have lost over 100 pounds since being diagnosed diabetic in March last year. I feel better than I can ever remember and life is great. I am in the UK, I eat ultra low carb Primal but I don't ever push my lifestyle choices onto anyone. :-) Feel free to add me, together we can…
  • I eat ultra low carb (under 25g a day) if my low carb lifestyle can help feel free to add me. :-)
  • Try to log every single day, being accountable really does make a difference. Take just a few minutes to log each meal in advance then you can see how your calories are doing, and bump up or reduce things to meet your macro target. I agree, you CAN do this. :-)
  • Do keep asking for help and support, just filter away the posts that are unhelpful then use the advice that you think may help. Often I just skip posts as I have shaken my head so many times, I'm surprised it's not loose. :-)
  • I eat Primal ultra low carb (under 25g a day). Feel free to add me if being so low carb would be any help to you. :-)
