  • Intervals should be one of the programs on the elliptical machine. Alternates between two inclines. But I second the comment you need to be lifting some weights. Try out a few of the weight machines. Also are you eating back your excercise calories?
  • Currently one of my snacks is venison jerky get at the farmers market. Of curse I have no idea the calories or sodium, so my dairy selection may or may not be accurate. I imagine not all jerky is created equal
  • You need to eat back your excercise calories.
  • This is from the Polar website but it makes sense. So your heart rate is used to determine how hard you are working. "The amount of energy expended during exercise depends on exercise intensity and duration. The higher the intensity and the longer the duration, the greater the energy expenditure. Energy expenditure is also…

  • Completely true, but I had to start eating carbs again to stop losing weight. Now the goal is not to gain.
  • How much sugar?
  • This is going to sound weird but I bet avocado would work. The texture is the part you are trying to replicate. A local bar does a avocado daiquiris that is sweet. It sounds weird but it is really good.
  • Lentils are a legume and you almost always have to buy them dried. They should be near the dried beans. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lentil

  • The March issue of Clean Living had ways to use left over lentils. The Lentil Walnut Pate was very good. 1 cup cooked lentils 1/2 cup raw walnuts 1 clove garlic salt pepper Olive oil Grind walnuts in the food processor. Add the lentils and garlic. Add the olive oil 1 Tbsp at a time through the hole in the feeding tube.…

  • You can change your goal on MFP to maintaining. Use MFP to help you.
  • I lot of people on this site have chosen to ignore sugar from fruit. However, fructose is fructose and while fruit is a better source it is still sugar. http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/whattoeat/a/whatfruit.htm
  • I get the tuna that is canned in its own juices, so I dont need to add anything. However, I have been known to mash an avocado into the tuna when I want that creamy mouth feel.
  • I usually eat a handful of almonds before my workout, but I workout in the aftenoon. I just need a little boost until dinner.
  • Grain poisons cows and that is why they are feed antibiotics. It is all about the kind of fat they produce omega 6 vs 3. Love grass feed beef.
  • You should track sugar as well. So you can see how many of your calories are sugar. Sugar calories don't fill you up and if you are insulin resistant as mentioned above, sugar will make you fill more hungry.
  • GREAT page. Thanks. I may have to put this link in my signature. So many people post about sugar on this site and about ignoring sugar from fruit. If you are over you are over, it doesn't matter where it comes from. Love this page.
  • Your body needs Glucose not Fructose. Sugar is half and half.
  • I was the same way when I cut out sugar. Carrots were my candy. I have added sugar back in and now I have cravings once in a while. I am considering cutting it out again, but this time allowing myself starches.
  • Here is a gluten free hemp protein powder. I have no idea what hexane is. http://nutiva.com/products/hemp-protein-powder-organic/ Ingredients: 100% raw organic hemp protein powder. NO hexane, gluten, dairy, lactose or sweeteners.
  • I like Rainbow Light. It is Gluten, dairy AND Soy free. Pretty much the only one I can use. I usually mix the chocolate at 1 scoop to 2 cups of hemp milk. I also use an immersion blender. Just tried the Açai this morning and may go to a half and half with the chocolate.…
  • Try finding your real max HR first. Everyone is different, so here are some ways to find it. http://www.marathon-training-schedule.com/maximum-heart-rate.html
  • http://www.sciencefriday.com/program/archives/200908285 This is an interesting podcast about raw food calories vs cooking/processed calories.
  • I use Rainbow Light because it is soy, dairy and gluten free (all things I can't eat). I mix 1 scoop with 2 cups unsweetened hemp milk for an additional dose of protein. The ratio on the package is too thick for me. I get it at Fred Meyers health food section.
  • Very interesting article http://motherjones.com/environment/2011/03/fructose-sugar-hfcs# Here is the most interesting paragraph. "Unlike glucose, which the body stores in various tissues for use as fuel, fructose is sent to the liver for processing. Robert Lustig, a pediatric endocrinologist at the University of…
  • Going to the local Hardy Plant Society sale this weekend. Have tomato seedling growing in my basement. No reallly those are tomato plants  Peas in the ground, radishes growing. It is in August when I start losing steam. Need to do better with my fall garden. Yes I am a garden nerd. Feel free to friend me.
  • Just started making baked parsnip chips. Cut thin coat with oil of your choice and bake in the oven until brown on the edges. We have a year round farmers market, so it is nice to have a new way to use root vegetables.
  • If itis a chest strap kind you need to wet the pads a little before puttng it on. Then it needs to sit right under your "girls". The strap is like an EKG and reads the electrical pulses caused when your heart beats. It then relays this data to the watch. http://running.about.com/od/gear/p/heartratemonitr.htm
