  • I have lymphodema of the breast following breast cancer surgery and manage it with massage (lymph nodes etc). A local hospice offered a massage programme using a vibrating tool which really helped. Be sure to take advice on massage techniques that you can apply yourself and use them regularly - they can and do often help a…
  • Bumpety bump. Some great winter warming recipes on here - too good to be missed.
  • Bolognese ragu over 175g whole green beans and 100g julienne carrot (both steamed) topped with half fat creme fraiche, cherry tomatoes and chilli flakes. Pudding tonight is two Cornetto type ice cream cones and a bag of Thai, chilli and lime baked crisps.
  • 240 cals throughout the day on milk for tea and sugar-free sweets (candies) if I want one, and my first proper meal at 6pm (usually around the 500 cal area) and the rest on ice-cream or baked crisps whilst watching Netflix :) 1200 total.
  • As an experiment, last night I used a tablespoon (15ml) to measure out and then weigh water, single cream and skimmed milk. A full spoonful of each weighed exactly the same on my scale in both grams and mls. I'll continue to weigh my liquids as I do all my other foods.
  • 60g jumbo oats made with water and topped with single cream, a handful of blueberries and a spoonful of sugar sprinkled on the top. My new favourite evening dessert.

  • I use skimmed milk which is pretty much like water, density-wise, so I think the ml measurements in this case will be pretty accurate.
  • I weigh liquids in mls - my scale gives me that option, but I take your point.
  • It's a liquid with calories - why wouldn't I weigh it? 140cals of my 1200 a day are 'spent' on milk for tea.
  • For the UK-based, Space Raiders (baked corn snacks) at 58 cals a pack. My local supermarket does them in beef or my fave, pickled onion. My new addiction :)
  • Re Kyle's book - can you not purchase a PDF copy and convert a copy for Kindle use with Calibre?
  • I don't eat my first meal until 6pm. I prefer to save my calories for the evening when I generally hungrier than during the day. Lost 6-stone this way and am healthier than ever.
  • Carrot/celery sticks dunked in a half fat creme fraiche and sriracha sauce dip with a cup of tea :) .
  • I've used the konjac noodles twice now, both times in a stir fry. After following online advice, I rinsed them really well several times then put them in a hot pan to evaporate some of the moisture which adds to their rubber band texture. Then added them to spicy stir fries and they've bulked them out nicely without any…
  • I don't eat my first meal until 6pm so I can stretch my 1200 calories further. I then have a nice, nutritious and large meal, followed by some not-so-nutritious snacks in the evening :) Works really well for me.
  • 10 years without my gallbladder now and I eat the same way I did before, but with a mind to calories (6 stone down now). Since having my gallbladder removed, I can eat fats, spicy food, fried food or any of the stuff I couldn't eat before without any negative affect. I'm glad that everything is 'perfect' for you - it is…
  • I've lost the same 5+ stone many times in my life, but the trigger for three of those times I remember well. The first was when I knocked my 18-month son flying halfway across the room with my backside when I bent down and he was behind me and I hadn't realised. The second was a picture of me on a camel in Tunisia (I know,…
  • I eat this way, but not for health reasons or for IF 'benefits' but simply because it works for me. I can happily fit in my treats and a really nice meal and feel content and full at the end of it. I eat my first meal at around 6pm or thereabouts, and finish a while later with an ice cream or crisps or chocolate or…
  • There is a great Volume Eaters thread here. Check it out for some great tips. :)
  • I've read elsewhere that even though it's on their website, it seems to be mainly stocked at the moment in the Express stores, rather than the bigger ones. Just a matter of time though, I think.
  • Apparently Tesco have started selling Halo Top ice cream here in the UK, for those that may be interested. I am, but they don't stock it in my local store yet. Quite glad actually, at £5 a tub, it's not something I want to really get into.
  • Tonight, all in my 1200 cal allowance, I have budgeted for 3 fun-size Mars bars (frozen, to prolong the ecstasy), 2 bags of baked crisps and a Cornetto style ice-cream. Lost nearly 6-stone so far, so I'm doing something right :)
  • It's not what I want from intermittent fasting. What I want is to be able to use most of my cals in the evening when I find I'm hungrier than during the day. It's a calorie intake/timing restriction for me, nothing more.
  • Oh, please, no. You don't need to 'confuse' your metabolism. Simply including a 'refeed' or 'diet break' occasionally, if appropriate for your circumstances, is enough to keep you on track as you near your goal. A good thread to read is 'of refeeds and diet breaks' which discusses this in depth.
  • I eat my first meal at 6pm. I have no problem fasting during the day and use IF as a tool to give me more calories for a nice evening meal and snacks afterwards. Works very well for me (nearly 6 stone down). I don't stick to any 'IF rules' - I just do it because it suits my lifestyle.
  • Please listen to the good advice here. You should be eating at least at maintenance whilst recovering from an op (I have experience here). Your body needs the fuel to help you heal - don't make it harder for your body to repair the damage by crimping its fuel lines. Best of luck with your surgery. :)
  • Today's weigh-in: Down from 167.4 yesterday to 166.6 today.
  • "Consolation boots" - I read that wrong and my mind went off in a whole different direction, haha. It may be imagination, but I'm feeling a little relief from the first dose of Prenisolone already. Fingers crossed.
  • Thanks for the heads up re water gain - it's good to be forewarned. Doc did mention increased energy and to take the full dose in the morning (although had to take today's dose later afternoon). I think the drowsy effect of the Piriton might be damping that down a bit - I hope so for the sake of my beauty sleep tonight. My…
  • Well, I thank you (as I'm sure your friends do to) for being my glittery boot purchase enabler, although my bank manager may not feel the same way. Glittery kitten heels for life, haha. Unfortunately, my eyes are so swollen I can barely see them. Back from docs with Prednisolone now, so the heavy hitters are in force. The…
