  • For me the key is high-quality protein for breakfast. And, again for me, that does not include milk or other dairy even though there is protein in those things. But something like two eggs, sometimes with a piece of breakfast sausage but not always (and usually always with some fruit) will hold me until lunch time. And…
  • Personally I don't worry too much about fruit carbs. I guess I might if I was eating ten pieces every day or something like that, but I'm not. More of a carb problem for me are "white" carbs -- bread, rice, potatoes...but especially bread and baked goods. lol.
  • For me, if I'm really truly hungry -- i.e., my stomach is rumbling -- then I'll eat a snack or whatever meal it's time for. If it's close to a meal then I just ignore it as best I can. --- But if I'm not really hungry and am just feeling like I need to eat something, which is often a craving for something sweet after I've…
  • I'm thinking this whole posting thing is too complicated for me. :p Now I can't even find my original post to copy and paste it. Maybe I'll just start a new post every day without copying the previous one. So, 1/4 224.4, down from 228 on January 1. That's typical for me so I'm not overly excited although I'll take it!…
  • Yes, that does help, thanks! Also, our dogs look very much alike. :)
  • So in order to update every day I'd have to just start a new post? every day? Which would mean that every person participating would have multiple posts? I mean, I see some people have already put in info for January 3rd and that's what I don't understand how to do since I can't edit my original post. I know I'm dumb with…
  • Can someone please tell me how to edit my original post? I don't see anywhere to click to do that. Obviously there has to be a way since we need to update our progress but I don't seem to have an edit button.
  • Okay, can someone PLEASE tell me how to find this thread easily? And how to find my post within it? I see back at the beginning of the thread it said to use the search feature...but when I put my name into that nothing shows up, at least nothing that's very helpful... it's basically a list of everything I've posted or…
  • I'd like to join this one. :) I've just returned to MyFitnessPal after being away for awhile. I've gained a lot of weight and now NEED to lose it because my a1c is almost to the diabetes level according to my doctor. :( I've browsed the challenges and I like this 10-day one because 10 days seems so doable. Get through 10…
  • I'm not officially diagnosed with it like you are, but I am pre-diabetic. I think it's related...? -- Anyway, if I eat something like cold cereal or toast for breakfast I'll get that sudden drop mid-morning. If I eat eggs, cheese, peanut butter, meat, etc. then I'm fine until lunch. Basically I eat no grain-type carbs in…
  • Personally I never worry if I come out below my calories (rare) because I am 100% that I'm not always accurate with measuring. I try, but I know there are extra calories sneaking in. Or, not "sneaking in" exactly..but for example, I had a gin and tonic this evening. I use diet tonic and gin itself doesn't have a…
  • Give up coffee?? omg... :o No. Just no. However...I have cut down a bit on my coffee calories. I like International Delights, several flavors (and Pumpkin Spice season is coming up soon, and Peppermint Mocha after that!), and I just slowly started adding less. I will never give it up entirely but less has worked.
  • Funny how that works. lol. I can focus for ages if I'm reading a good mystery novel, but put some dull history (I like history, just not the dull kind) or economics textbook in front of me and all I can think of is a snack. hahaha  But...OP, I think the key is eating enough protein. You can still eat at your…
  • Yeah, I can relate to the International Delights coffee creamer. And pumpkin spice season is coming soon! ack! lol That said...I have cut down on mine quite a bit. The first thing I did was actually measure what I was putting in my cup (usually I just pour until the color is right). Well that was an eye opener! :o Once I…
  • Utz brand rippled potato chips. Salty and crunchy....mmmmmmm. Basically any potato chip is bad news for me, but those Utz rippled ones are the worst. So I just don't bring them into the house. Every once in awhile we go to Subway and I will get a bag of chips there to go with my sub. But that's it.
  • For me, I personally distinguish between general carbs (fruit, vegetables, beans) and "white" carbs (bread, crackers, white rice, baked goods). I know people who eat very low carb will cut out most carbs but I'm not doing that. I have a hard time with bread etc. because I tend to eat too much of it. It also spikes my blood…
  • A kitchen scale! Weighing everything, not just measuring, is a real eye-opener. And I weigh everything in grams which makes it easy to put exact amounts into the tracker here because there's always a 1-gram choice on the list.
  • Wine = fruit = good healthy eating.
  • Healthy eating = fruit, vegetables, dairy, meat, some grains (I say "some" because I tend to overeat those, so I limit what's available), a glass of wine, and dark chocolate every once in awhile.
  • Can't be any calories in Tabasco...it's too spicy. So therefore no calories.
  • I have just started this also, based on recommendations from a friend who is a medical doctor. She looked into the research and said it really makes sense, especially for people who may be insulin resistant. I had a high a1c last time I was at the doctor...not quite high enough for her to call me a type 2 diabetic but high…
  • I googled. Apparently it's the opposite of that....you only eat eggs, butter, and oil. omg.
  • Good of course. I mean, everything is better with bacon. Except maybe that bacon-flavored ice cream I heard about. That sounds icky.
  • Yes, I learned about doing it that way in a Facebook group I belong to. Just be aware that butternut squash skin is thinner than we might expect. I thought it would sort of fall off, like sweet potato skin for example. But it didn't, I had to pull it off with a knife. Fortunately I have a silicon glove so I could hold the…
  • Yes, that. lol. I'd be Skinny Minny if I lost weight when I was shivering from cold. -- Or, conversely, it seems like sweating a lot in the summer could also take weight off. You know, like those sauna things only this is all the time outside. Yeah, I complain about weather in winter and summer. I do love fall and spring…
  • I just joined this group and look forward to sharing some good recipes! I just made soup last night and it was delicious. I didn't really follow a recipe though... Butternut Squash Soup Ingredients are: butternut squash, onion, carrots (only because I had two that were almost going to be thrown away), apple, ginger, salt,…
  • Not too early in my book. lol. Sometimes I'll sit here in the evening watching "Jeopardy" which comes on at 7:30 here, and I'll say to my dh "so, is it too early to go to bed yet?" lol He'll always say "wait till after Final Jeopardy". haha I often go into bed very early but usually read or play an iPad game for awhile. If…
  • I agree, don't eat if you're not hungry. Just keep the rest of your morning in mind and plan accordingly. For example, I'm a substitute teacher most days. If I haven't taken a job for a particular day and I know I'll be home then I don't eat anything but my coffee until maybe 9:30 or even 10:00 which is when I'm naturally…
  • Of course rice cakes are dangerous! I mean, a plain one tastes like cardboard -- so, slather on that peanut butter! hehehehe {peanut butter in any form... for me, it's dangerous because I can eat too much without realizing, which is of course the point of using a scale, which I do.}
