  • If you're in the US it's on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Dgrocery&field-keywords=xylitol&sprefix=xylitol%2Caps%2CNaN
  • Breakfast - Bagel/dry packet of oatmeal/those little individual cereal boxes from elementary school to middle school. I hate all of that to this day. In HS I had one of those gas station French vanilla latte machine drinks if I had breakfast at all. Lunch- Ice cream cone for lunch in elementary school. French fries & a…
  • Yeah, meat free since 2001. There's a vegetarian keto sub on reddit that is mostly dead but occasionally posts great recipes.
  • 1) Eggs 2) Extra virgin olive oil 3) Avocados 4) Lettuce 5) Bell peppers 6) Peanut butter (no sugar, no salt, ground in front of me) 7) Water 8) Multivitamins 9) Salt That's what's available to me at the moment. Tomorrow I'm going on a 6 hour jaunt to the capital to try to find cheese (and cat litter)!
  • 31lb since getting back on track at the end of April, 18lb of that since starting keto on May 25. I only pay attention to net carbs and I've averaging 13g there, with the lowest day being 3g and the highest 31g.
  • I'm 5'6 and it took 15lb for me to go from a 12 to a 10. I'm waiting patiently for my size 8 jeans from 7 For All Mankind to fit again.
  • I didn't believe it was an option until recently. So many vegetarian options are so carb heavy. But lately I've been reading the vegetarian keto sub over on reddit and there are so many things I can't wait to try when I get back to the US.
  • Oh yeah, plenty of rice, yams, cassava, and tinned tomato concentrate. Accra is great. It reminds me of Johannesburg. I'm about 6 hours away from there now but I go down to get cat litter every 2 or 3 months. I was going to go last week for litter and cheese- oh how I miss cheese- but there was a massive flood there and…
  • I'm K; just joined this group 2 days ago. I'm 28/F/5'6/161lb and a vegetarian keto-er. I used to live in South Africa (hence the name k-in-rsa) but now I'm in rural Ghana. It's very, very hard to do low carb in rural Ghana, but I'm looking forward to moving back to the US in a few months. About 2.5 years ago I was very…
  • Sadly that's not true. It was one of the first things I tried when I moved from the US to South Africa. It goes the same way. The Simpsons lied to me.
  • Rural Ghana, West Africa... I'm jealous of all the nice food the rest of you have.
  • I had ferrets in high school. They only smelt bad when it was my brother's turn to clean up after them. If you keep their cages clean they don't smell but you have to clean the cage about every 2-3 days. They have a huge range of personalities, too, so spend time with a couple of them before you decide which one you want.…
  • I've been doing it for the past 11 days. I've lost 7lb (water weight, yeah, yeah). I've been getting really full on around 800 - 1000 calories and making myself eat more. I love that the food is so filling. The big downside for me is the sugar cravings, but I suppose I'd likely be having those anyway. I haven't given in so…
  • I was in RSA when I started at MFP (though I am originally from the US). Now I'm in Ghana. I miss RSA a lot.
  • Yeah, the prejudice in this thread is strong. Who said OP wanted to impress some guy? Maybe she wants it because she likes the look of it. I doubt she cares what anonymous people on the internet think about how it looks. OP, I'm 5'6 with an hourglass figure, so I have decent sized hips. I get a thigh gap somewhere around…

  • Usually goes like this: Breakfast 300 - 400 calories Lunch 800ish calories Dinner 300 - 400 calories. Lunch is almost always my biggest meal. Sometimes I skip dinner because I'm still full from having such a huge lunch.
  • I'm training to do it as well! But my hike won't be until 2016 at the earliest. Are you going SOBO this year or planning to start your thru another year?
  • We had a class about this one day in the Army. It came down to evening being best in terms of preventing injuries but morning was better for a lot of other reasons. There were a lot of pros and cons for both. I like mornings because it gets super hot in rural Ghana really fast, plus the whole rest of the day I feel good…
  • The Dionne quintuplets- the first surviving set of quintuplets. I saw a movie about them when I was 6 and became oddly fascinated by what really messed up lives they had/have. And for some reason I wanted to go to Nashville more than I wanted to go to Disneyworld. Never went to either. I loved the Little House on the…
  • I just moved up from 10ks to 15ks and half marathons. It's scary to make the jump to the next level but if you've run an 8k I think you'll be fine on a 10k. And there's plenty of time to train before April. Just remember- if you slow your run down you can run farther.
  • I did my frist half marathon last Sunday. I made sure I could run for 2 hours without stopping (very, very, very slowly) about 3 weeks before the race. I finished (with no walking) in 2 hours and 41 minutes. I did a little bit of speed work (running as fast as I could for 30 minutes, 3 days a week) 2 weeks before the race,…
  • Chuck Boy Meets World Lost Animaniacs House
  • I've just started seeing them available online in South Africa but I haven't found them in any shops yet. Our postal service is notorious for "losing" packages so I'm waiting to see it in the shops. I'm going back to the US for a few months in 2013 & I'm excited about the availability of all the things I can't get in SA. :)
  • My dad wouldn't let me have ranch or mayo when I was a kid because he said it'd make me fat. I loved the stuff but stopped eating it when he said that. I love peanut butter but 100 calories for a tbsp of anything is ridiculous. There are crackers here called Salticrax (heh, the name is funny). I can and have eaten the…
  • 1) Apples 2) Egg whites 3) Broccoli 4) Vegetable atchar 5) Watermelon 6) Avocados 7) Oatmeal 8) Sugar free Jello 9) Peanut butter 10) Carrots <-- the only thing I hate but eat a lot of because they're healthy & easy to add to meals
  • I don't know if it's still on but WordGirl on PBS is definitely watchable. The Magic School Bus series was on PBS a few years ago as well. I miss Animaniacs. I buy the series dvds for all my friends' kids when they hit about 6 years old.
  • 1) The infrastructure for mass production/distribution isn't here so nearly all our food is local, organic & free range. 2) South Africa is big on nature preserves (compared to the US) so I don't have to go far to get out of the city. 3) I swear I can't explain it but the sky is bigger & the sun warmer in SA. 4) It's…
  • I read a running website that recommended that beginners run at a pace that could be matched by an arthritic sloth. Slowing down my runs really helped my form and increased my distance. I found I could run longer and longer. I went from being able to run 5k (barely) to being able to run just over 15k easily in about 4…
  • I've been having the same problem the last two weeks since I relaxed on my workouts. Normally I cycle 9 miles to work & 9 miles home with a backpack full of work clothes. It means getting up an hour earlier but once I get into the habit of it that's no big deal. If I can't do that I'll get up early go for a quick 30 minute…
  • My mother is one of the most emotional women I know. As for me, the last time I cried was 2 years ago after a bad breakup & I was drunk. I've gone in the complete opposite direction. People can generally tell if I'm happy but the only way you'd know if I was upset or angry or anything else would be to ask.
