  • I am not a very organized or motivated person. I just commit each day and try to be kind to myself....... not beat myself up the days I skip my exercises I only have to do my food today and if i get in my exercise, good. I think this winter is really getting me down.... am so sick of snow and the cold. I need to learn to…
  • caloriecount.about.com has alot more exercise listed than MFP. I joined MFP due to a friend being on here and find it much easier to use but for exercise the database at about.com has alot more info. There are probably other websites also to use that has more? fitcity looks good, and I joined but I can't figure out how to…
  • They have Jillian Michael's 30 day shred and last chance workout on youtube. Not sure about the one you are asking bout.
  • What does MFP recommend you have for calories? There are lots of posts on forums for other sites on BMR, TDEE, etc. etc. At 5'7" and guessing I would think 1600 calories with 45 min. exercise a day should get you to 1 to 2 lbs loss a week. Do some research, start logging your food and go from there. Just commit to logging…
  • Tried straw bale gardening last year. Did very well, but this year going to just make no till gardens out of them. Was quite the adjustment moving from Boston area to Iowa! Things went crazy. Had way too much stuff! Couldn't keep up with it. Looking forward to this year being lighter and stronger and I will keep up with…
  • I use almond milk. 30 calories a cup. Almost water! I like the taste compared to water. Makes it creamy.
  • I think goals help. I love to garden but the last few years has been brutal. I have no energy and getting up and down off the ground? You gotta be kidding me. So knowing I will be able to last longer and feel better about it helps me get moving now. Another goal I have is a friend of mine has challenged me to run a 5k with…
  • There is alot of info on loose skin. The advice I like best is lose weight slowly and strength train. I like ab work and I am unfortunately losing incredibly slowly, so not concerned about loose skin! I think the younger you are the skin tends to be more elastic also. Most the forums that I have read re: loose skin are…
  • Don't think it really matters what time of day you do it as long as you do exercise. I usually do mid morning or afternoon or evening. Usually wait 40 min. after I eat. Depends how much exercise you are doing also. I don't do as much as some people. I usually do 2 to 3 miles of Leslie Sansone daily and then 3xs a week toss…
  • I exercise so I can do more. I am tired of wanting to garden and having to take a break in 15 min. And this spring am redoing my fence that was badly put in by some yahoos last summer. At 56 and fat and out of shape I am too dang young to be feeling this weak. So I will keep lifting and doing my ab work for ME cuz I like…
  • Youtube and hasfit.com hasfit is on youtube. I like youtube cuz you can see most of em on the TV (smart tv or xbox, etc) I don't do the hasfit as the ones I have seen has you getting up and down off the floor too many times. I am very slow and getting up and down, but getting better!
  • Lots of 50 year olds on here! I have found some wonderful friends on here who are supportive and comment on my diary! But these people are serious about their journey and have been very successful in losing weight. I have learned so much from reading their diaries, both food and exercise! Age isn't that important. As long…
  • Beautiful picture. Thank you for sharing!
  • youtube has leslie sansone. I started with her beginning walk. Its very slow but when you have not done any exercise for years was what I needed. Now I do ab work, weights, and still Leslie, but her harder walks and I am jogging while she's walking cuz I have a goal of being able to jog 2 miles in June. I know probably a…
  • You have lost 15 lbs in 5 weeks! Wow, that is freaking unreal. Hope this crazy lady you went to is not in Iowa. I would rip her a new orifice and maybe take names afterwards. I have only lost 25 lbs in 5 MONTHS! And I feel pretty damn good about it. Don't let one person throw you off. You are doing EXCELLENT! Its a life…
  • I set my goal weight at 160. Am 5'4". Never weighed over 130 till I had kids at 37, but I worked hard at maintaining that weight and I am a bit older now at 56. I once got down to 170 and I felt good, could to pullups, etc. So I might want to reconsider when i reach 160 and go for 145 but I just want to be healthy. I don't…

  • I had loss a couple lbs before joining MFP, Saw Dr. end of August and was at 245, joined MFP Sept 15. Was at 242, I put down 245 to give myself a bit more motivation. But was only a couple lbs, its up to you! You have accomplished alot! I joined cuz a friend did and he had lost 70 lbs but was stuck on last 20. He has kept…
  • I am going to do one in June with a friend! Never done a race before. My goal was to run 2 miles w/out needing to walk for June so why not? And I will still be very heavy. You are farther than me in being in shape. i just started doing Leslie Sansone beginning of this month, as it is too cold and nasty for being outside! I…
  • I don't mean to get in your business, but you might need more support for the drinking than you can get here. Friend of mine was always a social drinker but in his mid thirties he became a full blown alcoholic. Could give up drinking for a week, move onto controlled drinking then back to drinking nightly (alot). Very sad…
  • When I get down to 210 I am going to buy 10 lb weights and at 185 going to buy myself a nice bicycle. Also I am going to run a 5k race with a friend in June. Dunno if that is a reward but its something I have never done before, so the accomplishment in itself will be a reward!
  • I pig out on grapefruit! Cut up 2 of em and slowly eat them. I dunno why but for some reason it cures my cravings for huge bowls of pasta or 6 slices of yummy bread with butter. Sweets are not that big a temptation for me but those processed carbs? I am going to stick with my grapefruit for now.
  • You are doing great. I have been working on this since Sept! and its a slow process. One week recently I did awesome on exercise and diet, but night before weigh in (weigh in is at a support group, no scale here in house) I had pizza w/my son. Gained 2 lbs! Oh well, no biggie. Knew the sodium was going to be a killer. Plus…
  • Just log your food daily. That makes me more accountable. Specially since I have a few friends who do look at my diary and do comment! Also I like getting food ideas from my successful friends. Seeing how they are doing it helps me make better choices. I just commit to logging daily and its working...... slowly... but then…
  • Oh, Lowes or Home Depot has this wicked cheap roll out stuff I put in my basement. You just cut it and lay it down. My son did the cutting so the edges are kinda crappy but its very cushiony. Did 2 rooms in basement for $200. (used the cheaper brand not armstrong but its pretty thick) Even got it on sale. Let me find it…
  • Meditation helps me to get balanced. Gratitude helps dispel negativity also. Sometimes I give my dog a massage. Helps me to get outside of myself. This journey we are on is one step at a time, one day at a time. Stay in today. Tomorrow will take care of itself.
  • You can do this. Just commit each day to logging your food. That's what started me. Friend got me to join to support him. I thought why not, it sounds easy and it is easy! I have learned a lot in the past 5 months and am making better choices and even started exercising! And I am older than you! I understand the pain of…
  • Thanks for all the time and effort you put into this! I totally agree with most of it. Only thing I am not doing is eating more frequently. I know that works, had a trainer once upon a time who had me do it, but! Its been a journey and I have been learning alot. I am now exercising and .... gasp, planning on running a 5k…
  • What do you mean by real food? Is he still limited on the type of food he can have? You have done really well on losing weight! I eat real food, not much meat cuz I don't really like meat. What has changed for me is I eat less cheese and I avoid bread and pasta. Cut way back on the gluten but pretty much I eat whatever…
  • Ugh, don't know how to post pix. I have an older dog who is my love, got him when I was fostering 10 years ago. He is therapy trained and wonderful for walking. Big boy at 80 lbs. Goal is this summer to get the little guy leash trained so I can walk them both together!
