  • yep - listen to him! he's right!
  • 21.54 - aged 36. Aged 28 I was over 30 mins and would have called theyou crazy if you'd told me I'd ever have been that fast. Once you've got the bug, you've got it - stick with it and you'll get better and better, and well done!
  • why don't you just not drink the coffee rather than going to extremes? Just wondering! It's an idea....
  • I'm 5'5" and weigh between 120 - 126 generally - and for me, I burn about 65 calories a mile, running between 7.00 pace and 8.30 pace. The pace doesn't seem to make any difference. It sucks. The Half marathon I did recently, while wearing my 310xt with hrm, said 820 calories. Average HR 165, max 180. Pace 7.24. I can tell…
  • I'd have been hopping mad if it had been on my race calendar - some of my friends were going to d it - and yes, I frequently run 13 miles with no water in current weather.... but I guess they couldn't risk it. What a mess!
  • We have two whippets, and we increased their distances VERY slowly - after all they are sprinters rather than long distance runners...... were sprinters...... Now they happily do ten miles with us, mostly completely off lead, they realise they are in for a long run and suddenly get sensible and run alongside. We run at…
  • I have three pairs of road shoes which I rotate (although not every day, which I should - but getting my othotics in and out of them is a hassle.) I buy several pairs in sales and stack them up. Only problem I find is sometimes I get a bit emotionally attached to one particular pair after good runs, which I know is silly!…
  • Born to Run Feet in the Clouds (I LOVE fell running) Just a little run around the World I found very touching... What I talk about when I talk about Running (or is it think?)
  • I think we all do! I struggled this morning, felt like death, yest was actually running much slower than I often do yet feel great. However, it was still miles int he bank. Make sure that you keep the interest like others have said, and remember that while you are out there, millions of others aren't! Also - bad days…
  • I cycle in on a Monday with five tops for the week, and all my lunches (usually soups) in my panniers. I live 3.1 miles away (good number for someone as OCD about distance as me! I then run the rest of the days there and back, until Friday pm when I take all my worn tops home on my bike (which stays locked up at wwork for…
  • Hill training will improve your running anyway - there is nothing wrong with running to a hill to warm up, then running (fast) up it for varying distances, jogging back down, turning round, and repeating. Its boring but works well - especially if you don't have too many hills to chose from where you live! I'm a fell runner…
  • Can I join in? I'm in for 100 this month, did 120 last month but school holidays means it'll be harder to get out for one of the weeks... a lot of my running is done on the way to work and then work - school!
  • good advice there! Its so frustrating if you have a target, but sometimes targets have to move for your long term health - I hate swimming but it is good to keep the fitness up. Listen to the physio and to your calf, annoying as it is, it's telling you off for a reason. Try to get better first. There will be other halfs to…
  • I'm a little obsessed and on a particular training plan at the moment so currently run on average about 8 times a week - so sometimes twice a day (to work, school run etc) but lots of them are only 30 / 40 mins and "recovery" runs - it really is a question of "listen to your body". Recovery runs are very different to hard…
  • Number one piece of advice - ENJOY! You're going to get a PB whatever happens! Don't go out too fast is vital advice, and its an easy trap to fall into - you get carried away with the excitement, you're feeling good, then you realise that actually it's a pretty long way! If you don't have a watch telling you your pace,…
  • Fleetzz brings up an option - I have been on continuous BC pills since having my son 9 years ago - I never liked that TOM, I choose not to have periods at all. I bring it up every time I go for my repeat perscription - I always ask if its unhealthy, or whether I should have a break, (I think its the mini pill that I'm on -…
  • Stick with it Marathongirl1 - it will be worth it in the end! Very interesting topic - I know that I was MUCH faster with a BMI of around 20 than now - there again, I was also training and eating better too! I do think it's easier not carting around extra weight and when I got my *rse back into gear my joints felt like…
  • I think the advice above is excellent. Slow and steady - and break it down. We have a lake near us which is exactly 3 miles round - I break the remaining distance in "how many lakes"! Also for me the first half is the worst - keep going, knowing that eventually you'll be on the home stretch! You'll feel amazing when you've…
  • Hi There I'm looking to make some friends so that I'm more accountable! I just eat too much and I'm back on MFP having let it lapse for ten months, the running dropped off as well for various reasons and I put on 20 pounds! Weighed myself on new years day and cried (I'd been putting of the inevitable!). I'm 35 and a mum to…
  • Rauceby Ripper 1st Feb North Lincs HM 4th May Keswick Trail Half 25th May Robin Hood Marathon end September Snowdonia Marathon 25th October some good hills and hopefully flatter speedier flatter ones!
  • should add - good luck to everyone with their goals, and I'm not sure how friends work really on here but if anyone wants to add me I'm good at encouraging others, just not listening to myself! I could do with additional motivation!
  • I want to have reached my target by 4th May (119lbs) - I'm doing a half marathon then and I want to race it rather than run round steady and armed with excuses. I can't get back to the speed I was running this time last year (sub 7.30 minute miles) whilst I'm carrying the weight that I am. I'm really angry at myself for…
  • It sounds to me that your shoes may not be big enough - your feet will swell during long runs - but I agree socks are also important and worth investing in, (maybe also a net bag to wash them in?!) but falling off toenails are also a hazard of running sometimes too!
  • I've got a cross counrty race on 11th November, short but very muddy, followed by another one on 1st December, then a 10k trail race 2nd December in Sherwood Forest (home of Robin Hood) and a half marathon 9th December (another Turkey trot). Then more xc, and races, working uyp to the South Downs Marathon, a trail…
