  • I'm in the same situation and I'm set at lightly active. I also don't have my fitbit linked for any caloric adjustments or eat my exercise calories, so if I'm not reallt lightly active every day, I should still have some sort of deficit.
  • Towel dry and dry shampoo works well enough for me.
  • Thanks @SideSteel . Lol all you had to say was "If your results say one thing and your logging says another, you're not as good at logging as you thought." It's cool. Lol The last week, I've been doing #2 religiously. Like it's my job. Looking up nutrition information from the source. Paying closer attention to my macros.…
  • Yes! The scale is incredibly friendly after a long, hot run. I wish those weigh ins counted! You may be right- I might have some extra water reserves for the summer months. And that's OK. thanks!
  • I am so glad for both of these questions because I can relate to both! The responses were helpful. First, I'm 37, 5'7", 179#. I've lost 57# since oct using mfp and lifting 2x/week with a trainer. Ive also started training for a half coming up in oct about 4-5 weeks ago. Weekly mileage is up to 11mpw, and will go as high as…
  • Good for you! And I totally agree with all of the above. Advice is always well thought out, educated, and you know it comes from a good place. Kudos to everyone here for everything that you do.
  • do you really think you're in a plateau or just slowing down? I only say that because I lost the first 40lbs in 4 months and then the next 15-20 over the last 4. When I weigh in, I feel like I'm seeing the same numbers over and over, but when I pull my progress for the last 30 days (no matter which 30 day time period I…
  • .5c oats, .5c vanilla Greek yogurt, .5c coconut almond milk and whatever topping. That's my basic recipe. I have cinnamon blueberry in the fridge for tomorrow, but pb/banana is a big favorite. Or strawberries with a T of mini chocolate chips is good too. I prefer fruit with breakfast, but there are some more savory recipes…
  • I don't know if it's specifically from strength training or from dropping 55lbs, but I can really see changes in my composition now - so 7 months. I've lost weight before, but didn't really like my shape or how I looked under my clothes (one of the excuses I used to justify gaining it all back). This time I've lifted since…
  • If I just can't, then I just don't. But before I don't, I take a hard look at why I can't. If it's because I'm burned out, legitimately tired, not fueled properly, etc, then I don't beat myself up over taking a day off. Rest is good. If I'm just being lazy, well, that's when I need to put my big girl panties on and get it…
  • Good convo regarding optimal vs sustainable. Makes total sense. Most of the rest of it went over my head, but I did catch this much!
  • Interesting perspective. Definitely something worth considering. Thanks! You're always so darn helpful.
  • I do this. When I feel like I'm getting nowhere, I pull up my stats from a month ago and can see that my losses have slowed, but not stopped. It IS a little tough to see -4lbs a month when I was averaging 2-3 a week 6 months ago, but I chalk it up to getting closer to my goal weight. Goal weight? I'm struggling with the…
  • I like to add pb2, a T of mini chocolate chips and either a banana or strawberries. Tasty.
  • I've been making a frosty milkshake with a cup of nonfat fairlife milk and 2 scoops of chocolate EAS. Pop that baby in the freezer for an hour or so and reshake. Like an afternoon treat.
  • I agree with all of the above. Over the last 7 months, I've lost 53# using MFP and making an investment in a great personal trainer 2x/week. I run on my off days if I'm feeling spunky, but the majority of my exercise amounts to about 2 hours a week in the gym with the free weights. I'm stronger than I've ever been and as a…
  • This. I earned every one of them! Mine are smooth though, no rough edges so no problem.
  • You want to know how you improve? You keep going. You show up, put in the work and you get better at it. I'm type A as well. And 7 months ago I was fat, miserable and ready (but terrified) to make a change. I ended up meeting someone at my company health fair and getting sucked into one of the "free fitness evaluations" at…
  • but isn't that true of most lifts? I just don't see why this one would be singled out as hard to master. To each his/her own, I guess. I can't do most oly lifts with any grace or coordination at all. Those have been ridiculously hard for me to learn. My squat is just ok (constantly making form adjustments), but weak. Bench…
  • Love love love deadlifting! I've been told it'd one of the hardest lifts to master, but I've found that it was the easiest one for me to learn and progress with. Now if only my back squat game was as smooth...
  • I also don't want to work out in a gym with a bunch of body builders either, but it has absolutely nothing to do with them and everything to do with my own confidence and intimidation. I'd rather work out with the geriatric crowd of creepers on bikes at the Y than a bunch of men that look like they know what they're doing…
  • That's where I'm at as well. Been hanging out around 185 for over a month strength training 2x/week and in that month, I've just become more compact - my pants size has gone down again and my arms are looking more defined. I'd like to lose another 15-20lbs, but I am trying to remind myself that it's just a number. I feel…
  • I work out during my lunch hour a couple days a week. I have managed to not come back to the office funky for this long, so I must be handling my business! What is your solution for laundry? I've got a couple sets of work out clothes and pack a clean set for each day - and definitely new underwear for the afternoon. What…
  • Pics or no pics, this is my fav thread of all time.
  • Hmm. During the first 40# of weight loss, absolutely. It was much more. Are you saying that the weight loss is inversely related to lifting gains? IE, lose 20# on the scale, gain 20# on the bar? At some point I'd think the lines would cross and then level off...but maybe I'm wrong. We've been doing something different…
  • At 80yo, I doubt I'll give a rats tail what people think too...especially if I could out lift them. But until I get that elite status, the struggle is real. (I do work with a fab trainer at a tiny studio a few times a week, so I'm still getting it done!)
  • Best tomato soup recipe ever. 3 tomatoes 3 red peppers Olive oil Italian seasonings Salt/pepper 2T apple cider vinegar 1/4c chicken broth Roast sliced veggies drizzled with oil & seasonings at 350° for 40mins. Blend veggies and remaining ingredients in processor or blender until desired consistency. So good, so easy. Makes…
  • Thanks, I guess I didn't think of it that way. Makes sense though!
  • Can I submit one more dumb question for March or have it met my quota? ;) What is the difference between gaining strength and gaining muscle?
  • I will echo the rest of the ladies here and say that you already look amazing as is, 38 is NOT old, and I'm also in it for the *kitten* pics. ;)
