  • I don't mind helping my friends, gratis. However, my friends' friends just get a discount ...
  • I had another one, yesterday. I went flying (Cessna 180) yesterday, first time I have flown a plane in over 25 years and the lap belt barely fit over my fat thighs! Oh hell no, I'm not going to let my fat get in the way of so much fun!
  • Fish Poultry Eggs (or just whites) Pork Soft cheeses Cottage cheese Other things that help: Substitute quinoa for rice Wild rice if you must have rice Vegetable-based pasta Tempeh Substitute sprouted grain bread for all others Chick-pea flour
  • I snack on raw veggies all day long such as radish (any), turnip slices, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, carrots, cucumbers and peppers.
  • Visit France. You'll come back eating eggs & butter, drinking wine and walking almost everywhere you go. You will also understand what a real portion size should look like.
  • I just remind myself that time in the gym is 100% my time, dedicated to me and to not feel guilty about that.
  • 1. Sell the scale, buy a tape measure. 2. Take a front, profile and back photo of you in a bathing suit once/month. 3. Skip the aerobics and just lift weights for 2-4 weeks. Measure results and re-evaluate.
  • I have a desk job, too. Nevertheless, I take walk at lunch, no matter what - I've permanently blocked that time as "No Meetings - Out Of Office" on my calendar. I make no exceptions. I bring my own lunch and part of that is a bag of sliced, raw veggies that I munch on throughout the day including during my walk. Also, see…
  • As Einstein said, "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." You don't need a kick in the pants. You need to try something different. Really different.
  • What you are drinking is barely coffee, and mostly just coffee flavor, so yes, stop drinking it and just stick with stuff made from freshly ground beans. Add your own condiments so you know exactly what is going in your body. Plus, ditch the sweeteners. It's a lifestyle choice your internal organs will be thankful for in…

  • When I went to New Orleans earlier this year, I ate like I did in the army, pretty much everything tasty in sight and constantly. I walked everywhere with the exception of the odd streetcar ride. I lost weight, because I walked everywhere. Being on vacation means you don't have to commute, you are not at your desk ..…
  • The answer is yes. Lift for strength and skip the aerobics and don't worry, you won't bulk up, you are a woman, Only us XY's get bulky, you'll get sleek.
  • We just go at 7am as soon as the doors open on weekends.
  • Start off a bit easier ... Today: Take 3 pictures (front, profile, rear), measure thighs, hips, waist, chest & biceps) Week 1: Cut the sugar/sweeteners, go for a 30 min walk every second day, 10 glasses of water a day, 1 beer a week (a man's gotta live!) Week 2: Cut all the "white/processed" foods - detox Week 3: Go for a…
  • I'm in the same situation. Here's what's finally working for me ... I skip cardio entirely, except when I'm doing real activities like hiking or my daily clear-the-mind walk. I do a weight circuit for 30 min (quickly) at around 80-90% of my maximum strength every other day. I follow that up with a 20 min abs/back circuit…
  • The first several Laurell K. Hamilton books are good. The quality goes downhill fast, though.
  • 2500 cals/day? Really? Sounds like about 500 too much if he wants to lose fat in any meaningful amount of time. Yeah, I know working in a restaurant isn't "sedentary" but it isn't physically challenging all day long, either. There may be bursts ... To eat: fish without batter, chicken/turkey burgers without mayo and the…
  • My meeting with the trainer was very helpful. She showed me how to use all the equipment properly and watched me run through the 30 min circuit once, correcting me throughout.
  • Just skip the scale completely until (based on your stat) you shed about 12" off the waistline. Right now, that's the only meaningful measurement. Seriously, I know what I'm talking about from personal experience. The only measure of progress for me until I reach my target waist size is how consistently I have to shop for…
  • A woman I worked with last year requested an ergo sit/stand desk for work and stayed on her feet at least 6 hours a day. She gives some credit to standing all day for losing 35lbs last year.
  • Weight does not equal JUST fat!
  • It's a better alternative than sitting!

  • Nicely done! My annual is in December and I'm hoping to be off at least one of my meds after that!

  • My belt is no longer snug enough to hold up my too-large pants.
  • Sports? I have no time to watch sports let alone read about it! I participate in 2, but that's it. On average, I read 3-4 dozen books a year, including technical/professional development publications. All of my male friends read a lot, then again, we all get paid to use our brains.
  • Real losers use MFP ... I've lost almost 50.
  • Hmm .. hubby is just one letter away from hobby, and an expensive one at that. Still, hubby and hobby are a step up from walking wallet.
  • Ok, the very first thing to do is eliminate all artificial sweeteners. Diet drinks are just completely evil. They are sweeter than sugar or corn syrup! It literally takes a handful of days to develop a "yuck" factor with your tastebuds to artificial sweeteners. Key word here is ELIMINATE. Artificial sweeteners totally mess…
