  • I would go to a running store and get fitted for the shoes that are right for you. I have pretty flat feet also but I overpronate so I wear a stability shoe. If money is an issue you can always tell them you need to think about it and see if you can find the shoes they put you in online. Just a word of caution though. Most…
  • I like Honey Stingers. They are easy to chew and kind of melt in your mouth.
  • I like the honey stinger products. They don't seem to be as sweet as some of the others. I have heard several people say they use plain old gummie bears, I am going to try this for my next race since it would be much cheaper than buying the other products. When I first started looking for something to fuel my runs, I…
  • Congrats on the race. If this was your first race at that distance you should be very proud of finshing and don't worry about pace. Humidity can trip up even the best runners.
  • For me it's all about the beat. I have music from the 50's to right now. I bought a ipod shuffle so it's always a surprise what's going to come on next. Here's a couple of my favorites. Saturday Night- Bay City Rollers Rock and Roll- Sons of Bill Dance With Me- Ra Ra Riot Mambo #5- Lou Bega Trouble- Pink
  • I use and Ifitness belt. They have several different kinds. I have the one with the single zip pocket. Perfect for gels, you can also get one with a bib holder if you don't want to pin it on you. You can get them on Amazon and other racing websites.
  • I take Magnesium for the night sweats seems to be helping. I currently take about 400 mg but am slowly upping it. It also has been helping with my headaches which I have dealt with for years. So bonus..... the PMS I cannot help with since I still am struggling with that also. I never had it when I was on the pill but now,…
  • I agree. I have off and on ITBS issues. For some crazy reason it doesn't bother me while running but I have spent a lot of time changing my gait and stride to help deal with the issue. Have you tried a foam roller. My ITBS seems to flair when I am not using my roller consistently. Good luck-
  • I didn't run my first half until I was 44, then proceeded to do 3 more in less than a year. Congrats and keep up the good work !!
  • Anything and everything with caramel in it.
  • Nothing like a down and dirty bet to make things a little exciting around here. Gotta go with my girl Kathleen though. She's become a bada$$ runner.
  • Planks are great for toning all around the belly.
  • I am not training for anything right now, so I have plenty of time to make the transition. Anyone have suggestions on a shoe, I don't think I want to go completely minimalist. I have a skinny foot so my heal sliding out of my shoes is a common problem, that's why I was wearing Nike they have a slim shoe with a wide toe box.
  • I have been battling ITB issues off and on for the last 2 years. Nike redesigned the shoe I have been wearing and my ITB issues came back. Did you make the transition slowly or just put them on and start running.
  • Anyone ?????
  • I wear the Nike Zoom structure and have been very happy with them. They redesigned them for this years model and I had to go down a 1/2 size, other than that they seem to be working well for me. They used to be called Triax Structure.
  • I always can feel it in my knees when it's time to replace my shoes. I am always on the lookout for last years model or someone having a sale so I can buy them a little cheaper. As much as I like to support my local running store it can get expensive, so I usually buy my first pair of the year there then scour the internet…
  • Love my foam roller. I got mine from Amazon and it has a piece of PVC pipe in the middle surrounded by foam, it holds it shape really well. I also use a tennis ball to get the knots out from under my scapula, works great.
  • Luna bars. They have a lot to choose from and taste great. I carry a couple with me every day.
  • Good luck with your race. Listen to your body and walk if you need to, finishing is the most important part and no one will know how you crossed that line, just that you crossed it.

  • Taste and texture are very individual things. I would try a couple different kinds and see what you like best, on that note this is what I have found out for myself. 1. I don't like the gels, something about the texture. 2. Jelly Belly sport Beans I found some of the flavors to sweet, but they are the size of a jelly bean…
  • Love, love, love my foam roller. I have noticed a huge difference since I started using it on a regular basis. I have never used the tape..
  • I am doing the electric run. They are doing it at night so it should be pretty fun..
  • Nice job !!! Welcome to the running world...
  • WTG !!!! You look fabulous...
  • I over pronate. I have been wearing the same brand/style of shoes for years. I go through a couple pairs each year so I turned to the internet to try and find them cheaper. I went to buy my last pair and could not find my shoes anywhere, if someone had them they were on clearance. I thought the company discontinued the…
  • I agree, if you have a running store nearby go there and have them fit you. Find out what type of shoe you need and what brand fits best. If you can swing it, buy your first pair of shoes right then and there. If the price is too high, tell them you need to think about it and then you can go home and search the web for the…
